Hazel Run faces--for Breeze

Here you go, breeze! A guide to the Hazel Run Pack...except for Ms Muddy Mossy Messy Macie, anyway. (She was off playing in the dirt, pointing, chasing, and escorting Sinister Squirrels off the property. :dog:)

First, The Princess-Queen Cass in all her regal glory, enjoying a little mid-Autumn sunshine in the backyard...

30738

...and if she partakes of a short Royal Nap, the rest of the Pack lets her...unless they accidently stampede in her direction during a play session. :o Then it's every Royal Girl for herself!

30739

The Princess-Queen is a tricolor--three colors, white, black and russet. But she is also very roan--very darkly colored for a setter.

Esquire Brier (aka the Deputy) and Lady (in Waiting) Ridge are also tricolors, but less darkly colored. The Lady's face is very similar to the Princess-Queen's in coloration, but her body is much lighter. And the Deputy is almost what is referred to as a snow belton--mostly white with just a few dollops of toppings :D

The Esquire is on the left--notice all the 'white space', and the Lady is on the right.

30740

Lady (in Waiting) Ridge is a little sweet on the Esquire. :lovestruck:

30741

hazelrunpack
November 18th, 2007, 09:43 AM
Princess Lil Belle is also a tricolor--but now we have another 'flavor'. The first three were beltons--usually (but not always) mostly white with small freckles and no large patches of color. The Princess is not a belton--she has a patch around her right eye. You might be able to see that the lashes on that eye are black. If a setter does not have a patched eye, the lashes are always white...

30742

Now, you might be asking, as dark as the Princess-Queen is, what makes us think that she is not patched? The answer lies in the puppy coat. English Setter puppies are born all white, unless they have black (or as ES people refer to it: blue) patches, which appear as dark...well...patches. :o A few days after birth, any orange (russet) patches appear. The Princess-Queen was white in the few days after birth. So she is a belton, albeit a roan one.

hazelrunpack
November 18th, 2007, 09:49 AM
Now for half of our orange contingent (Ms Muddy Mossy Messy Macie is the other half, but she was, as explained above....elsewhere...during the photo shoot. :dog:).

This is King Ember. He is an orange patch--mostly white with russet freckles with a russet patch around his right eye.

30743

Again, the lashes on the patched eye match the patch--they're russet. The lashes on his unpatched eye are white.

30744

It's easy to remember Princess Lil Belle and King Ember are sister/brother since they are the only two Pack members with eye patches.

Ah, the Sheriff! :lovestruck: My Hero!! :cloud9:

Sheriff Cole is a blue belton--a perfect blue belton, I might add. :D He is mostly white with black (blue in ES parlance) freckles and no patches. Again, though it might be hard to believe, at birth he was totally white (and much smaller of course!) but destined for greatness! :dog:

30745

hazelrunpack
November 18th, 2007, 09:56 AM
And last but not least, here's our own Amazing Grace!

30746

The Sheriff was very happy to see her when she arrived since she, too, is a blue belton. Until Grace's arrival he was the only blue in the Pack and was feeling under-represented. Now they proudly represent the Blue Contingent together.

How do you tell her from the Sheriff? Well, at 33 lbs, she's only about half his size. So if you're looking for Grace, look lower...she's the little one! :dog: And she's simply amazing....

Actually, though, it's not all me--hazel has made at least 4500 of those posts and madame hazel accounts for another 2000. ("two dogs facing off" doesn't count--she hardly ever says anything :D)

So actually, shy demure me has only made about 500 posts in just over a year. I really don't talk much...

awwww!! I can't get over their faces... so adorable!

Have you ever thought about getting professional pictures made?

Those dogs are gorgeous!! And the photography studio may end up using it as part of their framed portfolio on the wall!

*Sigh* I keep trying to learn, but then I get all caught up in the pictures and end up just staring and staring and the gorgeous fuzzy creatures and forgetting what I was learning... that one's blue and that one's belton and oh-my-goodness look at that face, I just want to snuggle right up into those beautiful, regal faces and what was I reading again? LOL.

They really are very regal looking. Great photos, as always! I love looking at them, even if I'll probably never really be able to remember all the differences:cloud9:.

Can you imagine the 8 of them rampaging through a professional studio!

 I can! :D

:o he he No, I think some possibilities are better left unexplored! Much cheaper than paying for the damages! :D

But thanks for the compliments! The Pack appreciates all the good words!

In the end, y'know, it doesn't matter. Dawg knows that when I try to call a specific dog, the right name is never less than the 5th or 6th that rolls off my tongue. When they hear me start with the litany, they just all come! So, when all is said and done, names aren't really all that important after all! :thumbs up

Remember that Lil Belle and Ember are sister/brother--they both have eye patches. That'll help you tell them from everyone else--everyone else is belton (no patches) :thumbs up

So those two are easy! :D

No... not inside a studio! lol Those dogs are meant to be shown outdoors in my opinion. Indoor lighting wouldn't do those colors justice.

Find a good photographer with a medium format camera and photograph them in a nice scenic spot.

That's what I meant anyway. :D

The hardest two to tell apart are (:pawprint:s down) Cass and Ridge. I swear, when Ridge first walked through the door and saw Cass she thought, "MAMA!" cuz they look so much alike:

Here they are at the far left--Cass above Ridge....

They actually have photographers that would do that? :lightbulb: Hmmmm.... Still have to figure out how we'd control 8 of them loose in the arena, so to speak, but it's worth a little thought, anyway.

I've been trying to get a picture of all 8 at once...I've only managed it once and Cole had a bonnet on at the time, so it isn't a very flattering shot, but occasionally, luck is sort of on my side:

30753

I'm hoping to get them all on a mass sit/stay one day and have a photo op! :D In your dreams, hazel!
