Last year I went through all the sources on BSL info I could find to compile a complete list of Canadian BSL, because I couldn't find one that listed everything.
I'm wondering if anyone has any additions at this time, as I'd like to keep it as up to date as possible.
P.E.I
- Montague has a ban on Pitbulls and Rottwiellers
Nova Scotia
-Guysborough County has a ban on Pitbulls and Rottwiellers
-Clark's Harbour banned Pitbulls in 1998 even though no such
dogs existed in the community.
New Brunswick
-recently passed legislation which allows individual
communities to pass BSL.
Quebec
-Sherbrook bans Pitbulls and restricts Rottweillers and Mastiffs.
-Saint-Jean-sur-Richilieu, Chapais, Chibougamau, Saint Genvieve,
Ville St.Laurent, Hampstead, Lachine, Kirkland and Outremount
all have Pitbull bans.
-Some Montreal boroughs restrict off leash time access to Pitbulls, Dobermans
and Rottweillers (although it is not enforced in the least).
Ontario
-Province wide ban. Pitbulls already in the province before the
ban was enacted must be muzzled and leashed in public. Anyone
traveling into Ontario will be prosecuted under the same law.
Manitoba
-Winnepeg and Macdonald have bans on Pitbulls.
-The Pas ban Pitbulls and dogs bearing physical resemblance
to Pitbulls.
Saskatchewan
-Village of Clavet does not allow Pitbulls within city limits
-Moosomin bans Rottweilers, Dobermans and Pitbulls
from being acquired after January 2004.
Alberta
-Edmonton has restrictions on Pitbulls, specifically any dog
determined to be primarily Staffordshire Bull Terrier or
American Staffordshire Terrier by a vet and cannot
be registered with the CKC must be leashed and muzzled in
public and must be covered by atleast $1million in liability
insurance.
-Brooks bans Mastiffs, Rottweillers and Rhodesian Ridgebacks.
Pitbulls and mixes are restricted and must be leashed and
muzzled when not inside an encloser on the owner's property.
British Columbia
- Nanaimo requires "vicious" be muzzled when in public,
and behind a barrier on the owner's property at all
times. Pitbulls or a cross of one of theses breeds
are "restricted" and automatically considered vicious
unless registered with the CKC.* Dogs that have passed
the AKC's Canine Good Citizen test are not
automatically restricted or considered "vicious".
However, the Canadian version of the CGC, the Canine
Good Neighbour test is not respected similarily.
-Coquitlam Pitbulls and crosses are required to be
leashed and muzzled when in public.
-Fort Nelson only allows Pitbulls which were residing in
the community prior to 1990 and they must be licensed
and muzzled and leashed when in public.
-Prince George requires Pibulls to be muzzled and
enclosed on the owner's property.
