Hi Guys..Can you help?

My Codi (Weimaraner and Pointer) just passed away after 16 faithful years. I have another female dog that has been with him for her 10 years.

She was really lonely, so I went to local pound to get her a friend. How confusing !! All these dogs going "Pick Me" What to do??

As I was passing a worker giving a dog a bath, the little dog jumped from the tub, all sudsy, and jumped right into my arms. Well, that decided it!! She picked ME !!!

After, having to wait 2 days for her to be spayed, I finally got to take her home (YEA) She is the cutest thing. She looks like a little terrier, but she must be part kangaroo. (maybe Jack Russell??)

She doesn't walk on the floor, she goes from my computer table, to my dining room table, to the kitchen, to the kitchen counters, to top of the tv.

In the middle of the night, I hear crashing, and I know she's knocked SOMETHING over.

Anybody have any suggestions??? If she wasn't s-o-o cute, I could be really upset.:dog:

a new dog shouldn't have free run of your house until she learns the rules and earns trust & freedom. you'll need to confine this dog for her own safety while she's learning what is appropriate (lounging on a dog bed) and what is not (jumping on countertops).

using a crate is my preferred method, but some ppl have success with gating the dog into a room, or even using a room w/ a door that closes.

Crate training takes time and slow introduction (especially in those animals who have been rescued, some may of had BAD experiences in the past w/ crates, so go SLOW). we can help give you tips should you decide to go that route.

first off, post a pic, so we may be able to help determine a breed, and offer specific suggestions.

Patience and I agree a crate is your best friend at this point.

And how is your female dog (name ? pix ?) handling all this chaos ?

jessi had some really good advice there. You might want to post another thread in the training forum about your new little one--you're more likely to get other helpful responses if you post there :thumbs up

You are going to have to set some ground rules for your new little girl and I agree with jessi76 otherwise you will have big problems down the road.

I also agree that we'd love to see pics of your two doggies.
