For me, Puppy had just been diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia and I came here looking for anyway I could help him out on my own ( after he was prescribed his meds from the vet)

What bout you????

November 28th, 2006, 10:18 PM
For me it was a first aid kit. And about a year or so after that, I finally got a paying email so I could bust into this place.:D

November 28th, 2006, 10:28 PM
I had found a little dog and came across this site to post an ad; this was about two years ago and since then, I read posts every night!

November 28th, 2006, 10:33 PM
i'm ashamed to say i don't remember :o but i'm so happy to be here, it has become a "home" of sorts :D

November 28th, 2006, 10:35 PM
I was doing a search on something totally unrelated and just happened to get a 'hit' back on a thread from I came in to answer someone's question and then stayed...

November 28th, 2006, 10:49 PM
Actually my first time here wasnt very good on my part - but I have since learned a valuable lesson and hope I am accepted now :( :o :)

November 28th, 2006, 10:50 PM

November 28th, 2006, 10:52 PM

November 28th, 2006, 10:55 PM
When I look back though and see your name now, you were definitely meant to be a JECM.;)

November 28th, 2006, 11:02 PM come I always miss the juicy bits ! Sigh... just not meant to be a shameless gossip am I.

Hmmm... I was looking for some info about one of Ceili's gazillion health probs I think. Or no, wait that's not right. I think I had just adopted Declan and as looking for moral support (HELP !!! ) with him, Bridie's complete hatred for him and coping with a multiple big dawgy household (aka petting zoo, aka fur farm aka the revolving door of walkies).

Happy anniversary to TD, Erykah & me !

November 28th, 2006, 11:03 PM
I actually looked up "Foxhounds" and pets came up after the tenth page or so:p I remember the post it came up with was 4 or so years old and everyone told the OP that she had a beagle not a foxhound (which was exactly what I didn't want to hear LOL)... :D

November 28th, 2006, 11:05 PM

whats a buddy lust??

November 28th, 2006, 11:17 PM
I was looking for dog parks to take Bowser to, and this was one of the only ones I could find in english.

I stayed because I was amazed that there were soo many people that felt the way I do about my pet. I finally felt like I found people that would understand and that's so hard to find in this world that I had to sign up.

November 28th, 2006, 11:21 PM
whats a buddy lust??You really want to know? Reerr...

I dunno- I've never put anybody on mine for fear of being bound to them forever.:D

November 28th, 2006, 11:22 PM
whats a buddy lust??

Ummm struggles to keep a straight face... buddy lust?

Gee, Erykah, I can't imagine what that might be. I know, let's start a thread about it ! I'm sure someone must know

November 29th, 2006, 12:16 AM
Tee least she didn't spell buddy "boddy". :D

November 29th, 2006, 12:18 AM
I came here because I was looking for Canadian dog food companies that didn't use menadione sodium bisulfate in their ingredients.

November 29th, 2006, 12:28 AM
I was looking for pet forums.. I found one hot headed one, and wanted uh better.

November 29th, 2006, 12:29 AM
Looking for the fabulous expertise of the food gurus.

ps Thanks for all the food help you actually gave me before I even joined up.

November 29th, 2006, 12:45 AM
I believe I found pets looking for dog parks.

November 29th, 2006, 12:47 AM

November 29th, 2006, 12:51 AM

November 29th, 2006, 01:27 AM
Yes. Yes I am. :D Actually, no, I'm so spaced out after all this doggy excitement.:D

I've been thinking about it and I'm glad JECM's still here. She signed on at a bad time when people had their flame throwers set to high all the time, and she stuck around.:cloud9:

November 29th, 2006, 01:46 AM
You should honor her in a thread like i did with Chico2. That would really make her feel special prin. ;)

I found a kitty and didn't know what to do with him. I had never had a kitty before and I didn't know anything about cleaning him or worms or anything. I knew he needed to go to a vet, but I didn't know what to do with my house until we found him a home/rescue. I seriously wanted to keep the kitty, but honey wouldn't let me. He was my favorite -- orange.

November 29th, 2006, 06:15 AM
I joined a long time ago looking for information about Hunter's chronic ear infections. Then I didn't really get into the forum thing, just dropped by every once in a while, to ask for advice, or check out some information. Then last year I started coming by more regularly, and now I'm hooked, lol:o

November 29th, 2006, 07:17 AM
I heard about this site through an Xfriend, who reluctant to go to a vet asked about her OUTDOOR Great Dane/HuskyX(99% Great dane)who had a nasty sore on her neck.
I am not sure what anyone suggested, but certainly not to have the dog pts, like she did:sad:
Then I had problems with Rocky, who seriously attacked me and got some great advice, from some great people.
Also,I always thought I was a bit nuts about animals, maybe a bit abnormal, but have since learned there are sooo many nuts out there,I am not alone:thumbs up

November 29th, 2006, 07:30 AM
I was looking for dog parks in Ontario too... found the main site. Don't remember what brought me to the bulletin boards.

