I have an elderly cat, 17+ years old. He has arthritis but is otherwise in good health. Just last week, the vet gave him high marks. He has no signs of kidney problems, thyroid problems. He does have high blood pressure and is being treated for that.
For the last few days, he has been gagging from time to time, and brings up nothing but a little saliva. I noticed on Sunday that he was sounding hoarse (he is normally very vocal). Last night, the gaggin continued, but he has completely lost his voice. He attempts to meow, but nothing comes out. I felt his throat for swelling, lumps, etc. but didn't detect any.
Any ideas? (We'll take him to our favorite cat vet tomorrow, just wanted to see what the forum could contribute.) Thanks.
