i am so pissed off!! down under hasnt pooped in 36 hrs and i was freaking
even though she had an enema monday and pooped a lot afterward

so I call up my vet friend instead of the vet the rescue group uses

back in the carrier, d u. she didnt put up much of a fight this time

So Dr lisa ( Iv'e known her since high school) says hmm she has a ton of ear mites and by the way she is missing a few teeth.

2 other vets after i told them that she shakes her head didnt see the mites and after i told them she has trouble chewing did not think to mention to me that she was missing teeth on one side not only that the other vet has less than clean facilities ,
wtf? 2 vets missed that ? well dr Lisa is now my vet forever and ever.

Thats terrible new Jim. How could two vets miss that!!!!!
I would be pissed too if I were you. Poor DU.
I am glad that you have another vet you can take her to and it seems you trust this one:highfive: Keep us posted on the poop progress.

Did the rescue also not notice she was missing teeth?? What about the handler from the cattery you mentioned before, she didn't know??

How does she react when Dr Lisa handles her is she less scared than @ the other 2 vets?

How's she doing now? you have solution for the mites I assume - is she okay with you givin that to her? or did your vet friend do a one application kills all?

Glad you found a good one :thumbs up

I saw her pics btw - purty girl:cloud9:

You are making good process. As for the first two vets, thought it was routine to check cats for earmites, especially if they are rescues?

August 10th, 2007, 07:10 AM
Jim,sorry about all this, earmites is something I thought ALL vets checked for:confused:
I am sure DU will feel better with clean ears..
We are all"Jewish mothers"with our little fourlegged darlings:laughing:
Jewish mother=overly concerned and worried:cat:

First of all I cannot belive my emotional well benig ids tied into watcning a litterbox for poop

which she did sometime in the early morning praise allthe saints

As for the earmites and vets I guess real vets do but hacks don't
what can i tell ya

Back in the day when I hsd multiple criiters we had a wonderfull vet nut he retired As I said Dr Lisa Meltzer-Press is now my vet and I am very happy woth that. ANd neither ehr or her husband said what took you so long.

That's terrible! I have to say, I sympathize with DU as far as her ear mites. My Vlad has had problems since I first got him, and now thankfully his ears look like they've cleared up.

It doesn't surprise me the first 2 vets didn't notice. I've learned it takes time to really find a good vet. Where I take the Dynamic Duo they have about 5 or 6. And they are all very good. If one misses something, another catches it in the next visit and they're very good about writing notes. And I'm always in the room with them so I always look to see what they are doing.

It's a good thing you worry though, I'm a worrier too, which means every time I think something is odd or wonder about something, I ask the vet. It's better to worry and ask, than not care and stay quiet.

when i tell the vet the cat has been scratching her ears and shaking her head I expect the vet to check i mean dr press put the scope in her ear and let me look and even i could see them crawling around
i mean com'n already!!!

i F I TAKE MY CAR TO THE SHOP AND SAY ITS SHAKING DO YOU THING THE MECHANIC SHOULD CHECK THE SUSPENSION?

sorry to rant but that kind of behavior is in excusable
i would love to call the hack that the rescue uses and tear him a new a hole
but i wont cuase of the rescue group I told the president of the rescue group what happend

I ill tell you what else i have a few friends that are thinking of getting a kitty and i am not sure i will recommend the group now

ancientgirl
August 10th, 2007, 11:33 AM
That really is inexcusable. If you tell them she's scratching at her ears, the first thing they should do is look in her ears.

Poor little DU. But at least you'll be getting something for her. My vet gave me this wash for Vlad, that I do every 3 days. His ears have cleared up soooooo much. I can find out the name when I get home. It's supposed to be very good for ear mite infection.

Jim Hall
August 10th, 2007, 11:48 AM
dr lisa treated it and for the first time since ive had her she will let me touch her ears. Lisa said it was a one time treatment and if they do reapper she will do it again for free

ancientgirl
August 10th, 2007, 11:56 AM
That's good. Did her ears have brown gunk in them? Vlad's ears were like that when I first got him, and for the first time since then they are now clear. When I look in them, no brown gunk. Oksana has never had a problem, but then again, I adopted her at my vet's office, and they took really good care of her there.

I can't remember Jim, was D U really a small cat? My Smoke is like that, she only really eats what she needs to eat, and nothing more, and her poops are very small and almost black, and she sometimes doesn't go every day, more every other day. She is perfectly healthy though and although very thin still a healthy weight for her slight frame. She is also very skittish, I think because of her size, as nothing has happened to her we had her since she was a baby (although she is affraid of and annoyed at the boys all the time).

Maybe DU is just not gonna be a big eater, as long as she gets what she needs I don't think you'll have to worry about it. 36 hrs... would be just under every other day, so it might be normal poopin for her once she gets the other stuff taken care of (teeth/ mites....still can't believe 2 vets missed earmites:eek: ).

I'm glad you wrote this, because it sounds like little Oksana!

Ya poor Smoke had tapeworm when she was just over a year, and was heading towards being a big cat right up till then. Ever since she has been a very small cat with enormous paws:pawprint: !

My parents cat, (well mine that I was not allowed to take when I moved out... by the "we're never gonna have pets" people who now have two cats), Cordelia is also very slight. She only eats when she feels like it and sometimes like Smoke will only take 3-4 kibble and then walk away. It's like they regulate themselves and eat only what their little bodies need. Which means they all have smaller more compact poops too cause there is less wasted food.

Now if only I could train myself and my boys that well!!

ancientgirl
August 10th, 2007, 01:43 PM
Exactly like Oksana. When I got her she had worms too, but after a treatment was fine. She's just this little delicate thing :lovestruck: and I see Vlad is just so big next to her.

Jewish mother=overly concerned and worried

Thanks for the explanation, Chico. I'm not Jewish but I've never of that trait among Jewish mothers. I've only heard the reference of being tight with money and I couldn't see why Jim was referring to himself like that. :D

So, Jim, how are DUs ears today? :fingerscr

I mean jewish motjer in only the best sense of the word protective concerened and williin to do anything for the health and well being of thier charges

As to down under since dr Lisa saw her she ahs been a changed cat in a lot of respects

She has become a vacumn clean of food any kind any time almost anywhere
She will come out often just for a pet and a combing, yes combing with a Fine tooth comb

I actually had her laying down and purring while rubbing her ears and face
I never had that happen

She is still a liitle spooky and the whole apatrment isnt a "safe place" yet
but we are workimg on it

I have to say of all the cats dogs and other beasties i have been charged with, this is the most satisfieing experinace i have had with an animal.
