lots of new folks here and new doggies (and kitties!) so... if you can find some "new" old photos of those babies, now's the time to show 'em off! :D (for those who have rescues, you can show your "first photos", it's the same!)

the first time we met dakotah, he was 5 weeks old, such a sweetie-bean!

We have no puppy pics of Macie--poor dear spent her puppyhood more or less alone in an outdoor kennel. Here's one of my earliest of her--she discovered the dog bed on top of the crates her first day here and, being a bit overwhelmed with the new surroundings, she stayed there for quite a while. She was a sad little waif back then...

Ok, back by popular demand, SUPER exclusive to this thread, NEVER before seen pics of Boo as a baby.:D

Ok, according to the SPCA, THIS is a 1 year old fully grown lab
(that's a 12 inch bone and it's longer than his leg...)

lol yes. He was a pretty doggy. Those pics were probably 4 or so months after we got him- his fur is so thick because it's all new. He had thin reddish fur when we got him, and it all fell out and grew back black. And in these pics, his cuts and wounds are gone too. :cloud9:

No kidding? Reddish fur? How peculiar... So if you can find a breed that starts out red and ends up black, you can maybe piece together a little more of Boo's ancestry... :thumbs up

thank you prin! totally gorgeous puppy :cloud9: i had no idea you got him so young though! thanks sooo much for posting those lovely pix! they came out very beautifully :highfive:

He grew a foot taller in the year or more after we got him. If he was a year when we got him, he stopped growing at around 3.

sorry but the shelter was full of crap! those growth plates are wide open in that last piccie, and no matter the breed, dogs are mostly done growing in height by the age of 12-14 months. they sloooowly gain a little bit until 1.5 to 2 years of age (for the giant tall breeds such as danes, deerhounds, etc) but can take years to fill out. 12 inches is a LOT of growth and rare are the breeds that grow that much after a year old

perhaps boo is younger than you think! :o

Prin
October 30th, 2006, 10:11 PM
How do you see the growth plates?

i had no idea you got him so young though! lol me neither! :D

No, we put him back to 6 months old at the time we got him. Makes him just over 5 now.

Prin
October 30th, 2006, 10:14 PM
Oh, one thing- the first thing- that got me suspicious (aside from his bear paws) was his head fur. He had puppy fur on his head. But his weight threw everybody off. In those pics, he was already 75lbs.

technodoll
October 30th, 2006, 10:18 PM
that would make sense, that he was 6 mths old and not 1 year old when you got him. :)

growth plates... those big bumps on the front of puppy's legs, above the feetsies! adults have smooth legs, no bumps... cuz the growth plates have closed :o