But... glad that I did!

November 29th, 2006, 07:49 AM
I had just adopted my pup (a basenji-x), and was looking for other basenji owners (didn't find many here, in fact, I think there was only 1 when I joined!). Regardless, I'm very glad I did find this site, as it's become a very dependable source for information & other's experiences.

November 29th, 2006, 09:07 AM
Absolute terror at owning something small and furry that breathes.

I'm serious....

Never had a pet before this (the hampster doesn't count!) and I had no idea what the heck I was doing with Leo! lol

Oh well all is good in the world of the kitties...

I must upload that other picture of Dart in the recycling boxes later....its rather funny to see....:)

November 29th, 2006, 09:16 AM
I belong in all sorts of forums for all sorts of things as I found them to be useful. So when I got Hunter, I looked for a pet forum so I can learn about things you can't read in that IKEA dog

Aaaaanyhow, the posts were really fun to read and reply to so I come here everyday now to impruf my inglish skillz.

November 29th, 2006, 09:47 AM
I believe I joined when I was looking for information/support when Harley came down with Blastomycosis in Jan 2006. I stayed around for a while, but due to circumstances, felt it was better to leave for a bit.

Now I am (sort of) back, just doing some research on various issues and of course posting pictures of my two doggies!

There is definitely a lot of great information on this site!

November 29th, 2006, 10:03 AM
Mine was easy, I was looking for the majic formula to find out what breeds my boy was, I found out it doesn't work that way. So then I thought I'd do a search to see how good the food I had him on was (good job I was sitting down), apparantly not many rated Iams  as the quality food I believd it was. After that I just got to hanging around, I stopped researching new engine parts for my race car and started at looking at training and nutrition for my buddy. I lurk more than post but your stuck with me here now.:thumbs up

Joey was diagnosed with a herniated disc. It just didn't sound right to me. Even after a second opinion. He seemed too sick for it to be a herniated disc. So I posted here and got some wonderful advice. We actually were able to get an animal chiropractor to the house thanks to a suggestion from one of the members here. And that did give him some relief and led us to the correct diagnosis.

I wish I had been wrong, but my instincts were correct. He had cancer and we lost our poor grumpy baby. (The first two years of his life were most likely horrific. But for 5 years he was pampered and spoiled and loved no end !)

I stayed on the boards because now we have Cooper. And if he were a human baby you would all be his godparents. I don't know what I would do without the education I'm getting here !

November 29th, 2006, 02:36 PM
I joined looking for information on Peaches (I think - oh gawd I can't recall properly), as she was having intermittent trots that weren't constant and weren't food related. Turned out later she had a blockage from having eaten a curtain tie that only partially digested in 7 months (dog's got sllloooowww motility). I came back when it was Simon's turn (dilute urine, very basic, lots of it, no known reason lol), and stayed cuz the community is just so interesting and diverse (and fun to post around) :)

November 29th, 2006, 04:02 PM
trying to find information on how long cats were pregnant (i'm sure u've all read about my patty cake and her litter) and i'd come around every once in a while for advice on the litter and to help answer questions. Kinda butted my nose into the TJT but i don't think everyone hates me completely..... i'm just young and not very smart... did i mention american? :p  :D

November 29th, 2006, 04:35 PM
I found this site a couple months after adopting Angus and Finn, I think I was looking for advice on toilet training them. I was told not to do it. We didn't do it. Since joining I have become very annoying to other people who own pets and aren't doing things right (the way).

November 29th, 2006, 04:36 PM
I was looking for help when I got Candi and she was soiling her crate. Got some great advice and decided to just stay around. I guess I lurk more than I post, but it's because most times I really don't think more needs to be added to a thread once I get there because all the advice I would have gave was already given. guess I just never get here fast enough lol.

November 29th, 2006, 05:17 PM
2 years ago when i got my gsd and needed help i went to and found this website, almost got scared off ,but now realize why people can get mean, because now i so.

