Chewing off her fur!

October 29th, 2006, 10:21 PM
Cougar, my 12 year old female had her problematic anal glands removed 7 months ago. Because of the painful problem she would chew off all the fur at the base of her tail and around her anus. After the sutures healed and were removed I expected for her to stop the chewing but she hasn't! I know this is not healthy but I have no idea what to do about it. Any suggestions would be great.

It could be a habit now, or food allergies, or stress. It is hard to say for sure.

Could I use bitter apple spray or chili powder to get her to stop?

And spraying things on an open wound would sting like crazy... After that, you might not be able to inspect the area at all anymore (she won't let you).

She needs a vet to get to the root cause.

I agree....a trip to the vet is required.

BTW, what are you feeding her? :cat:
