Geriatric Vestibular Syndrome

It looks like the very healthy, very strong, very trim Abby, our Golden Retriever, has come down with Geriatric Vestibular Syndrome or Old Dog Vestibular Disease.

It came on yesterday and a trip to the vet yesterday led to this as a probable diagnosis. A dog belonging to the vet also had this at one point so she's very familiar with it.

Head tilted to the side, almost a "tick" or "twitch" out of a Red Skelton skit when she's walking, leaning her head to the right . . . . drooling quite a bit as well.

A link with a description below:

It doesn't appear to be getting any worse and, in fact, Abby and Keeper this morning leaped out of the door and chased away some deer in the early morning gloom, deer who were being corralled into a trap by some creeping bow hunters along our fence.

So, its not inhibiting her bent for adventure.

We're wondering if this was triggered by a rare and fairly mighty case of the hiccups the night before.

Abby is the healthy one, rarely having any ailment that isn't self-inflicted. She's eight years old this past summer.

Give her some good vibes!!! Hopefully this fades away in the next few days.

:sorry: to hear that Abby is a feeling under the weather--hope she has a quick recovery! :fingerscr It's always so much more comforting when the vet can give you info from personal experience like that.

Give Abby a hug from the Pack (they also send magical healing setter spittle  but, fortunately for you, it doesn't transport electronically very well! whew, eh?)

Please keep us posted on Abby's progress!
