After the week long hunger strike, Mordekai has doing great on raw food over the last 2 weeks...he even has white poops :D

I have a question about a very unpleasant side effect of this new diet - his breat STINKS :yuck: really really bad  We don't even want him to come near...especially a sloberry great dane with a huge stinky mouth.

Any secrets? Any suggestions? :pawprint:

Something doesnt seem right there, white poops arent really what are supposed to be coming out, a sign that there is too much bone in the diet. If the poops turn white after some time outside and crumble up thats normal.

The breath could be a sign that the balance isnt quite right, im not sure, no one here has overly bad breath.

Deffinately agree with Erykah, that white poop is not good, and it means too much bone is in the diet. The bad breath may be from that, but it also may be because of detox. Bad breath is one of the common sines of detox and may last up to several weeks. It may also get worse before it gets better. I would fix the bone ratio, and if the breath is still bad, give him another couple of weeks.

yes to what erykah and puppyluv said... bone should be no more than 25% of the entire diet. sounds like tummy troubles, like when humans are not digesting properly they have bad breath. teeth are ok? no plaque or tartar? health is otherwise normal? :dog:

Sorry I wasnt clear...it takes about 3-4 days for the poops to turn white. They are ligher coloured but not white when they come out after 3-4 days they finally turn white and dissintegrate easily.

He stills hasnt gotten the hang of eating chunks of meat...so we are feeding him Mountain Dog chicken and bone. It's supposed to be balanced in terms of meat and bone. Now that it has been 2 weeks on raw, we plan on starting to introduce 'items' into his ground raw meat...a couple of chicken wings, a couple of chicken bones. But with this dog I have to go VERY slow.

He looks great. His coat is nicer. His eyes arent goopy and dont have discharge anymore. His poops are finally solid for the first time since he was brought home at 7 weeks. He doesnt have as much gas. His teeth are nice. He enjoys his food....it's just the bad breath !!

hmm try adding some broad-spectrum digestive enzymes to his meal (give tablets a few minutes before a meal). you can buy them at your local drugstore, just ask the pharmacist. that might help alot to break down and digest the food properly, and get rid of the bad breath...

how about a photo of the little guy? :p

I forgot to mention...based on all your advice I have added digestive enzymes and probiotics - 1 tablet each daily.

I really need to take pictures - we are sooo bad at taking pictures - I dont think we have anything recent. I will try to bring it to the park this weekend and will upload some shots.
