What does it mean when a senior dog doesn't have many bowel movements anymore?

My dog is 13 years old and he doesn't seem to be going to the bathroom that much anymore. He already had artritis and has lossed his hearing, should I be concerned with him not going to the bathroom that much anymore means that he's just one more step closer to dying? If anyone knows about this topic, could you respond and help me. I'm scared my dog doesn't have much more time left.
