Help for Orillia/Barrie area for lost Sable

Pages : [1] 2

May 14th, 2007, 05:18 AM
Still nothing on Sable....just a few calls that didn't go anywhere.

I had another communicator reading...the one that gave us right on
locations back in the late fall.

I need some help ...

This is the second reading and she is getting the same information so
believes he is staying with this person....

Collie Dog there/ a horse/ two old grey barns / front porch with a round
back wood chair but

TENTS!!! About ten of them... green nylon

she believes the man there is a guide of some sort.

This is the Orillia/Barrie/Coldwater/Washago area.

Can anyone think of what type of guide would need tents on a farm??

I have been thinking some kind of organized turkey shoot...but am coming up
empty on leads for that.

We drove around all weekend on the back roads and came up with ZIP!

Can anyone help with suggestions of what it might be.

May 14th, 2007, 11:50 AM
I was thinking the Google Earth site maybe of some use. I have never tried it (we are on dial-up), but have heard from friends that you can zoom in to places via satellite to just about any property. They have told me that they can see our house quite clearly, maybe it's worth a try. Did the leads in Warminster etc., appear to be the dog with the green collar?

May 14th, 2007, 12:22 PM
Haven't tried Google Earth but I will see what I can do...
The dog with the green collar has vanished! Don;t think he has
been to Warminster...he seems to be running down along Lake Simcoe
towards Barrie. Poor thing

May 17th, 2007, 12:00 PM
Does anyone know of dowsers for lost animals. I am not finding much
on the internet.

I am getting really desperate! I think we may soon have to give up the
active search without any leads to go on.

May 17th, 2007, 02:47 PM
Shirley ~ I'm so sorry that Sable is still not home.

I don't know anything about animal dowsers but I was thinking about ways to contact farmers and country folk asking them ~ pleading ~ for their help.

This is the website for the 4H clubs of Ontario.

And this is a Ontario Gov website that lists all or most of the marketing boards and associations for farmers and their contact information.

Shirley, any new info/leads?

May 24th, 2007, 11:31 AM
I have just had another call from the Orillia area that said she
saw Sable last night. As well her friend saw him while she was driving.
A girl she works with said she saw him last week out in Marchmont. We had
the calls last week that he was around the HAwk Ridge Golf Club but I
spent all weekend searching that area but no Sable and no calls while I
was there.
Don't know what to do....seems people are still seeing him but afraid of him he is sol wolf-like and then call me days later and I can't even have someone up there or the OSPCA go to check it out.

I am so at a loss and getting so discouraged...almost thinking it is time to give up.

May 24th, 2007, 11:38 AM
I know the feeling. Don't be discouraged. At least there have been sitings. It would be great if someone would just happen to have a camera so that you can see for yourself.
Don't give up. Just maybe someone will be able to approach him and keep him indoors until you arrive.
I can imagine how frustrating it must be to feel like you're so close but never there....don't give up.

May 24th, 2007, 12:05 PM
Thanks for all the encouragement....but it has been so disappointing especially after chasing down the wrong dog three weeks ago and I know the two calls I had on Monday were not him....he had on a said it was red the other said the harness was blue....and the dog had blue eyes??
It is all just overwhelming at get your hopes up and then boom...down you go again.

May 24th, 2007, 12:47 PM
I feel so sorry for you I just want to cry and give you a big hug. Please don't give up hope and keep the flyers going, there is a lot of people looking for him.:grouphug:

May 25th, 2007, 08:15 AM
Just so you know my frustration....I had a call this morning at 4:30 a.m.
and although I appreciate every don't get me wrong, a lady saw Sable
about a week and 1/2 ago and just read it in the paper and thought she would let me know. Only a week and 1/2 ago. Do you know what my heart
did at 4:30 this morning when I saw it was a call from the "705" area code
Talk about a let down.
Enough complaining......I am beginning to believe he is in Orillia proper from
the calls I am getting and we have been looking on the outskirts. the lady
who called early this morning said she was close enough and did confirm the coloured pictures I emailed toher that is was him that he had no collar on but she said looked like he was being fed.
 I guess I am off to Orillia for the weekend to put up posters all over town

May 25th, 2007, 08:34 AM
Good luck... I hope you get a good lead..:fingerscr :fingerscr

May 25th, 2007, 09:09 AM
Weird she called at 4:30AM if it has been a week and a half since she saw Sable.

Sending you :goodvibes: and wish you luck!

May 25th, 2007, 09:44 AM
Have you tried asking in the local animal feed stores. Our local one knows every farmer, you could mention what the communicator said about the tents on the property. No doubt you have already gone this route, but try not to give up Shirley. I think even if he is being fed by someone, that it is not too far from where he is being seen. Good luck on the weekend.

We received a call last week from Horseshoe Valley in the Sugar Bush subdivision that Sable had been going to this one particular house for over 3 weeks. The man didn't know he was a "missing" dog as he had been in Florida over the winter and just got back early May.
Sable and another dog...part lab/Doberman? have been showing up regularly and the other dog is very friendly will let them pet him but not Sable he runs if approached but if not will lay under the deck etc.
We were called on Sat. morning last week and went immediately....the dogs have never returned.
Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. I received another call from a lady enroute to the house the dogs were going to that Sable had passed her house but alone.
She tried to follow him but lost him in the bush....there is a sectionf of the
Ganaraska Trail system that goes thru this area.
We spent the day there again today with no results......don't know how to
trace this other dog...any ideas?

June 2nd, 2007, 09:10 PM
Dont give up Shirley, you have had so many sighting... that in encouraging.

When you think you've nearly had enough, just think of my cat, Lexies story....the one you said gave you so much hope.

In my heart, I dont think you can give love Sable too much to do that:grouphug:

Once again we're sending you hugs, and good thoughts.

Shirley !! This is good news....Maybe this man could trap Sable if they come back...meaning under his deck if thats where they go...You have had so many sightings I beleive Sable will come home to you! I think that it is also good that Sable may have a friend...because people may have more sightings of 2 dogs rather than just 1!!

Still praying for you and Sable...sending positive thoughts your way!@

June 2nd, 2007, 10:59 PM
Don't give up:fingerscr :goodvibes: maybe this gut can help like Winston said.good luck.

June 3rd, 2007, 07:13 AM
Still hoping for Sables safe return, somehow it's comforting to know he's with another dog:dog:

For Sable's safe homecoming.

Oh, this must be so frustrating for always be one step behind. :frustrated: :grouphug: Don't give up.......your luck has to change soon. :fingerscr :fingerscr :goodvibes: :goodvibes: :goodvibes:

June 4th, 2007, 07:35 AM
I hope you find him soon :fingerscr :fingerscr :fingerscr . I get the same positive feelings off this thead as I did when I was following Maddie's adventure in Ottawa last fall. I know you must be so frustrated :grouphug: , but please don't give up hope.

June 4th, 2007, 09:50 AM
I hope you find Sable soon. It's very good news that people are still seeing him :goodvibes:

Good luck.

June 4th, 2007, 10:28 AM
I log on to this site almost daily hoping so much to read that Sable, Spencer and now Billy are back home where they belong. Have you spoken to the man Shirley? Maybe you could ask him to take a photograph, is he feeding him?

June 4th, 2007, 01:43 PM
If you could get the man to put food out to the dogs so they will keep coming back to his house, then maybe he would let you wait in his yard a few times a week to see if sable shows up. Or perhaps the spca would let you borrow a trap from them if you said you would set it up yourself?

Don't give up! I always remember the story of the golden retriever who was running loose for 2 years! No one could catch him, but after 2 years, he was finally caught and reunited with his family! You can read his story here ( he_lam/), I hope it will give you hope!!!!

June 4th, 2007, 05:49 PM
Thanks so much for the "Sam" the Golden is very encouraging as
I have lost faith this past week.
Unfortunately the OSPCA in Orillia are not very helpful.
He is still roaming from Horshoe Valley to Bass Lake and had a call today again
The folks where he was visiting haven't seen him now for over a week.
He was on the street leading to their house on Friday but didn't go there.
I don't think he will be interested in getting fed if he is being fed with the
other dog...but who know it will be worth a try.

June 5th, 2007, 09:22 AM
I've mentioned before that my daughter works at the OSPCA here in York Region. She knows investigators in both Orillia and Barrie, maybe they will be a bit more co-operative if they get a request from one of their own. She is fully aware of Sable's plight and always asks for updates. She may be able to help.

June 5th, 2007, 11:17 AM
Thanks Chris...I have sent you a private message and would like to
pursue this OSPCA thing a little. I am really upset with the response I have
been getting from them....I know they think I should give it up and that I am a little crazy. As long as I am getting calls I can't give up.

June 5th, 2007, 12:26 PM
Don't give up, I've sent you a message.

June 5th, 2007, 03:37 PM
Aww Shirley, you are definetly not crazy,I would do the same as you,for however long it takes, you love your dog and want him back home where he belongs.
Don't give up,as long as there is sightings there is hope and if he has survived this long,he is a fighter and has also not given up.

June 15th, 2007, 12:40 PM
Just ot update...have not had any calls on Sable since last Saturday morning.
He was heading north toward Washago...a complete new area for him.
We haven't had any calls so we really don't know where to even start
driving to I guess we will just have to sit tight and wait for a call.
We have changed our strategy a little in that most of the calls we are
getting he is being seen early morning and then again early it sounds like he is sleeping during the day so when we get a call we will go
in the afternoon not the morning as we have been.
Oh Sable just sit by the side of the road....someone will pick you up.

June 15th, 2007, 12:51 PM
Thank you for the update, Shirley, I was just thinking of you. Here is a big :grouphug: for you!

June 15th, 2007, 03:44 PM
Shirley,I am sorry:sad:
This must be driving you up the wall, for every sighting you're hoping this will be it,only to be let down again and again,it's frustrating even to read about it,no,don't stop giving us updates, that's not what I meant...
I am still hoping through a miracle Sable will soon be home:pray:

June 15th, 2007, 08:08 PM
Shirley ..... While I seldom post, I check here every day to see if there is any word on Sable. Hoping that one day soon you find him. Take care.

June 16th, 2007, 07:18 AM
I think most of us do,we can all understand, the high hopes, the dashed hopes and the feeling, knowing he's out there somewhere:sad:
 for Sables safety and a return to the family who loves him:pray:

June 18th, 2007, 03:09 AM
C'mon Sable......please let yourself be caught. :fingerscr :fingerscr :goodvibes: :goodvibes: :goodvibes:

June 20th, 2007, 06:28 PM
It has almost been two weeks on Sat. that we had our last "Sable"
sighting north of Orillia. Nothing since then until today.

Not that the lead was great but a man who saw Sable in Barrie last
fall saw him at the edge of Hwy. 11 in Orillia "LAST WEDNESDAY" EVENING.
Why do they wait so long?????? He said he was sort of prancing along the
edge of the highway as the cars went past and he even went onto the
highway so Roger pulled his car off the road and called to him....but as
usual he bolted into the bush just off the highway. At least he got him
to go from the road. He said he tried to call and went looking but the bush
was so dense he couldn't see him.

I so wish he had called me a week ago....I would have been looking in that
area and I also have some kind people in the area there who would have also
covered some territory.

I can understand him being in that area as there are a lot of fast food places there as well as it is not too far from the lake for water.

:yell: Sable just sit stay on the side of the road someone will pick u up.

June 22nd, 2007, 04:24 PM
Just had a call this afternoon someone saw Sable around noon.
He was headed north on Hwy. 11 on the southbound side and looked like
the was getting off at the Sparrow Rd. exit near Lake St. George.

This is still the same area as the calls that came two weeks ago.. so at
least we know to go and still look in that area. I want to post signs as
many places as I can.

I had one kind soul call to help last week but I didn't know where to have her look. She does some rescue work and wanted to help us. Turns out she
lives right in the area where Sable was least someone there
knows about him and might be able to see him.

Not much to go on but better than what we have had.

will keep you posted.

"Sable sit stay, someone will be there to pick you up"

June 22nd, 2007, 04:32 PM
Shirley, your sheer determination to find Sable brings tears to my eyes,I am sure I would do the same as you and I:pray: with all my heart, your determination and love for Sable will be rewarded, please, please Sable:fingerscr

June 22nd, 2007, 04:39 PM
I am hoping, that Sable gets caught safe and sound. :fingerscr :fingerscr :fingerscr

Shirley I don't get a chance to post too often, but have read this thread daily and almost jumped out of my skin when I saw your post. Was so hoping it would say Sable was found and home sleeping. I just want you to know that while I don't say it regularly here, my thoughts and prayers are with you and Sable. Poor boy, with all your determination he just has to make it home safely and preferrably soon. :fingerscr  Stick too it Shirley, we're all pulling for you guys.

June 23rd, 2007, 01:50 AM
Still hope he stops so he can be caught safe and reunited with the ones who love him.:fingerscr :goodvibes:

June 27th, 2007, 04:30 PM
I had another call on Sunday night a man who saw Sable last fall saw him
in Orilla not too far from Hwy. 11. He said he went in to get a leash and a
treat and POOF he was gone...nowhere to be see.
He said a friend of his had seen him not far from there earlier last week as well
His friend also though someone had him chained up and he would like me to
come up to Orillia and canvass the street they think he was being kept.

Unfortunately I can not go until Saturday but I will do that and pray for
more sightings.

June 27th, 2007, 08:32 PM
I hope it works out, at least you have a general area to search. :fingerscr :fingerscr

June 28th, 2007, 12:07 AM
:fingerscr I hope so:fingerscr C'mon Sable!

June 28th, 2007, 07:24 AM
Oh Shirley,let's:pray: someone has him:pray:

June 29th, 2007, 05:49 PM
Wow! I am beginning to feel like a real whinner!

I had a call today from a lady just south of Orillia on the Ramara side of
Lake Simcoe. She says she saw an animal on Wed. night 1:30 a.m.
(Thurs morning) She had pulled onto another road off Highway 12 and was
on her cell phone..she looked out here passenger window and an animal was
sitting on a knoll on the corner looking in her window. She said she was
scared to death but the animal kept looking at her. She saw only his head and
face and said he big round eyes.

After she left she remembered Sable and thought perhaps it had been him.
She said he was very , very dark in colouring which Sable is and that it
didn't look like a coyote or wolf. I sent her pictures and she said she thinks
for sure it was him.

Does anyone know if a coyote or a wolf would sit and look at a human in
a car. I am not familiar with their habits???

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated as I need to decide where I
might go to hunt this weekend. This location is just west and north of
where our cottage was....maybe 15 miles but it is only about five miles from
where the call in Orillia came from on Sunday night.

Thanks again for all the support I have received from this site.

June 29th, 2007, 06:09 PM
Well I'm pretty sure you're on your way to check out this lead no matter what! Aren't you??? Good luck on this new adventure search. One of these leads has just got to pan out with the safe return of Sable. Perhaps this will be your Canada Day weekend to beat them all!!! :fingerscr :fingerscr :goodvibes:

June 29th, 2007, 09:04 PM
Oh, Shirley, I hope and pray one of these leads takes you to Sable. I thnk of Sable so often as I am sure everyone who reads here does. Keeping fingers and paws crossed. Take care.

I had what looked like a coyote hear standing on a on ramp of a hwy look in my passanger window.but it took off running as soon as the bumper was just pass him.Good luck my fingers are crossed.:fingerscr :goodvibes: i wish you the best of luck.

June 30th, 2007, 01:33 AM
Sending lots of good luck your way for finding Sable tomorrow. :fingerscr :fingerscr :fingerscr :goodvibes: :goodvibes: :goodvibes:

June 30th, 2007, 07:18 AM
Shirley, you know we ALL think of you and Sable and
If he knows your cottage, maybe he is sticking around the same area for a reason, maybe it's a weekend cottager who feeds him,not knowing he's a missing pup??

June 30th, 2007, 07:40 AM
Yes Shirley we ALL are thinking of you! I really hope that someone does have Sable tied up...Not that that is good but maybe you will have a chance at getting your beautiful dog back! I was thinking that since this is one of the busiest holiday weekends you may have GOOD LUCK! More people around...maybe someone will spot him again....Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

Come on home Sable!!!!

June 30th, 2007, 12:36 PM
Oh Shirley, good luck to you. No way would a coyote watch for any length of time. No way, no way. They would only watch to see what a human was going to do and then run off.

   :fingerscr :fingerscr

July 1st, 2007, 08:24 AM
:fingerscr :fingerscr Keeping my fingers crossed. If only she would sit and stay in one place.

July 3rd, 2007, 10:14 AM
No luck in my search on the weekend...felt like I was looking in the wrong
area...perhaps it was a coyote....but....

I just got a call from the same area, I haven't spoken with the man who was walking his dog when he saw him but the lady who called said someone in the neighborhood is feeding the dog but the dog won't come near them.

I guess I am off to Orillia again this afternoon...will keep you posted and thanks for all the moral support.

July 3rd, 2007, 10:22 AM
Shirley I hope this is it, if at least you can find where he is based. Is this one in the Hwy.11 area or around your cottage area? When I saw you had posted, I thought this is it and hopefully this time, it is. Good Luck Shirley.

July 3rd, 2007, 10:33 AM
Shirley...the best of luck to you!!! We need more happy endings...:fingerscr

July 3rd, 2007, 11:06 AM is just off Hwy 12 south of Orillia but on the Lake Simcoe Side of
the Hwy. Someone told me with the summer animals stay close to water as most of the streams and ponds have dried up for a water source and both of these last two calls are just a stones throw from each other.

I still haven't connected with the man who actually encountered wasn't just a sighting apparently the dog came up to befriend his dog.
I hope the neighbor putting out the food doesn't try to catch him. The lady I spoke with said she is still putting the food out but the dog won't come near her.

July 3rd, 2007, 11:33 AM
Can you leave a prized toy attached to a bell/empty cans that will wake the home owners up if Sable comes around and tries to retrieve her toy, or even a blanket. Anything with Sable's or your scent on it that will attract her enough to come close to the house. It may even keep Sable in the immediate area if she thinks her family is around.

Good luck, Shirley and bless you for not giving up.

July 4th, 2007, 01:35 AM
I did find the person who Sable had contact with...but he was only there
one afternoon. It was on Friday and he hasn't been back since. The man
there did get him to come and take food from his hand after about an hour.

He played in the backyard after they talked him out of some baby ducks, and was with their two dogs. They tried to get a collar and leash on him as they thought he must belong to one of the cottagers in the area but he would not have anything to do with a collar.

Apparently this is not the first time in the area...they saw him about two weeks this looks like part of his circle and my guess is he is back in Orillia now.. There is no way for him to get to the next section of housing along the lake without going thru a very swampy area or going back out to the highway so my gut feeling is he has followed the road along the lake back to town.

I was at least encouraged that he had human contact as most people tell me he is wild now and no one will be able to catch him but somewhere he has had contact in the past couple of weeks. The man also gave him some dry dog food..he said he ate some not gorging and didn't eat it all....Sable hates kibble...holds out for the MEAT, so that didn't surprise me.

I guess it is the wait game for another call but at least I know he has another area he frequents!

July 4th, 2007, 07:12 AM
Shirley,It is fantastic how many people know about Sable, thanks to your determination.I am 99,9% sure one day soon,he'll get caught.
In the back of my mind,I wonder what living on his own for nearly a year, has done to his demeanor, however nobody has told you he's behaving aggressively, right?
First though,he has to come home:pray::fingerscr then you can deal with any changes in him, maybe once he sees you again, the home he loved, everything will be back to normal.
Why would someone not try to trap him, with fresh meat or canned food in a humane trap(from HS),especially where he's been coming occasionally,or has that already been tried?

July 4th, 2007, 07:23 AM
Everyone who has encountered him for a short time doesn't get the opportunity to trap or even befriend.

Those who have had the opportunity have not known he was the missing elusive Sable.

Unfortunatly the last two places neither get the out of the area and the other in a cottage area where they don't distribute the free paper

The man at Uptergrove yesterday thought it was someone who was away at work who's dog had gotten loose. He said he tried to get a collar on him
to keep him til he could find out who owned it.. had he done that I'm sure
someone would have known...but Sable had no part in that and he hasn't seen him again. He offered to go when I get the call as he felt he could
coax him near again and he also lost a dog that was never found so he understood what I am going thru.

There are a lot of people on the lookout for him in that area and also the animal control for Ramara was called and he has been patrolling the area.

July 4th, 2007, 09:19 AM
I would take the man up on his offer Shirley, since it takes you over an hour to get there. Maybe and I say maybe, he might have more luck with a rope with a loop rather than trying to put a collar on Sable. I don't think that Sable has turned wild, he's looking and knows that the folks that try to catch him are not the ones he is looking for. Hopefully Ramara animal control is more co-operative than the Orillia outfit. You will get him back Shirley, I know you will. Did you take one of your girls with you?

July 8th, 2007, 08:52 AM
Just to update on the Sable hunt...he was still being seen in the
Uptergrove area south of Orillia as of Wed...I did get a call from a man
who "thought" he saw him in Orillia on Friday night but he wasn't real sure
as it was getting dark and he wasn't too close.

I stayed in the area all day Saturday but no new calls or sightings. I have
plastered the areas with signs and talked to so many people.

I do feel it could have been him in Orillia as there is something that always takes him back there....probably now it would be anyones guessw which direction he is in now..... it will be a wait and see for another call to
come in.

Although discouraging, at least he is still being sighted :dog:

July 8th, 2007, 10:34 AM
Hi Shirley .... Just wondering if you have contacted any of the small newspapers in the area. Perhaps they would insert a story and picture as a public interest article what with you returning to the area to search for such a long time.

I am sure you know you are in all our thoughts, and we are keeping fingers and paws crossed for Sable's safe return. Take care.

July 8th, 2007, 10:44 AM
Shirley ..... I am sure you most likely know this, but there are 2 newspapers that cover the Orillia area -The Packet and Times and Orillia Today. Probably you know this, but I was just checking online.

July 9th, 2007, 11:58 AM
I'm so happy he is still being sighted. That's really encouraging. :thumbs up
yayy sable

July 9th, 2007, 01:28 PM
It's wonderful to see he's being fed by if he could just stay in one place long enough....:fingerscr

July 9th, 2007, 03:45 PM
I honestly don't think he would wander away to another area,I think he has established a territory where he stays and probably gets fed at times.
Why would he go someplace else,he is still a domestic animal and probably likes to stay where he feels familiar.
OMG,the day he is finally caught will be a day to celebrate here in Cyberspace!!

July 10th, 2007, 04:45 PM
We just had a call and a lady thought Sable has been killed on Hwy 12
just between the Casino Parking lot and Brechin which is the area we have
been searching for the past week and 1/2.

I am hoping it is not him but I am fearing the worst. My husband is on his
way from Aurora so he was going to check it out.

July 10th, 2007, 04:52 PM
   I hope it's not him either.

I will hope for the best for you...even if you are fearing the worst.

I'll think :pawprint: sitive for you hehe.

July 10th, 2007, 06:23 PM
Don't husband called to say he can't find anything and has been up and down Highway 12....says whatever it was must have walked away..said he drove slow and checked the ditches....

We can never see this dog!

Don't know what to say.....:fingerscr for another sighting

July 10th, 2007, 07:25 PM
  Shirley...hope it's not him. When I started putting up posters for Billie someone called to tell me that they were sure she was the dog they saw lying on the road but they were wrong. Anything is possible and knowing Sable's ability to survive I wouldn't be surprised that it wasn't him.:grouphug:

July 11th, 2007, 06:36 AM
OMG Shirley,my heart went for a leap, tears were building, he's not laying wounded somewhere,or any dog is not laying somewhere suffering..
You've had sooo many hopes dashed, but I:pray: it's not going to end like this:sad:

July 11th, 2007, 10:01 AM
I'm just sick to my stomach reading this Shirley. Have you checked with the town's roads department, they are responsible for picking animals up that are on roadways. Did you get an exact location from the woman that called you? I just can't believe that fate would do this to you after so long. Let's all keep hoping that it just isn't true.

July 11th, 2007, 03:24 PM
Yes, the roads dept. have not picked up anything....there was a house right
in front of where the animal was hit but more than 1/2 way to Brechin which
is a little further than he has been about 10 miles....we figure it
must have been the house out front that owned the dog....Bob said there
was an awful storm and no one other than an owner would have been out in

Again it will be a wait and see!

July 11th, 2007, 03:44 PM
Can you go and ask the owner of the house if he aw anything..I hope its not Sable. He's got to be found.:fingerscr :fingerscr

July 11th, 2007, 04:28 PM
Shirley! I am praying for you and your family that this is really not Sable....I am sure you probably have already done this but could you arrange for a whole bunch of people to come out to an area to search on a weekend...with posters in hand..speaking to people or knocking on some doors??? maybe it will jog someones memory / sighting... I realize to do this you would need to confirm another good sighting of Sable...but honestly I would come from Hamilton to help search with you...I am not close but if it was arranged for a weekend or something I would try to be there for you. My heart is broken for Sable, Jace,Spencer and all the others missing out there..I am so sad that these things happen....

How did Sable get lost ? I cant recall ? You are an angel for still caring....Stay strong...

July 11th, 2007, 05:51 PM
Thank you for all the kindness. We have not heard anything on Sable since
Sunday afternoon but we do know he has been going back into Orillia and
probably late at night....a man who has been helping me from Coldwater did
some talking to folks this morning and confirmed that call last Friday night
that others too have seen him in Orillia in this industrial area behind some

I am thinking if he is still alive, he might also have figured out the Provincial Park has lots of food from campers.

We couldn't find him last night but then the roads say they haven't picked up either so it will be a wait and see....the paper comes out again tonight so
hopefully someone will have seen him.

July 12th, 2007, 02:02 PM
OMG, Shirley, my heart stopped when I saw your posting of a hit dog. I pray it was not Sable.

I am sure he has not forgotten your family's scent. Can you get some articles of clothing to those who are helping you look so they can use them to try to entice him to come closer so they can capture him?

I think of you everyday and this is the first thread I check when I log-on.

Good luck.

July 15th, 2007, 05:30 PM
I feel like I am on a roller-coaster. Had a call from a young person at
Casino Rama that says there has been a dog coming there off and on
over the past week and 1/2. She says he looks like the picture but appears to have more beige fur in clumps. She says he comes to an area where the employees go for smoke break. Some of the employees have been giving him scaps. She said she got close enough the other day to pat his head when he took a piece of sandwich from her. She said he is very frightened but does come for food. She says she is not 100% but thinks it is him. She has a camera cell phone and will take his picture the next time she sees him. she called already Sun. around 4:30 to say she was off early today and he usually doesn't come until around 6 or 7 but will watch for him tomorrow.

My son is up there now and is going to wait around for a bit...he says he can see where there is a path from the bush to where the employee picnic tables are.

After all the other wrong dogs I have been chasing, I am not too hopeful but will do everything we need to chase down this lead.

