Hi! I have a 12 yr. old male border terrier who has recently started pacing and acting very restless after we go to bed and sometimes in the morning after my husband goes to work. Does anyone have any idea what's going on with him and if pheromones might help? Thank you!

I don't consider this a weird question.
This could be a couple of things. He needs to be given a complete exam by the vet to eliminate medical problems (dogs will pace and act restless when they are in pain for one thing). It could also be a sign of cognitive dysfunction which can happen to older dogs. In either case, he really needs to see a vet.
I hope you can get to the bottom of this!

Thanks for your reply! He's been to the vet this past spring and had blood work done because he had vomited 12 times in 2 days and didn't get as excited to eat even after he felt better. The test results revealed nothing. He's now on Nutro Small Bites Senior and is not hesitating to eat like he was before, although he doesn't have the same enthuism for his meals like he used to. When he gets really restless we put him to bed in his crate, which seems to help, but he hasn't slept in there for years. I think your suggestion to call the vet is a good idea, but if anyone else has any other ideas, I'd be glad to hear them. Thanks again!

Getting him to the vet is your best bet. Older dogs need check ups every 6 months. Good luck with him :fingerscr

Thank you! I really appreciate hearing from you! We hope the vet will have some answers for us.
