During wintertime, when we are both out of the house, we'd like to save some energy by lowering the thermostat. Of course we don't want to endanger our 3 adult cats. So how far down can we set the temperature without making them miserable, or worse, sick?

I don't know- I think it depends on the kitty/doggy. I don't go below 17 C because I just find it too untolerable for me... And I know the longer my doggies stay at 17, the hotter they'll be at 21 when I'm home.:o

They're probably OK but if it bothers you, get some heating pads. My cats LOVE them. They have to be well covered with several thicknesses of towel or blanket and always always set on LOW (I actually tape the controls to avoid accidents), their little tummies burn more easily than you would think.

I turn the thermostat down every night and the temperature is about 16 Celsius when we get up in the morning. The cats have always been fine.
