I received this in my e-mails today.

http://www.newstarget.com/Report_pet_food_ingredients_1.html

I think it is a great article on pet food and their ingredients. It lists the ingredients that you will find in pet food and it gives a star rating on the quality or lack there of. There is even a worst ingredient list.

I hope you find it as informative as I have.

There is absolutely no scientific reference material to back up what is being said on that group of sites.

For instance, Beet Pulp and Rice Bran are considered to be the best fermentable fibres for cats according to accredited published scientific papers,
(http://tinyurl.com/34g6xn), and where are the facts to back up the author's statements that these are bad? The author doesn't even seem to have enough nutritional/chemical education to understand that "beet pulp" is what is left after the sugar content is removed:

http://www.ingredients101.com/bppressed.htm

The site is set up to sell a book that I personally wouldn't waste the money on as no research has been done to ensure accuracy.

Yeahhh... Dr. Newman lost me here:

"menadione sodium bisulfite complex (3 stars) found in 35% of pet food products analyzed
Standard source of Vitamin K activity, necessary for blood clotting, aids as anti-parasitic for intestinal worms."

See: http://www.dogfoodproject.com/index.php?page=menadione

But all the same it's all part of an education right ?
