Charley's latest Canoe Trip!

July 2nd, 2007, 09:55 AM
I htought I would post some pics of Charley taken during our last canoe trip. For those of you who remember, we ended up tipping our canoe last year... But not this year! This year everyone stayed dry, unless they chose otherwise.

Here we are at base camp. The yellow tent is ours, Charley sleeps in it or course!

This is Charley getting restless as we are getting ready to get on the water. The lifejacket is a must, while he knows the mechanics of swimming, his little legs and mass of fur prevent him for staying afloat!

Charley can almost always be found where the food is... We call him our bear prevention plan, he picks up any scaps that might 'fall' to prevent the wild critters from being attracted. He has also mastered the art of looking pathetic, and nothing I say to people can convince them not to feed him if my back is turned. The people in these pics are my step son, my brother and my Dad.

This is the view onthe water from Charley's perspective. He rides in the bow of the canoe so that he's close at hand for me to toss out of the boat in case we are going over (last year he got stuck under the canoe!)

The blackflies were pretty bad at the take out, if you notice Charley's white fur is more off-white around his face, he was rolling in he sand to get the flies off his face.

It took a full two days for Charley to realise he could get a drink from the river if his water dish was empty (read: had gotten knocked over).

And this is as close to the edge of the sunken platform that he would get (again, the little guy can't swim real well)

Not only does Charley have his own sleeping bag and air matt for the tent, he also has his own (yes, I bought it for him) camp chair

If someone has sat down in his chair (some people just don't understand why the dog needs to have his own chair... ), sitting under my chair is his next favorite spot (nobody trips on him when he's under my chair).

He loves the outdoors. And he stays within sight of camp at all times, so there's no need to worry about him getting lost following an animals scent... We actually saw a number of rabbits... what did Charley do? Chased them away from camp! He didn't follow them deep into the bush, he just made sure they an really fast them 'watered' all the trees along the escape path! lol

Hee hee....Charley chased the rabbits away so they couldn't get any of "his" food. I love the pic of him in the boat too. :lovestruck: Looks like a great time was had by everyone. :cloud9:

Great camping pictures, looks like Charlie is leading the good life out there :D .

He slept that night and the next 5. He's a really good camper, just enough dog to keep animals away, yet small enough to be a lap warmer if the temperature dips.

I like to think that he 'needs' a chair... Truth be told, he's too important to sleep on the ground! My familly is fairly certain that Charley is treated at least as well as most kids.
