This afternoon I discovered that my baby kitten has a red sclera of his eyes. Iíve been researching it but I canít find any answers. Please help, what is it a sign of and how to treat it. Thank you for your time.

Hi there. Are the eyes draining any fluid or discharge. Is the cat wanting to scratch at them. Is the cat a outdoor one? Are you aware of any injury to the eye(eyes). Have you started doing anything new with the cat? The sclera will turn red if they are irritated for any reason. If irritated they may drain fluid. If the cat has a eye infection they can turn red and there may or may not be thicker discharge-green/brownish. Sometimes if the eyes are irritated for some reason they clear up on their own. If this doesn't resolve I would go to your Vet so they can be assessed for infection, foreign body in them or some other problem . I am not sure if cats get allergies-If they do, this could cause it. The only other thing I can think is that if the eyes are scratched by whatever ,that could be a source of redness. That cat may need antibiotic eye drops if it is determined there is an infection.
