Anyone with knowledge or first hand experience with presciption dog food? specifically, Royal Canin Calorie Control and T/D Canine? My 6 yr old Malti-poo has had a sore near the inside corner of her eye as well as flakey, crusty stuu around the nostril since Dec./06. Originally my vet prescibed an antibiotic ointment which did nothing, then we went onto prednisone but that too failed. She is now waiting for a biopsy scheduled for beginning of July. The vet is thinking it could immune mediated, like Lupus. Now both her eyes are affected and getting horribly worse as is her nose. I try to keep it clean, but the eye lesion starts to bleed, the scabbing getts stuck in her hair it's a mess and obviously uncomfortable to her. Vet put her on Dermacaps as this sometimes helps and does not interfere with the biopsy reading. I am now wondering if it could be her dog food. She's been on these two for 12-18 months. Would an allergy take that long to show up? Is there such thing as an allergy test for foods? The biopsy has to be sent to Ontario and that'll take another week or two. I'm afraid my pooch won't have anything but raw lesions on her face by then and possibly secondary infection.:
Any ideas??

Sorry to hear about your pup,IMO most vet-prescribed foods are not good, all you need to do is read the ingredients,to see it's loaded with fillers and grains.
Don't take my word for it,I am no vet and do not have a dog,but I would not feed my cats anything bought from the vet.
You have great food-choices in the pet-supply stores,no need to feed ,things like chickenmeal, cornmeal and wheatgluten.
Hopefully someone more dog-knowledgable will come around and give you a better answer:fingerscr
