Just thought I'd post a few pictures of Gracie (for those who haven't been following the 'capturing a cat' thread. )

A quick synopsis on Gracie. We noticed this little girl curled up under our front window trying to stay warm (and alive) a little over a week ago. This past Monday we were able to get hold of her and brought her inside to get warm and some food into her belly. We took her to the vet that night to get her checked over. Other than being very skinny (5.3 lbs) and a wound that had abseced on one leg, she is fairly healthy. Blood work all came back negative, temperature was normal, and no other major issues (she is favouring her back right leg and walks with a bit of a limp).

She is guesstimated to be around 6 mos old. She is a beautiful, affectionate little girl. We are now in the process of introducing her to our two dogs.

Short answer: More than likely. Although we were not actively looking for a cat, Gracie was looking for a home with warm blankets and good food. After all she has been through, she needs a nice comfortable life, which we are going to do our best to provide. Her appearance is quite timely as a few weeks ago my wife comments that she missed seeing Monty (our oldest pup who we lost to a tumour back in Oct) and his colour combination on the couch. Monty was black with a white front and white paws.

We are now working on getting Gracie used to Jack and Lucy, and vice versa. The have met each other from each side of a closed door. Over the past couple of nights the excitement level of the dogs has been significantly reduced.

Here are a few more Gracie pics that I took last night. She is starting to put on a bit of weight since last Monday. While she is still quite skinny, she is starting to get back to normal. Her absece is starting to heal. Her back leg limp is still present, but appears to be getting better daily. :thumbs up

We are planning to begin the visual introduction process with the dogs today. :fingerscr

She looks like she fits in just right...she looks comfy. Congratulation on your new kitty:thumbs up

January 27th, 2007, 12:00 PM
Wow, she looks really good in such a short time. She looks more soft and healthy for sure!

Let's see, you've got Twister, The Ghost and the Darkness, Harry Potter (I think), A Clint Eastwood movie, Heat and Casino. :D

January 27th, 2007, 12:13 PM
Nope, no Harry Potter! Clint movie is Heartbreak Ridge, Star Wars triolgy (one of three versions I own). It's the video shelf that rarely gets touched now. We're slowly converting all of them to DVD. :D

We did a 10 min face to face a couple of hours ago which went not too bad. The dogs were much better than I had expected. Quite a bit of whining from them because they could not get close but no barking or growling. We had Gracie in Lucy's crate with a blanket from both Jack and Lucy. We covered the crate on all sides but one with the blanket she has been laying on. She layed down in the middle of the crate and eyed them both suspiciously but did not hiss or try to hide.

All in all it was a good 1st meeting!!

January 27th, 2007, 01:53 PM
:highfive: Good luck for meeting #2. :fingerscr

January 27th, 2007, 03:16 PM

Things are going well with Gracie. We are still in the intitial phases of introducing her and the pups. We have been working on getting them used to each other using a baby gate. Unforturnately it seems to be stressing the dogs out worse than Gracie - lot of whining and crying.

Last night we took a different approach. My wife took Jack out for a walk and I took Lucy upstairs into the room Gracie was in (Lucy on a short leash). No whining or crying from Lucy, she laid down and stared at Gracie, tried to get close enough to sniff her tail, but was generally very good. Gracie gave her a few little growls and hisses, but only when Lucy's nose got a bit to close for her comfort.

We then repeated the process with Jack and had basically the same results (Jack was a little afraid of her and didn't want to get to close front on, he kept trying to get around to sniff her tail without her seeing him).

We came home this evening to find that Lucy threw up in quite a few places around her room. Some of the 'contents' looked like foreign objects that she must have tried to eat in her travels as there has been nothing for her to get into since she has been in the house.

All in all she is doing well and looking good.

Aww,that's great to hear, good luck with her and the doggies:fingerscr :dog: :cat:

February 1st, 2007, 06:49 PM
Gracie had another throw up session last night. Came to discover that the 'foreign object' that I saw earlier in the evening was not a small elastic which I originally thought but rather roundworms (we had a large group of them writhing on the carpet :yuck: ). We picked up some meds from the vet this morning to clear them up (also picked some up for the dogs ... yesterday at lunch they decided that the garbage bag outside that we've been keeping her litterbox waste in should be pulled apart and have the contents checked out. :yuck:

Today she is doing great with no barf to be had.

Here are a couple more pics of her sporting her new collar (will be posting some Jack and Lucy pics on the weekend ... they are starting to be neglected in the picture department!)

February 1st, 2007, 07:08 PM
 i hope none of the "elastic bands" got around to explore the other rooms in the house:yuck:

Gracie looks good:thumbs up

February 1st, 2007, 07:32 PM
I think the critters were all contained in the one room, but to be safe we're going to give the upstairs a good cleaning. The first 'elastic' I noticed was about 1" long and really looked like an elastic. No mistaking the second ones. They are pretty wierd looking creatures.

February 1st, 2007, 07:39 PM
Cute little collar , how is it going with the doggies ?

February 1st, 2007, 07:46 PM
Things are going slowly but surely with her and the pups. They really want to get close to her and give her the sniff once over but she will have none of it. She's quite comfy in the confines of her room (she has yet to venture out of the room during the day when the dogs are crated).

However, she is not trying to hide from them. She will sit in the middle of the room and stare them down ..... behind the safety of her baby gate!

February 1st, 2007, 07:49 PM
Oh yes, cats are good behind gates ! Once the dogs get a goo sniff, it will be allright :thumbs up I can't wait to see pics of them all together :cat: :dog:

she's fighting for the upper paw of the house on her own terms
But i read somewhere that it's good when the cat doesn't run away because then the dog has nothing to chase.:thumbs up

February 1st, 2007, 08:06 PM
Awwwwwwwwwwww, Gracie is doing so well ("electric bands" considered - I am sure the vet's treatment will clear those up. They are not fun to look at but fortunately should be easily gone.)

She is such a cute girl - and she looks happy and serene. You can almost tell she went from . "Whew, I have found someone who loves me, they love me, they really do!" And I love them." in the 1st pix to "I love it here and this is my home. This is mine and oh how happy I am!". You can see the confidence gleam in her eyes!!

Not that I am in training to be a cat listener or anything but she just has that "happy and contented" look cats who have good homes display!

You are doing so well with her!! Congratulations!! :thumbs up And I think she'll add something to your family too - bet the dogs will come around! They sound like they are doing well already!!

Go Gracie!!!!

I think of Grace O'Malley, the Irish heroine who fought off scores of soldiers and saved her clan!

Love the bookcase!! When I was growing up - and I am afraid it is still true today (some things never change, lol) - my mother would ask me what so and so's house looked like and I'd report, "Hmmm... not sure but I can tell you what books they have." What can I say - I am a bookophile. Now, it;s books, CD's and movies, lol We've moved to multimedia.

Great Minds think alike - and what is they say about Karma? Gracie has it,I am sure, :) She has found a wonderful home and looks like a truly super and very intelligent kitty. You just have to look in her eyes.

The spirit of Grace O'Malley lives on in each of us Cyberkitten (it's just nice to see it passed to a cat !!).

Hello there! I was reading through some posts today and was taken back for a second when the posting came up for a lost cat in Ille Perrot Quebec...when I saw the cat I was sure it was Gracie! honestly..until I compared the 2 pictures....then of course I realized both people are living far apart! but the resemblance is pretty close! (except the nose color!) it could be Gracie's brother or sister!!

By the way I dont think I have ever seen such a wondeful transformation in a cat/kitty! she is home I hope you know! and your doing a great job!!

February 2nd, 2007, 04:40 PM
I'm glad that it wasn't her .... cause I don't know if I would give her back now!

She has recently decided that my office chair is a great thing to sit on; we think she spent the night and all day today on it rather than on her comfy blankets. The pups are getting used to seeing her in her room. They have made a couple of aborted attempts at getting over the gate, but always back off. I am hoping to get a picture of them looking over top of it. They look so sad and pathetic.

We are going to rejig my/her room this weekend to find a place for a small bed and scratching post. Looks like my office is now a multi-use room. :)

Yay! im so glad that Gracie has made herself at home and that she has settled so well! The dogs seem to be doing well! yove done a great job! :thumbs up
