Cat owners?

April 2nd, 2004, 09:06 AM
I know tom cats will fight with each other, but do females?

April 2nd, 2004, 09:20 AM
yep! i have 2 females. It depends on a lot of things really. But there are other days they love each other to bits?

amaruq, can they get as violent as the males? Is it usually over food?

OH my! Females are often MORE territorial than males,(although their territories are much smaller) and will fight each other ferociously, although they do not inflict the sometimes fatal injuries that toms do.

Almost all my cats were males, and I had no trouble with them getting along. BUT the one female I had would instantly, furiously and without hesitation attack any female who wandered on to my property.

My two females are always fighting, they are declawed so they don't hurt each other too much, never seen any blood just a little fur. But it starts with one touches the other (mum she's touching me) then they look at each other the wrong way (mum she's looking at me) and the next thing you know full scale war. Just like two kids sound familiar.:D

Thanks guys, didn't know that. Do they sound as bad as toms do when their fighting?

I have 3 male cats and the reason being exactly because female kitties can be miserable,I might be unfair judging since I've only ever had one female, but she did not get along with any other cats, very temperamental!!!
She lived to be 18 and she definetly kept the other cats in check!!
In all my experience with cats,I find males to be more layed back and accepting.
But,I guess a cat is a cat and I love them all:)

We had two boys first. They would "fight", but usually it was pretty tame. Then, we got the "princess" Cleo. And she certainly does act like royalty. Every time we gave them their wet food (as a treat), she would give them bats with her paw....kind of like she was saying "me first, me first!". She will crouch down in front of the couch, and look underneath for Skittles to come waltzing into the living room. Then she ambushes the poor guy. She reminds me of a lioness that way. She is certainly the head of the house. She likes to sit in the back yard, never wanders. But if another cat comes along, she bolts after it without hesitation. Then she comes right back and waits for another "victim". We really want to get a puppy now (we finally own our own townhouse), but we are a little concerned about how she would react. She can be very loving, but like any female, she gets her mood swings.

I much prefer males! They are not too bright, but they are usually cuddly and loveable - always willing to be held and petted.

Females can be snooty and bitchy. They are affectionate, but usually only on THEIR terms. They are often very bright which is not always a good thing.:D

Right now we have a huge male mackerel tabby with gorgeous markings who desperately needs a home. He is bomb-proof, extremely outgoing, gentle and very very lovable.
Believe it or not, his owners took him to the vet to be killed because he had a few crystals in his urine!!!!

His name is Mr.Brown, but it should be Mr. Personality! Any takers?;)

^Wow....what a big boy he is. He looks beautiful, I shouldn't think he will have a hard time finding a home.

He looks like my Rocky!!!
Rocky,Chico and Vinnie were very offended when you said males are not smart. These guys have learned an awful lot of things, like staying in our yard with me and going inside with me when I call them. They also know how to tell the time,7am wake-up breakfast-time,snoooze until 1pm going outside time, then treat-time,playtime and snoozetime until dinner 5:30pm.
They can also talk and tell me what they want:D
Chico knows how to push down the faucet so he can drink from the tap,Rocky goes into the open drier and gets his"smelly",a drier-sheet,brings it to his basket and has a sniff time...etc...
And they all have their little weird habits....
Cookie,my one female I've ever had,was sweet and cuddly too,but like you say,on her own terms and she would swat the guys....but at the same time she was a scaredy-cat who would hide for the slightest noise.
I think I've said enough, are you ready to apologize to Chico,Rocky and Vinnie,Lucky?
:D :D :D :D :D
What treatment does poor Mr Personality require,is he going to be ok?
How can anyone look into this little(big)beautys eyes and abandon him?
I can't believe there are soooo many heartless people out there.
I wish I could take him(like all the others:( )I adore tabbys, especially big ones...

I apologize to your gang, chico! I should have said that the boys are more...ummm..."laid back". How's that?:D

The only treatment I would say that Mr.Brown needs is to be fed canned food, and to be given tons of cuddles and hugs!

Apology accepted:D
Yes,I agree males are laid back....but I still have Rockys problem to deal with,he is the most wonderful cat, plays rough and tumble with young Vinnie,he's very patient, loving and cuddly under normal circumstances..
But he still goes berserk when he sees a strange cat outside,I barely saved myself last week,I managed to close the door and get Chico and Vinnie out,I have french doors and I could watch him in all his fury,he screamed and hissed and clawed at the door eager to get to someone.
As you know I ended up in Emergency twice in about 2 yrs, with quiet severe bites and scratches.....people ask me,is he still alive?
I could not imagine having him put down,I have a very special bond with him and love him very much, but other than saving myself and shooing the strange cat away, there is not much I can do:( Do you think I am a nut case???

April 6th, 2004, 06:56 PM
Chico, if this helps, I don't think you're a nut case ;) . LOL
Nope ya just sound like you really love your cats!!!:D
