HI i'm Jackie and i have a pup that has helped himself to a feed of raw rice...i found him asleep in the cupboard..( very cute) but now i am worried that he may have done himself some damage...he is quite active and appears to be fine eating drinking and so on ....is rice eaten raw bad for dogs?

Depends on the size of the dog and the amount of rice eaten. Remember, it will expand in the stomach. Could be very serious if he's eaten too much.

You may have been lucky and he didn't eat enough to cause serious harm. Do keep an eye on him over the next 72hours. If he shows any sign of discomfort ie. trying to stretch out, looking back at his tummy, lethargy, etc.. they he'll need a vet.

Good advice BMD! There have been some pets that have been killed by ingesting non-cooked grains. Unfortunately as the rice expands and absorbs liquid, it becomes a solid sticky mass which is much more difficult to vomit than a liquid. The expansion can occur faster than the stomach's response to the problem; before you know it the stomach is being stretched beyond it capacity.
Abdominal pain, retching, difficulty breathing and anything out of the ordinary - a veterinary visit is recommended at once. Good luck. :pawprint:
