Former Kamloops Breeder Receives Lifetime Ban On Owning Animals

A former dog breeder and member of the dog show community in Kamloops has received a lifetime ban on owning animals after she pled guilty to causing distress to 32 animals in her care.

BC SPCA special constables seized 18 long-haired Dachshunds, six cats, five Leonbergers, two cockatiels and one Mastiff from Judd's home and property near Barriere on April 6, 2006. The animals were in various states of distress due to lack of food, water, veterinary care, appropriate shelter and grooming.

This week Judd was sentenced to a lifetime ban on keeping animals, 18 months probation and was ordered to pay the BC SPCA $11,800 in restitution for veterinary and care costs. The animals were cared for at SPCA shelters in Kamloops and Vernon and have since been adopted into loving homes.

Wow! Wish we had those laws here in Quebec! The most our lovely lady from the St. Mathieu seizure would have to pay is $2000, and a ban from owning animals for up to 2 years, and that is if she is proven guilty and given the maximum sentence. Here in Quebec, the laws suck, and there is even a chance she could get her dogs back, imagine that!

We should make them "move" the trial to Vancouver. :o

I am very happy about the dogs and that she can't own animals EVER but i think SHE should have gotten a worst penalty, besides a fine and a lifetime ban. !!

Actually, this is the first time I've seen a sentence like this in B.C.
