Liver treats

Mocha loves these crazy things. Helps me train him to walk on the ramp :D

Take beef liver, rinse. Place in pot with water to cover, boil for four minutes. Drain water, rinse and cool liver. Cut into whatever size you would like. Bake in 300 degree oven for two hours or until crunchy.

Yum...:rolleyes: I don't like liver, but Mocha sure does!!

I thought about doing that but was worried the house would reek from the baking. Does it?

The liver smell is there but not as bad a cabbage, it's usually gone in a few minutes, however I never bake to crisp as I also add garlic (and now ginger) but beware, too much liver can give your :dog: the squits. i learned that lesson the hard way :D :sad:

Thanks....that's a good alternative to the easy salmon treats recipe I usually make.

I have to say, I've tried making those and found they were more hassle than they were worth considering you can get fairly 'pure' ones from the pet store that are easy to break into small pieces (for those of us with wee pups) and don't take as much prep time.

(ok, somaybe I'm lazy, and really can't stand the smell of cooking liver, even if it goes away quickly)

Someone just told me that soaking liver in milk for a few minutes will remove the urine smell when cooking. I haven't tried it yet but sounds great if it works. I hate the smell and only make it for the dog treats even though the rest of the family likes it.

Well, I'm not going to lie to does make the house stink. But I am the queen of Glade Apple Cinnamon candles so that seems to help. I also get hubby to cook something super smelly afterwards......crazy garlic stir fry or something curry :D

But beware...there will still be some residual odor in your oven...

300 degrees for two hours with sliced liver ?????? You might want to check your oven. That temp is way too high. The boiling is meant to get the most of the blood and the etc. out of the liver but, after that you should be just drying it, which means a much lower ie. 150 f. temp. If you end up with a lot of blackened stuff ~ and liver blackens easily because of the blood content ~ this is no good.
