Dracko

As you can see in my signature (haven't updated it yet) I had 3 cats and a GSD. I attempted to adopt a dog the other that needed to be rehomed (as some of you probably read about on here) but the owners choose a home that had children for the dog to play with. Well, maybe that was for a reason.
Yesterday I got brave and decided to go to the SPCA to look for a dog. The reason I went was to look at the dogs. I wanted to find an older/adult dog that needed a home. Going to the SPCA wasn't ideal as I needed to know some history on the dog (i.e. is it used to cats) but I decided I'd go. I typically NEVER, NEVER, NEVER go to shelters as it is just to sad.
When I went in I had to go through the cat cages first. Well, I didn't make it too far. They've had an explosion of kittens of late (as is probably typical everywhere at this time of the year). Many of them were going to be put down simply because of space. I saw 2 of the most adorable kittens. They look so much like my oldest cat, Mochie. I adopted Mochie about 11 years ago from the SPCA in Calgary. I always said if I found cats that were like her I'd adopt them.
Mochie is the most loving, tolerant cat. I love that I can squish her, kiss her head, maul her, etc. and she doesn't pull away. :cloud9: She is a ragdoll cross (or so they said when I adopted her) and this is supposed to be typical of her breed. Yesterday I asked what these cat's breed was (their best guess, of course) and they said Ragdoll. I knew they weren't pure ragdoll cuz no one would surrender them for free. But I was in love immediate. So when I told the woman I wanted to adopt she said, "Which one." Right. As if I could choose or split them up. When I adopted Mochie she'd had a sister who was adopted the day before. I'd have adopted both if I could have. When I adopted Ginkgo from the PetSmart SPCA cages a year ago she'd had a sister that went earlier that day. I have wanted to adopt siblings for a while.
They are four months old...both girls. They have white bodies with grey/black feet, face, tails. Their darker areas are motted with various shades/colors and each has a small area of rust color. One has it on her face the other on her tail. They are soft like bunny rabbits. :lovestruck: I feel badly that I didn't take home an older animal as planned (well, or a dog since that was my intention) but this is the way things worked out. It always amazes me how much it costs to adopt these animals. It was just over $300 for these 2. Yet, they'd rather put them down then find a home for cheaper. I like the fact that by charging hopefully they get people who are committed but yet there are tons of people w/o much money who would make terrific furry parents.
I only, thus far, have pictures of the kittens taken on my nephew's cell phone. I'll post them and hopefully get proper ones taken on the camera soon. (Just having recharging battery problems for the camera.)

They are in their safe room right now though they have met 2 of my 3 cats as my cats are very, very passive and I knew there would be no fighting. The kittens spit a little at them and pretty quickly my youngest, Smitty was licking them. They've seen Dracko my dog through the gate and it's so cute to see them make the fur on their backs stand up and hiss. They keep coming too check him out, though, and I'm sure it won't be long before they are interacting with him like my other 3. He's always had cats around him and doesn't think of them as prey. It took Ginkgo about 4 or 5 days to get brave enough to pass the gate to see Dracko and I'm hoping these 2 do so on their own and when they feel comfortable doing so.
Now I have to come up with two names. I am thinking of combination names like the whole "Thelma & Louise" thing. Though I don't want that one. I work in the natural health industry (hence, Ginkgo's name) and am trying to think of something along that line for them as well.
Can't wait to give you guys updates on these 2. One of them is more sedate and loving...the other inquisitive and going to be trouble, I think. :goodvibes:
