New grain free pet food

Found this new product. Supposedly it is made by Diamond Foods. Doesn't look bad to me at first glance although I'm not sure why some of the proteins would be "smoked"? It is a lower protein percentage (25 - 32%) depending on the formula which some people may prefer over the higher percentages.

It's not bad, but I don't really like the tomato pomace (stool hardener) and the egg product part. That means they don't necessarily use whole eggs.

I'm not too sure what to make of the peas. I'll have to check out if that's good or bad for dogs.

Sweet potatoes and potatoes are fairly starchy (sugar), and since the food contains both, rather high on the ingredient list, I'd guess there was a fair bit of starch in that food.

It does contain a lot of meat though. The roasted meat in there is practically useless since cooking destroys most nutrients.

After adding the various percentages they give, the carb content of that food would be around 30-35 %, so it's fairly high.

All in all, it's not so bad, but definitely not the best food around.

Hope that helped.

I like all of the ingredients and I think the protein/fat levels (32% and 18%) in the High Prairie and Wetlands formulas are great. If the food becomes available in my area I'll definitely consider adding the High Priairie to my rotation of TWO Ocean Blue and Wild and Natural. My only gripe about this Taste of the Wild food is the hideous (IMO) packaging. The bags look like they should be a cover for an old book like "Call of the Wild". What an eyesore.
