I have been thinking about getting a second dog. Sydney is a pretty high energy mutt, and I would try to find another about her speed, and size (50 lbs). We live in a small house, no fenced in yard, but with morning walks and evening trips to the off leash park, or hiking trails. . With fish, there is a 1 inch of fish per gallon rule of thumb. Is there any such guide line with dogs? (obviously different breeds have different requirements)

If the dog is getting the exercise that he needs , size of the house doesn't matter :thumbs up so you could get 1 X 50 lbs dog , or 2 X 25 lbs :p

As long as you are willing to exercize your dogs properly ~ meeting their INDIVIDUAL needs ~ then the square footage of your home means little.
