First off I have to start by saying this.
Your cat should have been spayed. But the damage has been done.
Did you do any research about cats giving birth?Where you prepared for any complications?
Once she had the first, the others wouldn't be far behind.About 15 mins.
Cats usually have 4-6 kittens. And yes they can also have 1-2 kittens.
Did you feel her tummy when she was pregnant? Was there alot of movement going on?Did you take her to the vet to get her checked when she was pregnant.
The whole delivery takes 2 to 5 hours. But can last up to 12 hours.
Put your hand on her tummy to see if you feel any movement.

Yes, it's possible for a cat to have one kitten, but unusual unless the cat is a kitten herself. I've seen it happen exactly once, with a very young mother cat. HOw old is she?
If she is showing ANY signs of laboring, or acting distressed in any way, rush her to the vet.
And make an appointment at the same time to have her spayed.

thank you for the informative replies.....but please.
mona_b ...first off..i have to say this
..leave the personal crap about spaying to yourselves.....i dont need peoples personal crusades....answer the question or go to hell...
i came to ask an informative group a specialized question, not about your personal views of animal populations...if i wanted that i'd listen to bob barker
"Did you do any research about cats giving birth?Where you prepared for any complications?"
duhhh??? complications?? vets???
they're cats...funloving, yet disposable...they been giving birth for millions of years....if one or two dont make it....big deal...just dont wanna see it suffer is all, but like i said earlier.....the mother or kitten is not going through any external pain or discomfort
personally ive been through well over 15 different cat litters on the farm, with this never happening b4, so dont come off like im some 12 year old

Fun loving, yet dispososable?.If one or two don't make oh well???
That's a real nice comment to make about a family pet.
When you come on a site like this that is about rescuing and adopting and fostering, you better be prepared for comments you don't like.
You did not say my cats have had kittens before, but this has never happened before.
So I asked questions so I could help more.I did not treat you like a 12 year old.But I tell you, with that attitude and that mouth, makes me wonder.

"Disposable",honestly,you make me sick..
Vet? as if that is sooo foreign to you? What do you do if the cat is in trouble, watch it die? Shoot it?
and no,nobody here is crusading..just trying to help, mostly the animal in question, that's why this site is called Pets.ca...
I also realize farm-cats are not exactly pets, they have a different function, but by spaying you'll keep the unwanted, unloved cat-population down.15 litters? On an average that would mean about 60 cats,do you keep them all...or what? I shudder to think what happens to all these little creatures:mad:

Where do these people come from ...honestly?
February 26th, 2004, 09:10 AM
Oh my!!! Sounds to me like someone needs a kick in the ass!! Farm cat or not, it is still an animal and she may need help. If she's given birth before, she may be having complications. She does NOT deserve to die!! Informative answers - you'll get, but you'll also get attitude because we all love our pets and will NOT tolerate abuse or neglect to our family members! Mona was just trying to help - relax a little!!! For the cats sake, I hope you find your heart!! It might be under that haystack!

Where do these people come from ...honestly?
Sadly, "these people" seem to be in the majority, and are the reason why millions of cats and dogs are dying every year.
They lack the most basic sense of responsibility and really couldn't care less about the damage they are doing, and the innocent creatures they are causing to suffer.
Honestly, most 12 year olds are more compassionate and aware.:(
