Nelly is a lover , not a killer

When I went out with the dogs last night , I saw Nelly smelling something on the ground. It was one of the baby birds that had fallen from the nest from my garage's roof. The little bird was screaming and I could hear the other babies replying to him but the parents weren't home. I just told Nelly to come , even if she was only looking and sniffing the little bird. If that had been Bailey, I don't think the little bird would still be alive :frustrated: BUT it was Nelly :lovestruck: I went back later (I had to leave the bird , I couldn't get him back in his nest as it's out of my reach) and sure enough, the parents must had took him back home.

I was so proud of Nelly. :cloud9:

Sorry for the long nails, she just won't let me cut them , will have to bring her to the vet for this.

I can't do my dogs nails either. Black nails scare me, I can't see the quick. I let my vet do them too.
Looks like she's enjoying that new toy just fine.
How old is she Frenchy?

Nelly is filling out nicely Frenchy ~ maybe another 10 pounds to go ! Ceili is like that with babies ~ well, all animals really. I think it makes a differnce whether they are dead or alive as well. Bridie will eat anything dead but if it's alive ??? I remember she once spit a baby-baby bird out of her mouth about 2 feet ~ I think it's wiggling must have scared her ~ scared me that's for sure !

 ewww ! I never caught Daisy with an animal , dead or alive , in her mouth but she sure loved to roll on the dead ones :yuck: Bailey I never know if they were alive before they got to his mouth (2-3 birds and a mouse) Sam : never. Both him and Bailey will roll on it if it's dead. Nelly never met anything dead yet....

That's what I tought too but my vet and other people told me otherwise. She can take 3-4 more pounds max. For a healthy great dane, you're suppose to see a bit of the ribs.

Yes, I've read that that is the standard as well,... but since when do I listen to standards ? It's like clothes models right ? Sure, someone at 5'10" can show off designer clothes better if they weigh 110 versus 150 but... they are healthier and will live longer with more muscle meat and protective fat on their bones.

If I get to keep Nelly , she will be the first dog I adopted that doesn't need to loose weight , and I intend to keep it that way  but yes , she will probably take a bit more weight next winter anyway. I don't really want to see her ribs.

I agree ~ I think 7-10 lbs would do her a world of good. And the superstitious one in me insists : :fingerscr that you get to adopt.

I don't know why I said "IF" , because really , she's not going anywhere... she just can't

Then we are agreed ~ if I cannot have her, then you will.:pawprint: :fingerscr (...just because I'm definitely not superstitious )

Being so skinny last year was probably part of the reason she hated to go outside, she must have been so cold, poor girl :frown: .

She's still just a youngster then. No wonder she's so playful.

I got some of those chew toys for the pups, they find them soothing on their gums I think. Especially Baxter as his gums appear to be bothering him now. I got them each a Cuz too, and what a hit!

Cuz are a BIG hit with 99% of dogs. The toy for the gums and teeth looked great too, and you know you can put toothpaste in it too (altough I wouldn't let the dogs with it inside the house!) I bought the largest one for Nelly but it wasn't big enough, they didn't have it for large dogs. That is probably why it only lasted 2 hours

Dazy has a smaller verson of that toy, and she doesn't care for it unless I put peanut butter in there, then she chews it for hours cuz you can't get it all out like a kong...I got one for a friend with a doby and he blew it apart too, but loved it while it lasted!!!

I have seen the cuz's on here, but never in the store, what is it, does it do anything?? I have heard all good thing, and everyone says their dogs love it, it looks like a rubber ball with tiny legs/arms...what's so special about them? :) You know, I got to get my girl one...I am leaving her for 12 days this Friday, a new toy might be in order. :dog:

You're right.....they're like a ball with horns (for the bad one which is the most popular) and legs. I have no idea why dogs like them so much. They are available in most pet stores now. If you get one, get the orange one.....it's the one dogs seem to like the best. :)

I have heard such great things about the Cuz. I bought the Devil Cuz and Boba and Maggie were not impressed - I was! - so I gave it to my co-worker who has a new Boxer puppy!

It has been almost 3 weeks since I bought Winston his bad CUZ and it is still intact (other than the squeeky) ....he loves it soooo much! He sleeps with it.....eats with it beside his dish..and whenever we go outside he will stop dead in his tracks and go look for his CUZ to take outside! It is hilarious! totally the best toy I ever bought for him! and it lasted more than a day!

I really don't know ! But when I bought the first one, as soon as Nelly would drop it , Molly (foster) would get it , and so on. So I had to buy a second on the next day  Now the sweeky is not longer sweeking , it's loose inside and Nelly loves it even more. :D
