Clipping Nails.

March 11th, 2007, 04:17 AM
My little guy needs his nails trimmed but its impossible for me to do it. When he was younger he would let me but now i cant even get near him. No amount of treats or positive reinforcement gets me near his feet now. I'm thinking of taking him to a groomer to get them done and dunloading my burden on them. Any suggestions??

Get a groomer to clip them but find someone who takes more than the tips off. If you take him to a place like petsmart for nails the ones who do it are not groomers and don't tend to take enough off. If the nails are not taken back far enough the quick will continue to grow. Their nails should be done every two weeks and more often if needed if they have quick growing nails. Once the nails are clipped you can spend the time between doing handling exercises to get your puppy used to being touched with the clippers. Touch the nails several times a day with the clippers without actually clipping.
