Tommysmom September 20th, 2007, 05:15 PM Tommy absolutely adores chewing on cow hooves... it's practically the only thing he'll chew on for ages. But... ewwwwwwwwww! I can't handle the smell anymore:yuck:. Especially since he'll chew on it for a while and then come kiss you to say thanks:laughing:. It smells like the baaaad side of a barnyard manure pile, maybe it's just the ones I've been buying but omg, just ewwww.
So, I got Tommy some 'Steer Sticks'. Ingredients - 'bull pizzel'. Hubby wasn't impressed with that:laughing:. I gave it to Tommy and I think he likes it, LOL.

Lukka'sma September 20th, 2007, 05:43 PM :laughing::laughing: I bought one of these for Lukka long time ago. OMG the smell after she had chewed it for an hour or so........can't even describe it. I am not one who is squeemish with odours as I am up to my neck in colostomy bags and incontinent patients at work but this was something beyond my experience:eek:
Lukka'sma September 20th, 2007, 05:45 PM Oh yea I meant to add that I would kiss Tommy even after he chewed on the wobbly bits of a steer:D
mummummum September 20th, 2007, 09:32 PM Tmi ! Tmi !!
Schwinn September 20th, 2007, 09:46 PM I can't stand those things! Mrs. Schwinn keeps buying either those, or a giant cow's thigh with meat on it. I came home tonight, and our house reeked! I've been trying to get Daisy to chew on some pot-pourri...
clm September 20th, 2007, 09:58 PM I buy Baxter and Bentley the bull pizzles. Saves the furniture now that hubby is working too and they're home alone during the day. My last dog loved them too. I've never tried the hooves.

Dracko September 20th, 2007, 10:39 PM I bought Dracko ONE...and only ONE cow hoof a long time ago. Never again. I don't think it stayed in the house for 10 mins and I had to make him take it outside. They smell absolutely vulgar!
Ford Girl September 21st, 2007, 10:11 AM I buy the hooves all the time, they are really cheap here, under $4, but she can only eat them outside on the front deck!!! They are pretty gross eh? She likes to greet the neighbours with it!!!! I buy the beef chews too, now the medium ones only last 20 minutes, she sure has become a power chewer!! They use to last her 2 sittings. Nothing lasts very long anymore.
Once I bought this bone that was suppose to replace raw hide, it lasted minutes. Never again, she ate the whole thing, replace raw hide, I dont think so!!! I know raw hides are not safe, but no wonder people like them for power chewers!!!

I've personally not had a problem with rawhides *shrug*
By the time my dogs swallow any of it it's complete mush so I don't really worry about it. They don't smell nasty either so that's a plus, lol.

I've heard both good and bad, but more bad, so when I see other options I choose other options, altho bones can be debated all day long...smoked, raw, raw hide....it's one of those..if it works for you stick with it....
