My cat recentely came home with a large sore on his hind leg. Its swollen and he keeps licking it and opening it back up. I don't know how he got the sore. Is there anything i can do at home to help him?

Your best bet is the vet. The vet should check for trauma to the head, neck and spine..something you can't do.

I agree,it's possible he's been in a cat-fight and the wound can easily become severely infected, nothing you can do about it that he will not lick off.
A visit to the vet is your best bet,the wound might need a couple of stiches.

If its opening up, it most likely needs stiches.

If the wound is draining pus, it's most likely an abcess. It will continue to fill and drain, is probably infected and MUST be treated with antibiotics.
Abcesses are caused by cat bites, just one of the dangers to cats roaming outdoors.

When Bob tore his dew claw nail off, the doc mentioned some stuff called hibitane or something like that. Said you could get it at a pharmacy. Antiseptic. Just cut it with some water and keep the wound clean with it. But yeah, I'd head over to the vet anyway because it might need a stitch.
Can you put a cone on a cat so it doesn't lick? That would be brutal. I know dogs hate them, and can't imagine how much a cat would.
