A walk on the windy prairie

Abby and Keeper found this setting, a cross between the prairie's and the mountains, to their liking, a soggy Abby, after a dip in a lake, sniffs the windy air with Keeper in the background, southwest of Calgary.

Abby and Keeper, below, run the windswept prairie . . .

"We have to go up there??!!" asks Abby but no, we found another way round.

A soggy but happy Keeper leans into the wind and contemplates her next adventure . . .

Below, the dead, brownish tall grass of last year bending to the wind, soon to disappear amid the new bounty of Spring . . . .

I always look forward to opening a new thread by you, Rick! Such beautiful vistas! :cloud9:

I don't know if I could get used to the openness, when I've always lived kind of hemmed in by hills and trees (and buildings and highways :frustrated: ). I'd love to try someday, though.

I lived in Kelowna, BC for a year, a lake community surrounded by hills . . . . and almost died of claustrophobia.

I love the prairie. I love driving across it in the summer and I love walking across it in both the summer and winter.

It's largely treeless where we were yesterday as well . . . . . which can be fairly eerie and beautiful. The mountains rising on one side and rolling, treeless, grasslands flowing out forever on the other.

Kind of a forlorn landscape in this batch, very beautiful. Polly looks soooo soft in that pic.

Good thing you didn't live in the Kootenays. Beautiful mountains everywhere. :cloud9:

I love Polly she is just so beautiful.
Abby and Keeper look good, dirty but good lol:D looks like they enjoyed themselves immensley as usual.

I am gonna have to agree about living on open prairie. I like the fact that our town is small enough that you can take a a 2 minute drive and see nothing but fields.
I don't have the gorgeous mountain views you do though  just flat prairie and trees, sooo many trees.
One day maybe I'll live closer to the mountains, hopefully.

More pictures please..........

Thanks for the comments . . . . . I do like the hills occasionally, evidenced by our frequent trip to the mountains, but I wouldn't want to live there. I get a little squirrelly if I can't see 20 miles.

To add some mood, the picture below was taken last Fall. The rocks photographed in the first picture at the top of this thread are on the top left of the landscape below. The canyon Abby is in in the third picture would be just out of sight, down on the other side of the slope. Keeper's "leaning into the wind" picture as well as the two running are both taken at the top of the slope below.

One of our favourite spots to walk . . . . about a 40 minute drive from the house.

And below, same place, showing how tall the grass can get in mid-summer . . . .

Beautiful pictures - as usual! But, coming from Winnipeg - you can keep the prairies... I've come to appreciate the mountains (in the distance) and the hills and trees and ocean and lakes and streams and forests... oh - yeah - and the cold!

Ooooh good shot, lucky timing on that one.
Its hard to capture interesting events like this, nature moves so quick.
Bet thats one happy goose finding a nice tranquil spot to cool her feathers.