It is just a wait and see again.

July 15th, 2007, 06:11 PM
shirley1011 I've been  & hoping you find your Sable soon :goodvibes: :grouphug: :dog: :goodvibes: :grouphug:

What happened to make him run off?

July 16th, 2007, 01:49 AM
Shirley, you've had so many leads and it's time your luck changed. :fingerscr :fingerscr  :goodvibes: :goodvibes:

July 16th, 2007, 07:09 AM
Shirley, for sure this is an emotional roller-coaster,probably for your whole family, even for us here at the Forum..
If you post, yours is the one I'll check first, always hoping:pray:

July 16th, 2007, 07:25 AM
My son Mark waited until after 9 on Sunday night but he said it was really busy at the Casino and NO DOG. He also followed the trail from the bush and
it leads back across the road to an old rail trail that leads directly to the bridge back into Orillia.

I also had a call around 1:30 this morning from a lady who thought she saw Sable run across in front of the Casino shuttle back to the parking lot on
Highway 12 south. That road also would lead him back to the Casino across the fields.

Thanks for all your prayers and encouragement. It has been very emotional for me especially when it turns out to be another dog or the lead goes cold or the dog has been hit. It would be so easy to just give up and get on with life but I can't do that to Sable if he is still out there.

July 16th, 2007, 10:15 AM
Shirley, I hope this is Sable and that you are soon reunited. Take care.

July 16th, 2007, 01:36 PM
Shirley, was your son up there just for the day/night or is he staying up there and will be able to check every night?

Stay strong. :grouphug: :fingerscr :fingerscr :goodvibes: :goodvibes:

July 16th, 2007, 04:41 PM
Shirley...I'm still sending positive vibes your way...I :fingerscr  he will be either photograhed,( which isn't the same like having him in your arms but still close enough to give you that extra hope), or caught by some lvoing people who know of his story...good luck

July 17th, 2007, 10:19 AM
It is very possible the clumps of beige fur is his undercoat, with a coat like Sable's, if they are not brushed out then they accumulate in a clump, it even happens with our Basset Hounds....:fingerscr

July 19th, 2007, 02:30 PM
Stop the rollercoaster...I need to get off....just had a call from the Mara Provincial Park that they had captured a dog...called me instead of OSPCA. I gave them the # and then found out Ramara Twp. animal control picked up the dog...but it is not Sable it is a King Shepherd...hope that is not what people are seeing.

I didn't know anything could be this stressful!

July 19th, 2007, 03:05 PM
Shirley! I can not even imagine what you must be feeling! Rollercoaster! OMG!!! But I went back in this post to get a fresh look at Sable and isnt there a huge difference between her and a King Shep? and I noticed a post from Chris 21711 and maybe that is why you got the is a caption of his post from back at the beginning..

I've mentioned before that my daughter works at the OSPCA here in York Region. She knows investigators in both Orillia and Barrie, maybe they will be a bit more co-operative if they get a request from one of their own. She is fully aware of Sable's plight and always asks for updates. She may be able to help.

Anyway...stay strong! There are so many people praying for your family!

July 19th, 2007, 03:36 PM
Awww Shirley,my heart went for a leap, when I first started reading and then:sad:
You are a very strong young lady,as is your love for Sable, the stress and ups and downs must do a number on you...but how do you give up on an animal you love, when is a long time too long:confused:
I don't think there is a timelimit, not until you find him one way or the other.
I wish people carried their cameras around everywhere like I do,the only way you can know for sure is seeing his picture, would that not be something!!
I  someone will show you his pic:pray:

July 19th, 2007, 06:48 PM
Thanks for the continued support and especially Chico..young lady...only wish I was...I'll soon be ready for the old age pension!
At least the King Shep. that was picked up today was described as a
well cared for and well fed dog. The dog at the casino described as thin and
mangy with the bunches of fur. The young girl from there called and said she still hasn't seen him since Saturday but is still watching and will get a picture when she does.

At least with today's rollercoaster ride, I was got in touch with the animal control at the Indian Reserve where the Casino is located and he was not aware of Sable's plight but said he would be sure to look for him on his rounds.

July 19th, 2007, 07:02 PM
Don't give up hope just yet, too many people are still giving you their help and there are many of us who can't help but are sending you all the +++vibes we can :fingerscr

July 19th, 2007, 07:11 PM
Well, at least you've got one more pair of eyes with the Reserve AC watching for Sable. I pray for the day when you are finally reunited. Sending more good luck your way. :fingerscr :fingerscr :fingerscr :goodvibes: :goodvibes: :goodvibes:

July 19th, 2007, 07:33 PM
Shirley ~ I saw the advert for Sable in the "missing" section of Cdn Pets and Animals. The message is out there ~ don't lose hope ! :fingerscr

July 19th, 2007, 09:40 PM
you are definetly right, Shirley. It is stressful.
Even walking down the street. My eye goes to every single white probably stare at all the dogs that look liek Sable too.

Then going to all those animal shelters and those dogs are waiting to be picked up. It's silly but I just keep thinking "why havn't these ppl looked here yet!..your dog is RIGHT HERE!"..

lots of people know about Sable though...and I have a description and a link to one of the websites where he is posted on my group page for spencer. Lots of people see they can look for sable too.

July 20th, 2007, 07:22 AM
Shirley,I am a"young"63:laughing: a few aches and pains, but if it was about any of my animals, adrenalin would keep me going, with collapses in between.
I am glad you have an extra pair of eyes and a girl with a camera.
My son goes to a reservation regularly(cigs!),he says there are always plenty of dogs running around lose, could Sable possibly have joined them:confused:
As for giving encouragment,it's all we can do,keping the hope up until Sable is back home.:fingerscr

July 20th, 2007, 08:30 AM
My daughter working at the OSPCA sadly didn't make any difference, I thought it could have helped. I think that the organizations that are paid for their animal control services should have websites like Toronto Animal Services, none of them do in our area. Seems like the dog at the Casino was definately not the one picked up. Your heart must have just leaped when you got the call Shirley, everyone I have told about your plight for Sable, admire your dedication, it will pay off in the end.

July 20th, 2007, 11:51 AM
Hi Shirley

I sure admire your dedication as well
My daughter is attending YLCC camp in Orillia
off of Memorial Ave
Not sure if this is anywhere near the same areas you have been
but I can ask the camp if that would help
I may be scooting up that way tomorrow as well
One of the sessions is a program where the groups
portage in the area so they groups are all around the lake
No tents but cabins and it is on lake Simcoe
Just thought it might help

July 20th, 2007, 12:16 PM
Lynda...that is exactly the area Sable has been seen is from Memorial Ave
over to the Lake and lastly across the bridge over the narrows at
Atherly toward Casino Rama.
Thank you for thinking of Sable and as many eyes looking will only add
to helping find him.

July 20th, 2007, 11:06 PM
I will take Sable's picture with me tommorrow and ask at the camp
Can you contact me privately for contact info? I really am not sure how these boards work
You are in my thoughts

July 20th, 2007, 11:36 PM
Lynda, that's really great of you to offer your help.

Sending lots of good luck with you. :fingerscr :fingerscr  :goodvibes: :goodvibes:

July 20th, 2007, 11:50 PM
Lynda...thanks for your offer to help...every extra pair of eyes helps.
I have tried to send you a private message with my contact information
but it says you can not receive private messages. Should you or anyone
else wish to contact me you can do so at

Thanks again

July 21st, 2007, 06:40 AM
Shirley,another weekend and renewed hope:pray:
Also, thank you Lynda for wanting to help:)

July 22nd, 2007, 10:29 PM
Thanks again to all of you who are keeping my faith in finding Sable.
I haven't had any calls in over a week until just now a 11:28. One from
a girl in Orillia...thinks she saw him on James St. near a church which is
the same area of town I have got them from before..It also leads to a
path that goes along the Lake.

Don't know if it was him or not but will check it out tomorrow.

July 22nd, 2007, 10:36 PM
Hi Shirley

No news from Orillia but the camp knows
Since I was there between sessions most of the senoir staff
were gonefor the day. I will email them his picture just in case the message wasn't passed on to everyone. There are a handful who live there year-round
so someone else may have seen him
Sorry I didn't have better news

July 23rd, 2007, 01:05 AM
Don't know if it was him or not but will check it out tomorrow.

Shirley, are you staying up there now?

July 23rd, 2007, 09:03 PM
I had a call today that someone on the Indian Reserve at Rama thought they saw Sable..The caller was not the one to see him and wasnt sure of
where he had been seen.
The girl did call from the Casino tonight, 30 minutes after I left and said she
has a picture but I don't think it is him...haven't seen the picture..her phone died so she is sending it tomorrow...but from her description sounds like there is white on his face and Sable's face is very very dark.

I seem to want to think he is in Orillia...that is where the constant calls keep coming from and from a 1/2 mile radius. I will keep the ad going again this week and hope someone soon tries to catch up with him.

