Stupid BSL. We just had a story in our local paper (we have no BSL here) about the stats on dog bites. Pit bulls were about 12th on the list of the breeds that had bitten.

For McAllister, her only hope now is to prove to the city her dog is not a pit bull. So far, the three veterinarians she has approached have all said he is.

So the vet can just look at him and tell he is?

I wouldn't trust my vet to identify ANY breed. He has no idea what breeds my mutt is, and isn't qualified to identify breeds in the first place. A vets only job is to diagnose and treat animals.

Also, many bully breeds (such as American Pit Bull Terriers) don't have a strict breed standard as far as looks, unlike other easily identifiable breeds such as collies, dalmations, english bulldogs, etc.., so many of these dogs can only be identified as purebreds by registration with organizations like AKC/CKC/UKC and a known pedigree where parents/grandparents etc. have been shown or competed and the dogs are from a reputable breeder.

Too many people think stocky+big head= "pit bull".

Stupid BSL ~ yes.

But, what was this dog's person thinking ? She registered her dog as a pitbull ~ how could she possibly think she is exempt from the legislation ? Her excuse that she believes her dog is only 1/4 bully with no bully traits is irrelevant and completely transparent.

Regrettably yet another animal must pay the ultimate price for a stupid and irresponsible human action.

In registering him as a Bullie and not having him neutered:confused: she is breaking the law and the poor dog will suffer the consequences.
As stupid a law as most of us think BSL is,was it my dog,I would comply with every rule there is,to make sure this sort of thing never happened, even if he was only 1/4 bullie.
What really is sad,is the number of dogs that have been abandonned and euthanized:sad:

Why cant they giv e her a "grace period" to get the dog nuetered if they did it for others???
Im gglad that the article mentions that the bill is being bfought and some ACs are being more cautious about "putting down" dogs while the verdict is being decided but it makes you wonder if they (AC) w ont be more aggressive in pursuing "bulllies" if we lose:eek:
