black mouth

I know that my dog is a basenji mix, the basenji in her is obvious!, but she has black on the inside of her mouth. Not so much on her tongue as on her cheeks and stuff, its just like heavily speckled. I know that chows have black on the inside of their mouth but i dont think that she has chow in her, so are there any other breeds that tend to have black mouths?

Interesting article, maybe my dog is not a Chow mix! He looks like a small flat-coated retriever but does have sort of a shorter tail that tends to curl up some. He's got black spots on his tongue so I have been telling everyone he's a Chow mix.

Airedale, Akita,

false for the akita. a dark SPOT will sometimes appear on a tongue but it is rare, it is a breed fault and frowned upon. there is no record of a purebred akita with a black tongue. :dog:

Ive seen the pics of the spotted tongue on Newfs; Never noticed if it matched the mouth within.