July 23rd, 2007, 09:10 PM
I don't think I ever posted in this thread. But I do read it, and I don't post because everytime I see you just put an update, I always think that's it , she found him. But then I read otherwise, and get too sad to post. :frown: I really do hope you find him , you are putting so much effort into this, how can this not work out. :fingerscr  :grouphug:

July 24th, 2007, 06:20 PM
I am still  for you to find Sable. I hope you get a good lead soon. :fingerscr

July 27th, 2007, 09:45 AM
Shirley, did the girl from the casino forward you the photograph that she took?

July 27th, 2007, 06:58 PM
No she didn't send me the picture. When I spoke with her the other night she said the dog she had the picture of had a lot of white on his face which Sable doesn't...his face is very dark and no white. Her battery was low and she said she would send it but I am sure she compared it to the colored picture that is in the employee lounge at the Casino.

I had a call last night but I'm not sure what to think of it..this lady said she hadn't seen the dog but several of her neighbors think they have seen Sable but that is in the Udney area which is only about 5 miles from the cottage but there are a lot of coyote/wolves in that area so I am waiting to get a name and phone number from one of the neighbors before I go up and check out the area. I will take lots of posters and talk with whoever I can in that area but I don't even have the exact location at this point

July 27th, 2007, 08:08 PM
Shirley ~ I know I speak for all of us on (and I'll start another thread about this under Heroes) when I say how much I admire your determination ~ you love for Sable knows no boundaries.

July 27th, 2007, 09:06 PM
I so agree, your devotion is a beautiful thing to witness, and I pray it will be rewarded. Like Chico, I leap on your posts, hoping that you have finally found your vagabond. May it be soon!

July 27th, 2007, 09:06 PM
I sure do agree! I get so discouraged but reread these posts to keep going
What a blessing and I pray for happy endings for us all

August 2nd, 2007, 12:16 PM
REALLY weird call just now ..a lady called and asked if we had the ad in the
paper for the missing dog...answered yes...she asked why...answered because our dog is missing....she asked how long has he been missing....answered 10 months and she hung up.

She blocked her Id on the incoming call from call telephone carrier can not give me the incoming telephone # until Sept. was an 800 # that was in the paper and I will be charged for the call and the # will be on the bill.

Allstream told me the only way I can get it is if I can convince the police to access the number but I don't want to go there as I know they will not understand the gravity of this.

I think someone has him...any thoughts on what to do or is it just my imagination?

August 2nd, 2007, 12:52 PM
Shirley that certainly is a weird call??? I was also wondering a couple of months back if someone had Sable too?? only because it has been so long! I dont know what to think of that call?? Perhaps if you called the police station to ask some advice from them?? They probably will not give out any info because of our privacy laws etc but maybe you would reach someone with some compassion and understanding...:fingerscr

I keep praying everyday for your Sable,Billie,Spencer and Jace! and all those still missing!

August 2nd, 2007, 01:00 PM
If someone has him, adding "$$$ REWARD $$$" and "needs medication!!"* to any newspaper ads or flyers might convince someone to return him. Also "family is heartbroken", "other dogs are grieving for him!" etc.

*adding "needs important medicine" even if the pet doesn't is an old trick, and I personally would make something up to get my dog back.

Also maybe you could get in the newspaper or on local tv....if you contact your local papers/tv and radio stations, and sell this as a human interest story, you could reach many people that way and maybe the person who called you would see you and call again. :fingerscr

August 2nd, 2007, 01:55 PM
Shirley...the Humane Society actually told me to put 'needs daily medication' on the posters for Billie even though she doesn't. It supposedly makes people more compasionate...the $$$ doesn't hurt either for those that are greedy.
I emailed a couple of people from city tv regarding Billie but they did not say anything on the air. Carly mentioned that she had some air time and they showed pictures of Spencer. We should get together and email Ann Rohmer, she hosts 'Animal Housecalls' and I've heard they show animals up for adoption.

August 2nd, 2007, 04:06 PM
Shirley, that call was certainly weird, but if she had him and wants to keep him,why would she call??
I am sorry you have to put up with all this and still no Sable:cry:

August 2nd, 2007, 06:51 PM
I don't know what to make of the call...I just have a gut feeling about this one. I read that post that I did on the Fostering and Rescue section this morning and the tears just flowed! I could just picture the first part as what Sable has been going thru and then by the end I hoped someone has found him like this rescue dog...and then this call....

I also had a call from a lady last night who says she is sure she saw Sable but he had a choke chain collar on..She looked at the colored pics I have on and said she is positive it was him. I will check that area out over the weekend as there are a lot of summer cottages around Bass Lake just outside Orillia

August 2nd, 2007, 07:36 PM
Oh Shirley, all paws and fingers are crossed in my house ~ you know that about all of us. But, don't put too much stock into this phonecall. There are many people in this world who either don't realize or don't care that their actions are cruel and thoughtless. :grouphug:

When I read your other post, I was wishing you wouldn't read stories like that ~

August 3rd, 2007, 07:12 AM
Shirley, all we can do is hope, hope that your love and dilligence for Sable will reward you with a wonderful reunion:pray:
I would think, were he no more with us,hit by a car etc...with all the posters and people knowing of him, somebody would have found his remains and reported it,so we are all still hopeful he will be found safe and sound:dog:

August 3rd, 2007, 10:47 AM
Did'nt you have a call sometime ago Shirley about a sighting around Bass Lake of a dog with a choke collar on? Sounds like it could be the same one. I wish you all the luck in the world this weekend.
In our local paper yesterday(the Era-Banner Newmarket edition, (I don't know how to cut and paste) there was an article about a woman who just got her Yorkie back after ten years, said that she got a call from a neighbour in her old neighbourhood saying that they had her dog. As usual in our local they only tell you half a story without telling circumstances.
Once again the best of luck.

August 3rd, 2007, 08:49 PM

I think someone has him as well.

I know of a lady who lost her golden retriever, she posted pictures of the dog everywhere and she placed a big add in her local newspaper. No reply...weeks later, she posted more pictures of her golden with her young children and she got a reply.

The women who found him said, she was going to keep him since her golden died. (The golden who got lost had all his tags on) even though she saw all the adds for the dog.

Then she saw the poster with the dog and children and she felt guilty and gave the dog back.

Dogs just don't vanish especially since you are doing everything possible to find your dog.

August 4th, 2007, 11:09 AM
Oh I hope it's sable. :fingerscr :fingerscr I hope you track down the person or hope she calls back. :fingerscr

August 6th, 2007, 02:09 AM
Honestly, I hope she has sable and is going to give him back as well. Not only do I I want Sable, Billie and Spencer home more than I want a lot of things in the world right now...but for the sake of human kind, I hope that woman has him.

I am sick and tired to death of people prank calling, prank emailing, telling people their dogs are dead or they have the dog when they don't. I do realize there are soo many good people who are willing to help (eg, everyone on this website), however, I come to realize that there are just wayyyy to many sick freaks too.

Shirley, I'm sending many many good vibes for this phone call:goodvibes: :goodvibes: :goodvibes: I really.really.really. hope that it's sable.

Ps. In response to SIL's post. I contacted the producer of ANimal housecalls a few months back. They told me they couldn't mention losts dogs because they just have too many requests for that. I understand his point; I bet he does. Maybe someone somewhere would do a story. Not just one, but THREE people who are helping each other look for their lost animals hehe.

August 10th, 2007, 07:53 AM
I believe we have shared the same frustrations while searching for our dogs.
Leon has only been missing since July 21 2007 so I can't imagine how many times you must have given up on him. I am in the Barrie area and we have been out searching quite a bit. Now I will know to keep and eye out for Sable as well.

August 10th, 2007, 11:04 AM
Thanks for your concern for Sable...I was so upset when I read about yet another dog in the Barrie area missing.
We get most of our calls from the ad we run in the Orillia Packet and Times..when Sable was in the Barrie area we ran it in the Barrie examiner...wonderful people in both towns, when they see how hard you are looking they really pitch in...I have had complete strangers calling and wanting to know where to look even thought they have never seen him.

I really think someone has Sable right now...had a call last night again and they wouldn't answer but I got a number but it is unlisted....I keep calling it.
Where in Barrie did yours go missing...once Sable found the rail trail between Orillia and Barrie he could travel so fast....but so many people walk the trail and can keep their eyes open if they know and there are plenty of places to put the posters.....also try the north Simcoe news...coming out again real soon only a few issues a year and that goes out into all the rural areas by mail. That is how I discovered Sable in Horseshoe Valley.

Also if you can, and let me know if you can't & I can do some for you is to
print a picture on one side and info on the back in a business card size to hand out to people when you meet them walking...they are more likely to keep it with them and put it in their pocket..I found handing out a flyer was hard for them to handle especially if they are walking their dog.

Let me know if I can help in any way.

August 10th, 2007, 11:37 AM
Do you still think he may be at that farm with the tents? If so I'm on the lookout. I think Dianne ( is looking into the North Simcoe News.

Business cards are a great idea. I can print some off.

Leon jumped my fence (23 Pratt road near Grove and St.Vincent) only 2 hours after he flew in from Greece. He was seen the next day Johnson street and Shanty Bay Road. Then the next day down town. Then we were getting calls for at least two dogs in the south end. Minett's Point, Tollendale Rd. Hurst Drive, Huronia Road, Ferndale, Veterin's Drive, Mapleview. The last report was July 28th a.m. at Centenial Park.

I have spoken to a communicator twice and she believes he is still alive and hiding. Getting enough food from garbage. She believes he could be in industrial or strip plaza area. Somewhere where there may be a breezeway between buildings.

August 10th, 2007, 02:49 PM
Not sure about the green tents...never could find them but good possibility.

I hope you find him soon...what an awful experience for the poor thing to have come all this way and then go missing.
Another rescue lady adopted out two dogs also from the Oshawa area to Midhurst last January...they were only there a few days when they dug out under the fence and have never been seen again..she is heart broken and says she will never let the dogs be adopted out of the area again.

Johnson St. & Shanty Bay Road....Sable was there back in early Nov. know that one !

Again, I know the paper ads are expensive but the best way to get the word out....try and get the paper to do a human interest story on is a very sad story...they did one for Sable on the front page back in November but we got so many calls from so many places...because of him looking like a wolf..

Again let me know if there is anything I can the way who did you use for a communicator...anyone local?

August 10th, 2007, 02:57 PM
Leon is getting quite popular because of the human interest side of the story He has been in the papers and on the A channel news.

And he also is very distinctive looking so he has that going for him. Just had a call that he was seen yesterday on Victoria Street. This is very promising as there have been other sightings their.

We are doing a Search on Saturday at 4 PM starting at Centenial Park (at the slides) if you know anybody who would be interested in coming out.

The animal communicator is Claudia Hehr from Aliston. She is quite renouned.

August 10th, 2007, 08:26 PM
I also used Claudia Hehr as my animal communicator. SHe gave me details of the inside of the house where my dog is..but I havn't been able to find it yet.
She was a nice lady though.

August 10th, 2007, 08:27 PM
I am back in Orillia tomorrow to pick up my daughter...any areas to look?
I am not sure where your last sightings were
I am curious about animal communicators......are they helpful?
Expensive? Any info would be great

August 11th, 2007, 10:38 AM
Thanks Lynda...the only two calls I have had in the past couple of weeks are one in Orillia at Coldwater Rd. & Hwy 11 area and out at Prices corners at Horseshoe Valley Rd. & Hwy 12.

I have not had much by way of sightings that have been accurate other than these two.

August 11th, 2007, 03:30 PM
Shirley,I know I have not written much anymore, but read your posts all the time, but you and Sable are always in my thoughts, together with all the other missing dogs,I am still hoping and:pray: the day will come when Sable is finally reunited with his family:grouphug:

August 12th, 2007, 09:44 AM
Not sure about the green tents...never could find them but good possibility.I stumbled on your thread while searching for information on the history of the railway that has become the Oro-Medonte Rail Trail. Did you have signs on the trail in the spring? I seem to recall seeing them. Anyway before I get your hopes up too much, I HAVEN'T seen Sable, but had an idea on the green tents thing.

During the course of my historical research, I came across other information about a property on Lake Simcoe in Hawkestone being left to the Girl Guides. They apparently have a camp on it. I haven't seen it and don't know if they have green tents or not. Here is a link that has some info on it: Ontario Council Camps ( Look down the page for the camp named 'Bonita Glen'. The web site link doesn't work, but there is other contact information.

I hope that somebody else hasn't already posted this info. I am on dial-up so didn't take the time to read through all of the numerous posts about Sable.
Good luck on your search, BTW. I had to have my good old dog Buddy put to sleep this spring so can relate to your sense of loss.

I frequent the rail trails in the Orillia area and will keep my eyes open for you.

August 13th, 2007, 07:56 AM
I had all but given up on Leon. Convinced that he had been hit by a car or crawled in a ditch somewhere to die. After talking to Claudia I have renewed hope and faith in the survival abilities of a dog. I don't think I can ever give up hope of finding him now. I had a friend write up a PSA for the local papers and we sent it by email. The fact that he was adopted from Greece adds to the human interest of the story. We are going to try and do a follow up story today.

People see to be informed about the story but still not many sightings. He is really good at hiding.

August 13th, 2007, 06:19 PM
Well my hopes are gone! The dog that everyone is calling me about in
Orillia is not Sable...the lady that owns the dog called me and apologized that her dog has gotten out so many times over the past few months..she is living with her sister temporarily and her sister has kids who keep letting the dog out. On Saturday the dog "Luke" was out and about three people were trying to catch him for being Sable.....the police were called and she had to proove ownership...her dog has one blue eye and one green eye..I've heard that before.
In my heart I guess I knew it wasn't him..he has never been used to a city environment and would on his best day be petrified.

I did however have a call yesterday from the man at Washago which would go back to the time he was seen up at Lake St. George and vanished from that area...we thought to Orillia...He has seen him several times and said he took a good look on Saturday and is positive it is him...he is in a rural area and used to raise Rotti's so he says he is not intimidated by Sable..He called just to ask how we would call Sable, other words he might know and what he would like as a treat. I have tried to contact him but only get an answering machine but he said he would try his best this week to capture him and promised he wouldn't hurt him in any way....I guess it is the only thing I have to go on at this time but better than nothing. Perhaps this might be where the green tents were????

August 14th, 2007, 02:11 AM
shirley1011 don't give up hope on Sable yet, not after everything :goodvibes:

I was so saddened to read your post re the Orilla dog not being Sable. I always keep an eye on this thread, I wish I could help w/your search I  you find him soon.

My :fingerscr for this lead to pan out :goodvibes: :grouphug: :fingerscr  :pawprint:

August 14th, 2007, 07:10 AM
Shirley,at least you can stop looking for "Luke"it must be encouraging though hearing a lot of people are looking, even called the police.
This man in Washago, asking all those questions about Sable, maybe he is the best you've heard so far..

August 14th, 2007, 07:35 AM
Another good lead brings you hope. Is this man going to leave food out for him? If this dog is running he should be cought even if he's not Sable. If he has seen him a few times, he will be cought and then you'll know either way.

Do you still feel he is with someone?

August 14th, 2007, 08:07 AM
Shirley...I'm sorry it wasn't Sable but I know that you'll find him. You've worked too hard and helped out too many people not to be rewarded with a happy ending. :goodvibes:

August 14th, 2007, 08:10 AM
Shirley, do you think that the woman that owns 'Luke' is the same person that called and hung up on you? We are all keeping our fingers crossed that this man can get Sable for you, it is coming upto the one year mark now, isn't it?

August 14th, 2007, 08:41 AM
No I really think this worman was sincere...she was very apologetic and gave me her address to come and see the dog and see the difference in his eye colour.......and yes it will be a year on Aug. 26th next weekend.

August 14th, 2007, 08:59 AM
Let's hope that he is getting so tired that he will let this man take him in. One thing that troubles me, is that you said that the man promised that he would not hurt him, was there something that led you to believe that he might?

August 14th, 2007, 10:42 AM
No there was nothing that led me to believe he might hurt him...he just said for me not to worry when he was trying to capture him he could do it so he wouldn't be harmed ...he was just reassuring me he knew how to handle dogs. For some reason even before I got the call from Orillia, I some how felt this man knows the area where Sable is.....I could never picture Sable in town.

August 14th, 2007, 02:08 PM
That's reassuring Shirley. For a minute my hackles went up. At least there is no chance of him getting hit by a car in the bush, which if he was buzzing around town and not being used to it, it could be dangerous for him.

August 14th, 2007, 03:08 PM
Shirley...lets hope this is the chance for Sable! I really thought Sable would have been found by now! I admire your loyalty!! really...I have told so many people about you!! funny how that is? we dont even know one another ! but everyone says the same thing! you are an Angel! and a very dedicated one! To be still searching and not giving up !!!

My prayers are for Sable to allow capture!! Maybe this is the man that is near the tents! maybe he hasnt been keeping Sable but maybe Sable sort of trusts him to a point?? to come around??

August 14th, 2007, 05:49 PM
I spoke with the man Tim in Washago this afternoon...he said he got to
about six feet away from this dog (not trying to convince myself it is Sable)
He said he used the phrase i gave him "lets go see Mark" and he was
coming cautiously to is near a playground...a child let out a scream and he bolted.

He says he has seen him there on a number of ocassions and will go back again tomorrow..He has offered to put up flyers for me around the area.
He seems to feel he can win this dog's trust.

It would be easy as I have said before to just give up but as long as there are leads I will follow them.

August 14th, 2007, 06:40 PM
This sounds like a promising lead and Tim sounds like a wonderful man. I hope this is finally going to be the reunion we all have been praying for. :fingerscr :fingerscr  :fingerscr

August 14th, 2007, 07:09 PM
Well this certainly sounds like a good lead. I'm going to be up near Washago this weekend at my friends cottage. Maybe I'll see something. I can bring a flyer if you would like and give it to my friend. He is there every weekend, maybe he will see somethign too?

August 15th, 2007, 07:19 AM
Shirley, this somehow sounds VERY promising, more so than any other lead or maybe I am just hoping..
It's been almost a year,if this is Sable, having survived for a year on his own,he will be deserving of HeadLines in the newspaper and you the Pet-Owner of the year for never giving up:pray:

August 15th, 2007, 08:01 AM
Thanks for all your kind word and encouragement thru this...I wouldn't have made it without you.

Carly I will email you a copy of Sable's "Wanted" poster and thank you for your would be awesome if you find him.

I have put some pictures of Sable on if anyone would like to take a look at them as I still haven't figured out how
to get the size down to post on here.

August 15th, 2007, 08:36 AM
He is a very unique looking dog and I can see why people would think he was a coyote or wolf.

I really hope this Tim guy can catch him for you   :fingerscr :fingerscr . Sounds like he is a dog lover.

I still get this gut feeling that Sable is alive and think of him everyday.

August 15th, 2007, 10:02 AM
Here you go Shirley...

August 15th, 2007, 12:06 PM
I thank you for putting on Sable's picture. That was very kind as is everyone here.

August 15th, 2007, 12:36 PM
:goodvibes: You and Sable are in our thoughts everyday Shirley. :goodvibes:

August 15th, 2007, 03:05 PM
Shirley1011 ....I wish I could do more for you! Sable certainly is a beauty!!

August 15th, 2007, 03:35 PM
Shirley,Sables pic got me all tearful again,he is a beautiful dog:sad:
I don't think there is one person on this Forum who would not be exstatic if you found Sable,I know I would,it would make my day,my month,my year!!
Beautiful Sable, mom wants you to come home:pray:

August 28th, 2007, 08:26 AM
Hi Shirley, was just wondering whether you have had any more leads?

August 28th, 2007, 10:39 AM
No Chris I have had no leads for the past two weeks. The guy in Washago seems like a "flake" not sure he even saw him. Another fellow thought he saw him but when he saw the coloured pictured said no the dog he saw was much lighter???

I have an ad in the North Simcoe News that gets delivered to the rural Barrie/Orillia areas by mail tomorrow so maybe someone in the boonies has seen him and doesn't get the local paper?

Thanks so much for your concern and having looked when you were in the Orillia area.

August 28th, 2007, 10:50 AM
Chris thanks for the lead on canadastrays...talked with Paula Kennedy who
is in Oshawa and does Norwegian Elkound rescue and she says it is in a
sheltie rescue right now but definitely not Sable as it looks like a purebred.
Thanks for the lead anyway.

August 28th, 2007, 11:15 AM
Shirley1011!! please look at this site to see if you think this could be Sable.....I thing the pic looks alot like Sable....I cant seem to upload the photo so here is the link at the Mississauga Humane Society......the dogs name is Sarge..

August 28th, 2007, 12:40 PM
Thanks for the link but this dog was a surrender and I called on him
several months ago as well as another one named Creemore who as well
was a surrender but sure looked like Sable (He is on petfinder under
german shepherd/HUSKY)

Thanks just never know where Spencer, Billie or Sable will show up.

August 28th, 2007, 12:45 PM
Oh Shirley! the picture looked sooo much like Sable...I saw that is was a surrender but you never know who may have picked him up in his travels and then maybe it did not work out and they surrender? I am so sorry to get anyones hopes up! but when I saw the picture my heart dropped! I will still keep looking!

August 28th, 2007, 02:41 PM
OMG do they ever look alike!

Sorry to hear there are no new leads, Shirley. Maybe the heat is keeping him in the woods and only coming out at night.:grouphug:

August 28th, 2007, 03:48 PM
Shirley,I saw beautiful Sable in the free Canadian Pets&Animals magazine and the sweet Bullie that was stolen..
Did you ever check in to the Indian reservation nearby(I think),often times there are packs of dogs running around, maybe Sable joined a pack?
It's now been more than a year, you are a true loving dog-owner and all your dedication and strenght, just HAS to be rewarded:pray: Come on Sable!!

September 18th, 2007, 07:41 AM
Shirley...did you ever get the phone number of that lady that called asking if you were still missing your dog? I received my phone bill but unfortunately it didn't have the phone number of the collect crank call I received. It seems like I didn't keep him on the line long enough for it to record his number.

September 19th, 2007, 06:13 AM
I did get the number but I still haven't been able to track down the person who made the call. The call came from a business that was closed on the Saturday when we went up. I spoke with a lady who called on a sighting who knew the owner of the business and confirmed that there is a lady in the little office that works for them.
I will try and go up there again on Friday and see what I can find out.
I went up to the market in Barrie last Friday to talk with the farmers but it got rained out and by then the lady in Orillia would have gone again.
I think maybe I might go and just follow her home....if she does have him she wouldn't admit it at the office and the last sighting is only a few minutes from where the call was made. The man who owns the business does not have him...talked with his son and the lady who called on the sighting says she does their landscape work and they only have a little white dog.
Thanks for thinking of him Sil...I think of Billie and Spencer everyday too and
 someday they will all be home.

September 19th, 2007, 07:08 AM
Shirley, you and Sable are always in my thoughts, you are an amazing lady for not giving up on him after all this time:angel:
One day,I am hoping to read some good news:pray:

September 26th, 2007, 10:24 AM
Have you heard anything new Shirley, did you have any luck with the business in Orillia?:fingerscr

September 26th, 2007, 12:50 PM
I still read this thread faithfully although I don't comment much. :o I still pray for a happy update one day. :fingerscr :fingerscr :goodvibes: :goodvibes: :goodvibes:

September 29th, 2007, 08:56 AM
I too read this thread everyday. I hope Sable comes home safe and sound. Keeping fingers crossed.

September 29th, 2007, 04:57 PM
OMG and every time I see this thread highlighted, I am hoping for the best. I cannot begin to imagine how Shirley feels. I am sure we will all shed a tear or two when Sable is found and reuinted with Shirley. Take care.

September 30th, 2007, 02:23 AM
Shirley, did you have any luck with the lady? :fingerscr :goodvibes:

September 30th, 2007, 10:06 AM
No...No luck....will try again this week...a helper up there got me a license # but it must be the wrong one...not the same vehicle I will go up again later this week:sad:

September 30th, 2007, 12:47 PM
:wall: :grouphug:  :fingerscr :fingerscr :goodvibes: :goodvibes:

October 2nd, 2007, 01:11 PM
:pray::fingerscr:fingerscr:goodvibes::goodvi bes: and :grouphug: to you!

October 5th, 2007, 03:08 PM
Shirley .... nothing would move us to give thanks more than if you could find Sable. I don't post often, but always check to see if you have been reuinited. Keeping fingers and paws crossed this weekend (as always).

October 5th, 2007, 03:48 PM
OMG yes, that goes for me too:pray:
Sable please come back home so I can have a party:pray:

October 5th, 2007, 06:22 PM
We would all have a party if Sable and Shirley would be reunited.:fingerscr:fingerscr:fingerscr

October 9th, 2007, 03:46 AM
Still thinking of you and Sable. :grouphug: :fingerscr :goodvibes:

October 9th, 2007, 05:49 AM
I was hoping to read that Sable had found her way home for Thanksgiving....I am so sorry that's not the case.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you, and hope Sable gets home soon:pray::goodvibes::fingerscr:dog:

October 16th, 2007, 12:08 PM
I know it's a long shot, and please don't get your hopes up, but this guy looks a little like Sable.

October 17th, 2007, 01:40 AM
I really appreciate the help everyone has given me. This one is not Sable...
Sable has a longer, darker snout...this one I think is more Elkhound.
I will never give up hope but I really feel someone has Sable as the calls have all stopped but some day he may find his way back to us with the help
of folks like the ones here at who are so may not be tomorrow or next month but whenever he will always have a home with us and he will always be in our hearts.

October 17th, 2007, 07:23 PM
aww shirley you always know what to say:)

October 30th, 2007, 09:23 PM
What about this one?

October 31st, 2007, 05:18 AM
Happycats that sure looks like Sable doesn't it! But I am pretty sure I posted that pic awhile back and she said it wasn't her boy?? Come home Sable!

October 31st, 2007, 06:56 AM
Shirley,we will never forget about Sable and you, with sooo many people looking,he will one day come home:pray:

October 31st, 2007, 08:27 AM
The dog in the infopet listing, is the one that Shirley fostered and found a home for. That infopet posting is one that Shirley put out.

October 31st, 2007, 03:59 PM
It has been a couple of months now since we have even had a call on Sable...but I just one....the caller said he saw him in the same area where the
strange telephone call came from...hmmmmmm

Wish I could get the address however, I did meet a gal on that is from Orillia and has a couple of connections and is going to try her best to
get an address for me.

Once again, thanks to all for the support and understanding thru this
hunt for Sable. If nothing else I have learned there are so many kind, and
truly generous souls willing to help animals and to just be there for us
with kind and encouraging words.

November 15th, 2007, 08:04 AM
Sable has been sighted again! The farm lady who called has been observing this animal for some time now and didn't want to alert me until she was certain. That was Monday..she called again yesterday to say she has seen him again..confirmed what she saw to the coloured pictures she saw yesterday and called again to say her hired hand had just called her after seeing the coloured picture she left for him ...he has also confirmed this is what he is seeing ....going up there now...they say they can show us where is going thru into the bush. Will leave out scent and food and this kind woman will also continue with the effort of leaving food.

