I don't think it's really a popular tourist destination, but has anyone ever been?

I just got back on Sunday from a short trip there, and I LOVED it! There's just so much history and it's so beautiful! It was really weird to stand outside the Hermitage Museum where Bloody Sunday took place, to actually see Lenin's preserved body, to visit Catherine's Palace and know that the czars had been there...just unreal. It was only ten days (more like eight when you consider traveling), and I'd definitely like to go back, it just wasn't enough time.

Here's a picture of the Kremlin and St. Basil's Cathedral:

So this picture really didn't turn out, but we were at Red Square and heard a bunch of shouting, so we look over and there were the "Old Communists" protesting for Communism! You can't tell, but the red flags had the hammer and sickle on them:

Here's a picture of the Great Patriotic War Museum in Moscow, 10 cm was added to the staff out front for every day of WWII.

The only complaint I have is the treatment of animals over there. There are strays dogs everywhere, and people don't even think twice about it! I was talking to a local about two stray dogs outside of a bank, they were howling and their muzzles were all grey, and she would just complain that they ruined the flower beds by sleeping in them. Then when I was in Red Square, I saw a huge flock of pigeons fly up suddenly, and when I looked there were two falcons chained to chairs and two monkeys dressed up for people to take pictures of...and tourists were supporting it and taking pictures! It was absolutely disgusting!

Has anybody else ever visited there? What were your thoughts?

Very pretty i'd like to go. I've heard a lot of sad things though many orphans and street children as well as neglected animals. I guess everywhere has its fair share.
