...because Duke is just sprotuing like a weed!!! He turned 6 months old yesterday and currently weighs 47 pounds and is 22-23inchs measuring from the ground up his front leg to his shoulder!

Training and everything else has gone wonderfully and I still can't believe what a focused puppy I have. He graduated puppy school at 3 months of age and is now going back to basic obidence next week. Originally I only planned on doing basic obidence and then starting agility; however considering he just loooves to work in ever sense of the word i've decided to do all three levels of obidence with him as well as agility.

At home he's wonderful with all of my other pets and adoores our two cats even though they hate him and try and kill him any time he walks by. Max our big alpha cat can walk up to him when he's eating and Duke will look over and run to the living room and lie down with his head on the ground submissively until max finish's sniffing his food. He also enjoys watching all of the reptiles in their cages and I occasionally bring them out for him to sniff ( he's always kept on harness and lesh just incase) and he cocks his head to one side while wagging his tail as if to say, "thats one wierd looking dog".

I have been bringing him to puppy socalization classes for the last 3 months and have seen wonderful improvement in his temperment around other dogs. He's now much more calm around most dogs and went from growling whenever other puppies at the class ( especially the labs because their so silly) would try and jump on him or lick his face, to actually meeting other dogs on his own and sniffing them and then he likes to walk around with them for ahwile and then he wanders off especially the larger ones ( even though he outgrew all of the other puppies a month ago) . He dosen't really try and play with them not in the sense that I see most dogs play but I can just tell by his body langauge his much more relaxed and at ease, he just dosen't have much intrest in them.

It's a little odd I suppose as all of the other puppies look like their having so much fun and he just dosen't want to partake in it, but I guess it's ok because he has lots of fun with me and his one best dog friend that he actually plays with that belongs to my best friend so it works out.

Here's a little photo chain of Duke from age 9 weeks up until now so everyone can see what I'm talking about his ridiculous speedy growth

Age: 9 weeks old, Weight: 14.5 pounds

Age: 11-12 weeks old, Weight: 26lbs

Age: 16 weeks old, Weight:35-36lbs ( yes he actually had a 9-10lb growth spurt in the period of 5 weeks)

Age 20 weeks old, Weight:42lbs ( Gypsy is the only dog Duke will rough house and play with)

Age 24 weeks old, Weight: 47lbs (yes thats the same table from early shots, it measures 21'' and he's taller then it)

Thanks for looking

awe... hims a cutie! :lovestruck: do you know his parentage? :lovestruck:

it's scary sometimes how quickly they grow, isn't it? the biggest growth spurts in large breeds occur from 4 to 7 months, in general. by 1 year of age they normally have attained 90 to 95% of their adult height, but continue to fill out and mature for another 2 to 3 years, depending on the breed (giant breeds follow different growth patterns i believe).

to give you an idea, at 6 months of age dakotah was 72 lbs and 24" tall at the withers. His adult height is 28" now but he's still filling out at 3 years of age... up to a lean 128 lbs now. He'll probably top off at 135 lbs at around 5 years of age, no fat allowed on our boy only muscle :p

But really you can never tell, even with purebreds. Your boy could turn into a horse or he may reach his adult stature quickly and not grow too huge. but just in case... better buy a saddle, ha ha! :p

Thanks for the replies guys:), I bought him as a Rotti/GSD/Collie mix so I'm guessing maybe he'll be a tall 70-90lb dog? I don't mind if he gets bigger then that as I loove giant breeds but he'll be perfect to me no matter how he turns out.

Actually as far as the cats go, I don't think their afraid of him, the female maybe still a little bit but Max knows he's boss of the house and just dosent like having to share the attention he gets with some mongrel ( lol or at least max would call him that if he could speak).

He is beautiful! Sydney grew at a similar rate, about 2 lbs a week, untill she hit 6 months old. Since then, it has slowed down tremendously, only 2 lbs in the last 6 weeks. Isn't it fun to wonder how big our babies will be when they are all grown up?

What a cutie!

We got Boo when he was 75lbs and he grew about a foot taller and only gained 15 more pounds...

You just never know.:D

according to this chart I use (dead on with my dog) he should weigh roughly 80 pounds at 18 months.

Thanks for posting that chart Melinda:) I really hope he gets 80lbs I looooove large breed dogs. My vet kept telling me he would only get 50lbs so maybe she'll change her mind when she sees him on the 26th when he goes in to get snipped. I will of course keep everyone updated especially when he starts basic obidence and let everyone know how that goes.

Horse indeed!

My golden gained only 8 lbs from 8-12 months, and after exercise (when the rain finally stopped), he slimmed down, but gained another 2lbs. He's now 59lbs, at 14 months old.

Dogs all grow at different rates, but this might give you an idea of how the growth slows down around 8 months old.

By the time he's 2, I expect him to reach 65lbs.

My lab/boxer x is around 85 lbs and tall and fit. I don't find him that big ?? But I love all those giant breeds, so I guess that this is smallish compared to some other dogs I know!
