Hi there, I know it's a busy season, but I took Ben to the vet today, as he has been limping and showing signs of lethargy.
It turns out that he has panosteoitis, or in simple terms, growing pains, and has been prescribed pain killers to help him.
Apparently, this will travel to various limbs but he will outgrow this.
Is anyone else familiar with this, and if so, is there anything that I should be aware of other than resting him, managing his pain etc.
Thanks and Happy Holidays to all.

*snort* i tell my daughter to get over it on a regular basis. she seems to think "growing pains" is a good reason to not take a shower... eat dinner or clean her room!! i highly doubt your pooch is using that as an excuse though.
wish i had some advice!! good luck with it!!

Dazy had growing pains at about 7 months old - all we were told to do is give her asprin, keep her quiet, keep her warm and comfy like provide a bed or pillow. It was only every now and then, they didn't diagnose her and I didn't even bring her in, I called the vet and that's what they chalked it up to. Seemed to work.

I've heard that all you can do is rest them and give pain meds when required and they usually outgrow it by the time they are 2 yr. old. Good luck. :goodvibes:

Now don't laugh at me, but when our boy had pano, I didn't want to give him pills at all, so we used a heat blaket on low and massaged his joint areas. Now maybe Stump's pain wasn't as high as your Ben, but that's what worked for us.....only now, the big Stump really (and I mean really) like massages!

Our bullmastiff was diagnosed with Pano at about 6-7 months as well. After radiographs ruled out any other issues, he was also managed with pain meds as well. He only limped intermittently on one leg, and now at 1 1/2 yrs. has been completely sound for quite awhile now. Rest assured, your pup will grow out of this as well. BTW, did you get the xrays done to rule out anything more serious? I would hope your vet wouldn't have reached a diagnosis of Pano without them. Good luck! :dog:
