hi!

i'm new to the forum, i have two dogs. boo boo a boston terrier, and mia mia, a chihuahua. boo is a stray, who adopted me. ive had her about 6 yrs. mia mia was my daugthers dog. recently mia has been lactating, im not sure she is pregnant. no signs of it anyway. my question is this, can dogs do this, and not be pregnant? i dont have the funds to go to a vet at this time. thanks

I don't know anything about lactating in dogs, but I did find a list of low-cost spay/neuter clinics in Georgia for you so that you don't have to worry in the future about whether or not Mia Mia is pregnant.

It can happen, its called a false pregnancy. Other behaviours you may note is her nesting and possibly her gathering any stuffed toys she may have and treating them like her puppies (carrying them around wherever she goes, trying to nudge them towards her teats to suckle etc).

She most def. could be preg....there are such things as false pregnancies....but if she is preganant you need to be prepared. Do your research and talk to your vet. You can call your vet over the phone for suggestions....this same scenario happend with my doggie and she was pregnant but ended up miscarrying.

By the way just because you cant feel babies doesnt mean their not their....they wont even calcify until around 47 days (that means get their bones) and then about a week-week and a half later they give birth. So really unless there is a large litter it can be very hard to feel any babies unless you very experienced.
