I just got another dog!

I thought I would let you all know that we have another addition to our ever-growing family. A woman not too far from us just dropped her dog off yesterday for us to keep, or re-home. He is about 4 years old, a purebred Shorthair, and apparantly professionally trained, But, he is HUGE! I dont mean that he is a big dog, it is that he is about 20 or more lbs overweight

So, for the next month we will be putting him on a strict diet, on better food, and he will get more exercise playing all day with the 3 we already have. He is pretty depressed today, missing his "mom" and the queen size bed he usually sleeps on :p I am looking forward to seeing him once he is the size he should be. I dont think we will have too much trouble re-homing him, he is still young enough that people will want him, yet old enough to not be a puppy any more, plus he is a trained hunting dog, and neutered already!

I would attach a picture, but I dont have one yet, maybe later.

Oh, and his name is Woody.

Ok here is a pic, I went out and took one as soon as I finished posting. You will see what I mean when I said he needed to loose some weight :D

And yah RAINBOW I do have too many, but like you said, there is always room for one more

MUMx3 we had a day notice that we were going to get him. A friend of hers knew she was looking for another home for him and saw that we had some shorthairs already, so he stopped in to ask if we wanted another. Since we were worried about what would happen to him otherwise, we agreed, and the next day she came buy and dropped him off. Hey, what's one more when you already have 5, right HAZEL???

Ok, here he is...

The dog we bought last year was the same way, about 20 lbs overweight due to lack of exercise and poor food. She lost about 10-15 lbs in only 2 weeks with my 1/2 cup a day diet, and increased activity! She even finished her show championship this past May.

Even though he is a little chubby, Woody is gorgeous. :lovestruck: Good luck with his diet and hope to see pics of him with his new and improved bod. :fingerscr

How fortunate for this dog that you have taken him in. I just don't understand the mentality of someone that would put the time and effort into training a dog and the expense of vet bill for neutering and whatnot just to give it up down the road. Let me rephrase that a bit. I don't understand how anyone could give up a family member regardless of how little money and time that person may have put into the animal at that point.
Sorry to go off topic like that......congratulations on your new foster doggy. Good luck with him

He was the previous owner's husband's dog, and he died recently. She has no desire to use him for hunting and since she is now running the family business, has no time to exercise him properly either (hence his current condition). That is why she was looking for a new home for him. Her husband actually saved him from being destroyed when he was only 1 1/2 because he has a genetic defect that made his lower jaw much shorter than his upper. The breeder was going to put him down to make sure he was never bred. He offered to buy him and have him fixed, little did he know that he would not be around in 3 years to enjoy him :rip:
