Yogurt

Hey so, is yogurt okay for dogs? I dropped the container on the floor, which by the way, EXPLODED EVERYWHERE!!! Before I could curse, Mocha was in there like a dirty shirt and voila! No more yogurt.

It was Danone Naturalia Vanilla flavor. He sure did like it, and he seems fine. Now, everytime I move, he runs to the kitchen expecting another explosion! What a turkey!!

But if I did want to give him a treat every now and again, should I just give him plain yogurt? This Naturalia stuff claims to be "all natural".....it is quite tasty......

Plain yogourt is fantastic for dogs (unless they have a dairy allergy). While the vanilla probably won't hurt him, it is pretty high in sugar, 6 oz of the vanilla natural danone yogourt has 25g of sugar. Which means a full tub has about 130 grams, that's a lot of sugar.

We give our dogs yogurt every morning--and twice daily if they happen to be on antibiotics (which unfortunately happens frequently at our house :frustrated:). It's like a mild probiotic. Keeps their intestines happy. :D

If you give Mocha yogurt as a treat, though, plain is best (not much sugar in it except those naturally found in dairy) and make sure it has active cultures. :thumbs up

(Don't be surprised if Mocha has some extra gas tonight or strange poops tomorrow--that was a lot of yogurt to snarf down...and a lot of extra sugar!)

Yep, I use plain yogurt. It is also very useful when mixed with banana and frozen in a kong. Provides a good 30-45 min of peace and quiet for me :thumbs up .

Keep in mind though, that if you're feeding the yogurt for its probiotic effects, they are essentially completely lost when the yogurt is frozen.

Yogurt doesn't agree with little Gomez at all... he gets the poops!

But he sure does love it, everytime I have one, he gets a teeny little lick...

Yogurt is good for most dogs as long as there are no allergies

I use it for Noid inside and out ;) makes a great moisturizing mask!

Some of the fermentation products might still be available even if the yogurt is frozen, but either way, if you want probiotics, you're better to feed probiotics.

Yogurt is fine, but be sure there are no artificial sweeteners in it. Some artificial sweeteners can cause seizures in dogs...

Well, I went to the store and picked up a small container of organic plain for him - he loves it!! Yay! New treat.

He's great today - no sign of yogurt overdose!! We went for a super long walk (his poop looks normal) and now he's racked out on the couch! What a little turkey... :lovestruck:

I'll never be able to eat yogurt in peace ever again!!

My dogs love their yogurt!! I have included that in part of their new diet and I think its a favorite.
I buy the Danone Balkan style(its got a cow on the front :D ) all natural yogurt and they really go nuts for it.
I mix it up in a small bowl with a fruit, usually apple or banana.....I have mixed it with carrots too, and then put it in their bowls and stir in a bit of kibble. Voila! Instant doggy happiness lol.

I am gonna have to try the frozen yogurt and fruit Kong trick though,Thanks Teri!!
