an update on your brilliant training tips-a while back (you can find it in the archives) i had problems with answering the door with charlie. LR you suggested the 'enough' method. saying enough and feeding snacks. well at first it worked really well, but then charlie realised that there was food involved in barking, so she would sit at the window and give a pathetic puppy bark whilst looking out the corner of her eye for food, cheeky little girl. so i took the food out of the equasion, and bingo. i get her to sit, i acknowledge what she is barking at, i get her to look at me and i say enough in a calm but firm voice, she usually stops first time, sometimes secound. it hasnt worked at the door yet but we are still working on it, but boy does it help when the post lady rides by. so thanks LR and all of you who had other suggestions. you are just all brilliant :D :D

Glad things are going better with your little brat!:)
As for treats, yes, you phase them out as the period between her being quiet and getting one increases. Actually, it's much more successful if the dog gets random treats for obeying - say, a treat every 3rd or 5th (or whatever) time she obeys. This is the principle that keeps people working the slot machines.;)
Another thing that may help at the door is to have Charlie SIT. Dogs are much more comfortable barking while standing up, so that may discourage her a bit.