All prayers gratfully received.

November 15th, 2007, 08:34 AM
Hi Shirley...I was just thinking about you and Sable!!! I hope today is the day that he can finally come home.:fingerscr:pray::goodvibes:

oh please please!! i hope it's sable:fingerscr

November 16th, 2007, 08:31 AM
We met with the farm lady yesterday and set up shelter, food and scent. This lady is a gift from heaven. She is going to put food in the shelter each morning and see if we can get him to come on a regular basis for a few days. They say he is not frightened of their atv (my son used to ride with sable for miles on one of those)
I had a call this morning that he was seen late yesterday afternoon on a farm to the north of where we have put the shelter. This wonderful lady is
putting out a flyer with all the information to call her cell to every farm and house in the area with instructions not to shoot, harm or approach Sable.
We are going up on the weekend as she has made arrangements for us to travel the fields from one concession thru to the next thru the fields and bush.
Seems like he has been in this area for about two weeks now so hope he stays a little longer till we can catch him.
I know this is not the news we were hoping for, but at least we have help now from a real true animal lover right in the area which has been the hardest part for us up until now.
Thanks for all the support and prayers....

November 16th, 2007, 08:50 AM
Oh! Shirley! This sounds wonderful! I am so glad you have finally found a true animal lover to help you out! It must be so hard to travel the distance you have been travelling....I really hope this turns out to be Sable!

Keeping you in my thoughts! and am really looking forward to the day your boy comes home to you! What a celebration that should be!

November 16th, 2007, 09:07 AM's nice to know that someone is helping you out, you've done so much for all of us that's it's your turn deserve it!!!
I can't wait to hear the Sable is safe at home...:fingerscr:pray::pray::pray:

November 16th, 2007, 11:38 AM
ohhhh , this looks good ! Getting closer and closer

November 16th, 2007, 12:12 PM
My prayers are with you. Good luck we are keeping our 28 :pawprint: crossed and 4:fingerscr for you and Sable.

November 16th, 2007, 03:24 PM
Shirley,I opened your post very cautiously, worried that once again,it would not be Sable:sad:
But it certainly sounds good and I am glad you've met a person who cares and knows about dogs.
Elkhounds is not a dog you see every day,so,this has to be
Sable,it just HAS to be and he HAS to let himself be caught:fingerscr..:pray::pray:

November 16th, 2007, 04:30 PM
Oh Shirley, like everyone else I hope this time is the end of your search, and you are reunited with Sable again. I was choked up reading your post. How wonderful you found a real pet lover who will aid you. Take care.

November 16th, 2007, 07:42 PM
I hope I hope I hope this is Sable!!! :dog: :fingerscr:goodvibes:

November 16th, 2007, 09:59 PM
Sending good vibes your way :goodvibes::goodvibes::goodvibes:.

November 17th, 2007, 01:17 PM
omg...i'M GETTING GOOSEPUMPS...My good, lucky and happy, and posiyive vibes are on their way.........XXXXXXXXXX:pray:

November 17th, 2007, 03:49 PM
Well same old, same old, we can't find him....Several folks in the area there have seen him over the past week...but he can't be found..
My son rode his ATV along the edge of the bush that runs up the middle of the concessions roads and we couldn't see even if the dog were there you couldn't see him. He has been seen 1 mile up the road which is very near a walking trail that runs for just miles. the only way I think we will ever get him is if he can lured in for food on a daily basis at the farm lady's house who is still willing to keep putting the food out...although it is still there from Thursday.
:cry:don't know if we will ever be able to track him!

November 17th, 2007, 03:59 PM
Oh no Shirley:cry:now I am in tears:cry:I think we all really had our hopes up,I wish someone could get close to him and grab him,it seems that will be the only way..

November 17th, 2007, 04:39 PM
I haven't read the entire thread but if you know the general area, go there and take a portable BBQ and cook stinky smelly hamburgers and hotdogs. It may lure the dog out to you.

November 17th, 2007, 05:47 PM
Thanks Luba..I have heard that before and forgotten it. We did that last year at Heidi's Campground but he had already left there.
We are going back up again tomorrow Sunday so I will take that stuff with me.
Just had a call from this wonderful farm lady Elizabeth who just got a call from the esatate lots that someone called to say Sable was on their back Deck on Thursday afternoon for about 4 hours. They did give him some scraps. Elizabeth has asked them not to try and catch him but to continue to put out food and call as soon as they see him again. We will go up again just in case that call comes.
We put out about 100 flyers in the area today and will take up more tomorrow.

November 17th, 2007, 05:51 PM
Shirley that is good news..but I have to wonder why hasnt someone grabbed him yet..if they are feeding him and he laid on their deck for 4 hours ?? did they get close to him?? I hope something comes from your visit tomorrow! Sending good wishes from here! Come on home Sable!!

November 28th, 2007, 03:07 PM
It's great that you have a nice lady willing to help you! I hope hope hope that Sable is captured soon!! :fingerscr Any more sightings in the last few days?

November 29th, 2007, 03:05 AM
Is Sable still going to the same farm house? :grouphug: :goodvibes: :fingerscr

November 29th, 2007, 07:22 AM
No:cry: Sable has not been back there...he was seen a little further north a couple of days later on that back deck but I don't think anyone has seen him since. We have had a couple of calls but not least we rescued one dog under a trailer that was peltered with porcupine quills that someone thought was Sable.
I feel like we are no further ahead than we were a year ago...back in the same area....the same bush and woods.
At least with the help of this farm lady who is now taking the calls if someone sees him we might have a better chance of at least locating him.

November 29th, 2007, 09:24 AM
I am so sorry, I hope so much that you get Sable back!!

I did find this ad (although you have probably already seen it)

November 30th, 2007, 05:57 AM
Happy CAts..thanks for your support...yes that ad was the foster dog that
we had for a couple of months who is now at his new forever home and just had an email this week with a picture that he is doing just great there.

November 30th, 2007, 06:44 AM
Shirley, although I am not writing every day, you,Sable,Spencer,Billy and every missing pups owner are always on my mind, with the hopes to finally read a happy home-coming post:pray:

December 8th, 2007, 08:43 PM
Saw this add on dog detective that a male Elkhound was found in Selkirk Ont .
Has Sable bee found if not could this be him?

December 8th, 2007, 11:10 PM
Hey BLB! Nice to have you back! I think we came to this board around the time that Jace went missing last year!! So sad he has never come home! That add is likely the one Shirley saw back in August..I beleive she fostered him before he went to a permanent home! Sable has been sighted up in the area he went missing..and Shirley has some people helping her! She is an Angel and has never given up hope for her boy!

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers for Sable's return. He has just vanished again....I talked with two psychics who have both told me the same thing...Sable is with an older woman with short blonde curly hair, she knows he is missing but she doesn't want to give him up. She lives in a house in a very wooded area with a lot of evergreen trees and hills around the house.
She was wearing a blue coat and was on a deck at the back of a house watching Sable and having a smoke.

My only thoughts are is that he was seen on one of his little "jaunts" and once we arrive and put out flyers he vanishes...she must see them and know we are there looking and keeps him coralled??? This is the only reason I can think that he just gets seen and then nothing...then what both phsycics from England and one from the US???

I suppose it is a good thing ...if he is with someone he is being cared for and someday, somewhere, someone will take him to get scanned and the microchip will identify him.

Once again thanks for all the support....

I am so sorry that Sable seems to have "disappeared" again. I think it's promising news though that a psychic from England and another fron the U.S. would come up with the same results for him. :thumbs up

Do any of the locals you've talked to up there know of a woman that fits this description? Is there a private detective you can hire to track her down?

Shirley,I know Sable belongs with you and your family, but it must be somhow comforting to think someone is taking care of him.
Also, chances are,if this is the case, you will eventually get him back, nobody I know have tried as hard and as long as you and your family to find your dog, there is just no way you will not get rewarded one day:pray:

OMG Shirley ..... Everytime I see this thread highlighted, I pray you have found Sable as I am sure everyone here does. I don't often post, but that doesn't mean that I don't check daily because I do. Keeping fingers and paws crossed here. Take care.

i hope sable comes home for christmas too..and I hope he brings Billie and Spencer.
Wow, your psychics are so details. Mine wasn't that detailed.
What were there names? If you don't mind me asking. It's amazing how they both told you the same thing.
Adn what a cruel woman!..If I were you, I'd probably be mean to every curly hair blonde woman I ever came across ever again haha.

December 21st, 2007, 01:41 AM Come home Sable..

December 24th, 2007, 05:34 PM
Happy Holidays to all of you at and to those of you who have given support to all of us who have lost their pets. It is wonderful to have a support group where you can get the kind words from those who truly care.
Please come home Sable, Billie and Spencer and all the others who are missed so dearly.

Im in Kitcher/Waterloo now just back from Brechin, where we passed through Orillia town square mall, I noticed a poster "Still missing" for Sable at the Zellers there...
