Hey all. Actually, its not carpel tunnel. close though. A bit over three years ago I broke my arm on my quad. That took a plate and some screws to patch up, but the real damage was the nerve damage. I severed my radial nerve and stretched & bruised the median nerve. This is around the 6th surgery I've had to help me gain mobility. I've had my wrist fused, and some tendon & muscle transfers. This last one connected my thumb tendon to my other fingers to help me open my hand wider and also attached my pointer finger tendon to my ring finger so it would bend when i made a fist :thumbs up

Sorry to all the folks grossed out. I honestly didnt think it looked so bad lol.

LOL!! One of my boyfriends was in a motorbike accident almost 2 years ago and lay unconscious and on fire until help came. Burn scars are ugly to say the least (fugly applies here), but they never bothered me. Sometimes I would look at them and see a duck, or a boat or something (sort of like looking for pictures in the clouds).

He's my little Mikenstein (bummer his name isn't Frank lol)! :lovestruck:

That's pretty intense surgery. I assume you're taking advil (or a pres. med) to keep any inflamation down?

Scott_B

hopefully this is the last surgery. We're into the tweeking stage to get more function out of my hand.

As for pain, its pretty tendor right now, but not too bad. The nerve pain is most bothersome.

Here is a few weeks after I did it.

wow scott, i had no idea you were robo-dad! :grouphug: looks very painful... did they revoke your modeling contract when you started sprouting appliances from your hand? :D

Scott_B
February 16th, 2007, 01:26 PM
Actually, it wasn't too bad. As I laid in the ditch waiting for the ambulance, the worst I though was how crappy its gonna be to have a cast on my arm. Never realized the extent of the damage. Hell I spent a week in hospital while they ran tests to figure it all out.

Again, pain, it hurt, no doubt, but the nerve pain was unreal!

Techno, I was only allowed t model with other appliances, vacuums and such lol :p

You know a funny thing happens when you have an accident. I was hit by a car when walking across a cross walk 5 years ago. After being hit, someone carried me out of the way and put me in a car waiting for the ambulance. All I could think about was the fact that my pants were wet, and I was tired. I kept telling everyone I just wanted to go home and go to bed. You never do realize how bad it is until after it is over.

Yeah. I was pretty coherent. I knew first aid and wouldn't let my friends take my helmet off because of a possible neck injury. Didn't want to take that chance. I knew my arm was broke as you could feel the bone sticking out. Although I had my buddy help me take my tongue ring out because i thought someone once told me they can refuse you morphine if you have a tongue ring. lol How crazy is that

Seeing I am from the older generation, what is a QUAD???
Stitches don't bother me,my son had 2 open-heartsurgeries..lots of stitches!
If a Quad is a motor-bike,you were lucky you got away with only a broken arm,I know of 2 young people who died in motor-bike accidents..

Scott_B
February 16th, 2007, 02:39 PM
A quad is an ATV or a 4 wheeler.

I thought i had my "other picture" on this PC, but I don't. I'll post it later :thumbs up

This is my hip. When they fused my wrist they took bone marrow from my hip. My hip actually hurt worse then my wrist lol

Thanks for asking, Chico! I didn't know what a quad was either.. I was all, "Wow, his legs must be buff for him to break his arm against them..." :D

Pretty gruesome, there Scott... Scars aren't the same as fresh cuts... Fresh cuts set off that nurtury response... Doesn't make you look like a hero yet... :D

I have to admit in my profession I have seen worse! Much much worse. I hope you heal well tho!

And I am not a lady! <g> Woman, maybe Madam or chick, NO!! lol (I can understand why the Dixie Chicks all themselves that but the feminist in me refuses to allow myself to like it when ppl call me that and when anyone call me me lady I look to see if my mom or grandma is around, lol - it is like OMG, I am not THAT old am I?)

I know you mean well tho. :)

Wow, that looks super painful! Scars don't bother me much, but the fresh stitches kinda get me.:o

ok, here is my hand.

Basically they took the muscle in your palm that while looking at your hand open faced, if you spread your pinky finger away from the ring finger, well they attached that to my thumb, So when i flex that muscle, my thumb moves towards my my pinky. If that makes sense :p

Doesn't gross me out, but makes me think of all the physical therapy you're going to need later on....

I have a friend that was in a MVC back in November (head on, other driver was killed). She broke both of her feet, and her X-rays look similar to yours.....yikes!! Anywho, where I'm going with this is, now, she's walking (with a cane), and is back to work, so it's quite amazing how the human body can heal itself after such traumatic events.

All the best for a speedy (and relatively pain free) recovery :thumbs up
