This is a twofold post.
First, Brag: :D
Because of all Jaida's medical issues during her puppyhood (6 weeks of battling pneumonia, another week of unknown illness/fever, 5 weeks of surgery/recovery)...we haven't had as many opportunities as we would have liked to get her out into the world for socialization. I've often worried about her being in new social situations.
Well, this weekend we took her with us to a friend's housewarming party...lots of people, strange house, 3 other dogs, children, food, games, noise, commotion.... I honestly expected her to be clingy and whingy the whole time. Boy, was I wrong.
I took her for a little walk around the property, introduced her to my friend's dog (who bit her ), and showed her where her water pail was. Then she went off and did her own thing.
She was fascinated with the children ( I think she liked having someone at eye level) and hung out with them for most of the day. She was so polite and gentle with them...running around after their frisbees and badminton birdies, but never taking the toys or being bossy, allowing them to lean on her or play with her tail. She introduced herself to all the adults and often plunked herself down in the middle of a group of them for pats. She stayed clear of my friend's bossy dog, and played with the nice ones. She didn't bark, cry, or fuss. She just played and played all day and had a blast.
She made us SOOOOO proud! And it was too funny, people kept asking us "why is she limping?"...they didn't even realize she was missing a leg until we pointed it out to them! The kids were really interested in it, and once we told them her story, they all made a point of telling all the adults about Jaida and how "SHE ONLY HAS ONE LEG!!!" It was a great day. Our little girl has turned out ok!
Now, RANT:yell:
One of the dogs at the party was a 4 year old, intact, male springer spaniel (my friend's brother's dog). Beau, athough cute to look at, was THE MOST OBNOXIOUS FRIGGIN DOG ON THE FACE OF THE PLANET!!! Jaida went over to say hello, and at first they were playing, but then Beau got other ideas in his head, and honest to god he spent the rest of the night trying to hump Jaida. It was funny for about 5 minutes, and then I got p.o.ed I kept pushing him away and calling Jaida over to me, but he would NOT leave her alone. I finally asked the owner to tie him up (he was making all these smart-#$% comments about his manly-man dog), which he did for a while, but every time Jaida started to relax, I'd find Beau loose AGAIN, and humping Jaida AGAIN. I just kept grabbing the dog and hauling his butt back to his tie-out. The owner was obviously not paying any attention, and obviously didn't care. We left early because of it, it was ridiculous. I asked him why he doesn't neuter the dog and I got "well, I want to breed him he's got great lines". I ask what kennel club he's registered with...answer "oh, he's not registered" :yell:  :frustrated: What a dolt. I was so ticked at that point there was no way for me to have an intelligent conversation with the guy.
