i'd guess at a chow or chow mix as well...if a purebred, it looks in rough shape.

Please do some research before blindly deciding on a chow or chow mix. They can be difficult to train for first time owners and have a sadly bad rap on BSL lists. So they need responsible educated owners to help the breed. Look alone isn't a good reason to purchase a dog.

I agree. A chow is definitely not a gift.

No animals should be given as gifts. Unless both parties understand completly what they're getting, you could be looking at trouble.

looks like a Chow Chow to me as well. Might have been shaved though as the coat looks not as full as it should. I second what others have said, please research this breed and that dogs/puppies are generally not a good gift, although there are exceptions.

Most of the Chows I have known I was not well acquainted with and noticed they bark a lot and can be aggressive. My aunt had one that was very sweet and mild mannered, though. I think my own dog could be a chow mix and he's a sweetie. It's just a guess though. You could try the petfinder link to find a mix, which could look a lot like a purebred, but possibly w/ a more even temperment, depending on the mix. There's an option to search by breed and many of the dogs pics are posted.

Looks like a Chow to me or a mix, a friend of mine has a chow & he has lost most of his coat due to a skin problem & his skin is black as well, her vet told her this was a comon thing in this breed.
