Ok so I work for the civil service dealing with assisted prison visits and sponsored immigration... therefore I would expect to be treated fairly by them (well it is the goverment :rolleyes:) - well this is not the case.

I was on a contract to work for a year which is just about up ( in a fortnight) anyway there has been a big dispute over pay recently and we have been on strike twice...anyhow i got my wage slip today expecting my 4% rise paid back until july last year and a 100 bonus. but no i got nothing!! I was informed by my line manager who had previously told me not to worry i would definately be included...'you are casual staff you are not included' do you reckon i could take some kind of action as it was never mentioned in any of the discussions over pay or in any of the literature we were given?

Very annoyed

I'm not really familar with the contract worker system in Canada (?) However working for the Federal Govt. here in the states and having a number of contract workers hired on I can tell you if it's not written - it doesn't exist.
Our contract workers don't get any benefits and we make no promises.
I would say you don't have any recourse if all you were given are promises.

Woody, this person is in the UK. We get paid in dollars here in Canada.;)

K&T, the same thing happened to me when I was on contract for Merrill Lynch. When everyone got a rather large bonus and I did not, I kicked up quite a stink.

I was told that "part-time" staff do not get bonuses. I informed them I was was not "part-time", but FULL TIME temporary. SO, they then agreed to give me a bonus, but "not as much as the full time people". I didn't accept that either and the end result was that I got my bonus - all of it!

I don't know about the UK, but here in Canada even temp or part time employees are entitled to some benefits, like paid statutory holidays, severance pay, etc after you have worked a certain number of hours.

I'm sorry you're being shafted.:(

There's a group that did a little 'thingy' at Queens Park (of all places) today.
To have residents sign a petition to get rid of Victoria day and replace it with Citizen day!

I wonder how many people have no blooming idea of what Victoria day even is!

Can open..worms everywhere....same crap happens here in the US.

My "previous" employer, the bitch, required me to work x amount of hours overtime in exchange for medication and health care for Ciara's "Addisons", which Ciara never had...For over four years I worked every weekend, holiday and after hours..sometimes and most weeks 80 hours...my overtime pay was deferred to my hospital account...for meds, services etc. She, Dr. Holly Samko, never paid any over time, but would take it out in trade. I had no life out side of the animal hospital, Ciara was it..I was kept medically dependent to my employer because at that time she could not find anyone else..and I believed everything she said...I questioned at times Ciara's condition ..all I got was grief. I wanted a second opinion but a threat of losing my job was obvious.
I am off again on a tangent again, I apoligize.
I did make a claim afterwards and Dr. Samko did not pay into the withholding tax services for over 18 months...everything she collected from paychecks for required taxes was not payed..for all employees...I had all my paycheck stubs from day one..she was fined $25,000. for the offense..I could have really got her in the groin for other offenses but I had to move on, I was offered legal counsel, for free, but I chose to not see her face ever again..even in a court room which I am a sure win..damage is done.

I was robbed of very much money, when I left my account was over $2000. credit. It has been wiped cleaned or so I was told..

No bonus for me!!! I have been informed i am not entitled to it hmmmm so i wonder why the union all wanted me to strike and lose 4 days pay aswell!!

Leave this job next week after my contractruns out - will definately be getting something permanten where i dont run into a situation like this!!