November 29th, 2006, 06:01 PM
I found this site when I googled Lost and Found in Canada....I lost my little Misty somewhere between BC and Ontario and was hoping to get in touch with as many people as I could...But she is still MIA...but I stuck around...hoping and then it became an addiction...then you get to know people and start caring and then its hard to get off...:yell:

November 29th, 2006, 06:04 PM
I find out about from other people of the rescue.

November 29th, 2006, 06:36 PM
hihihi people of the rescue....I love it! It's like children of the corn...except with people...and with rescue!!

November 29th, 2006, 06:38 PM
ooops! :D forgot to answer the question!

I first came here looking for info on pointers and boxers (we weren't sure which to get). Then I discovered the bulletin board ( was my first :o )

I've learned so much since I first came here 2 years ago....:thumbs up

November 29th, 2006, 07:38 PM

I was looking for message boards related to german shepherds and stumbled across this one. I think I lurked for several months before I joined in. I have learned so much about how to be a better doggy mom from everyone here! Even my husband hears me rave about this place and joined up, though he hasn't posted much. He has a crappy computer. :( Wish I could get him a new one. Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

P.S. -- I thought was a californian website. lol I'm not hip on country codes...

November 29th, 2006, 09:19 PM
The way I found this place is actually really funny. My sister was googling my name, trying to find something embarrassing, and found some letter I'd written to a newspaper posted here.
A while later, when I was looking for a forum with Canadian info, I remember seeing

I really like this thread. I like reading how people found us.

When Dave and I started the site about 6-7 years ago, (wow time passes)
we had no idea it would blossom into such an amazing community. Although many people found because they entered through other pages on the main site, MANY people stumbled into the BB first, and stayed because of the great community... and great you are!:grouphug:

Thanks all - please keep adding to this thread.

I was searching on the web for advice on dog-to-dog aggression because my Toby was beginning to have issues. I got some great advice and moral support from :thumbs up I also got an EXCELLENT referral to a wonderful trainer in Ottawa who is really helping Toby a ton (Thank you PetFriendly!). He is making really good progress. :highfive:

I was just getting over (well to be honest, I am not really over it but I cope :) ) the death of my rabbit who I dearly loved. He was such a character. I'd be in sessions where we were discussing serious situations like bone marrow transplants and somehow I'd be talking about my rabbit's death to other docs. They were thoughtful enuf tho later one said she was worried about me for awhile. (My baby - who lived to be 13 had several heart attacks in my arms - he had been ill on a couple of occasions, given his age - the oldest bunny in the country at the time if one was to believe the Guinness Book of Record who claimed the oldest living domestic bunny was one in North bay, Ont who was 12). I had brought him to the Vet School to find a rabbit specialist and he had been better but in the days prior to his death, he had been somewhat lethargic and not that keen to eat and I was practically living at my vet's. (She has some experience with bunnies and he and I was lucky to have her but it is tough to find a rabbit specialist anywhere - not just the Maritimes. Maybe NYC.) She had given him an IV and I thought that with my own medical background, I could "doctor" him back to health as always. Alas, it was not to be and I wondered for a long time if I should have had him put to sleep the few hrs ago when we are at the vet's. A necropsy informed me nothing would have made any difference but I still grieve for him, sigh!

I had finally decided it was time to get another pet and I wanted a Siamese. I had done some work with Siamese Rescue but I hoped to find one in Canada. There was one in Mtl I almost adopted but he found a home closer (I even bought her an airline ticket! She was a so called special needs kitty since she had just one eye but pets tend to overcome these issues much better than us humans.).

I kept looking and one day visited a highly regarded breeder and did not plan to actually purchase a meezer that day but I you know when you see that tiny baby that is just meant for you and you for her. It turned out she was a Show Quality Seal Point Siamese and thus twice as expensive because it is assumed you have breeding rights and are going to participate in cat shows. Both her parents were Grand Champions and I am sure she would have been too. I, however, had her spayed as soon as I could - vowing not to put her through motherhood tho she prob would have enjoyed the show circuit. She is a very gregarious, curious, outgoing and friendly cat - friendly being the term most of my friends and family use to describe her. However, she is a certified therapy cat and thus gets to spend time with children in hospital or seniors. She has this knack of knowing of who needs special TLC. She utterly amazes me.

Later, a friend became ill and her living will had stipulated I become the caretaker of her two Sphynx cats should something happen to her. These were award winning show cats. She did die in the end and thus, I now have a menagerie of three wonderful girls. I would love a male blue point meezer to round things out tho.

But the search for a Siamese kitty was what brought me here. It seems so long ago now, lol YY runs the household and the Sphynx Girls seem like they have always lived with us.
