does anyone have one of these? i ordered one for maika and hope it's as good as it sounds... but curious to hear about it first-hand! :)

looks like this:

Beta Biothane is PVC covered nylon. Looks and feels like leather.

Features:
Width: 1 inch
Very good resistance to scratches
Will not hold odors or stain
Does not absorb moisture
Stays flexible in any condition
Virtually indestructible
Easy to care for. Just wipe with a damp cloth to clean.

I haven't heard of this type of collar before, but it sounds great.
If good things are said about it, I would be interested in one as well. When you get it, and try it out, an update would be great!!!:thumbs up .
I am going to go and google it now :)

i will definitely post an update once we get it. i googled it too before placing the order and it seems used by gun dogs, hunting dogs, etc and perfect for what we need it for... her collar always gets wet from slobber and stinks, gets easily stained with mud, etc, and in the winter it just won't be practical anymore, plus we need a buckle-type for the beanies now, the martingale ones are too hard to get over their big heads all the time and it hurts their ears. sooo.... it seems pretty darn good, and it's really not expensive :thumbs up

That is the type the greyhound tracks use on the dogs, I have Maya's from the track

Here is one of the greyhound racing supply stores that carries them

OG, that site says "plastic dog collars"... not Biothane, which is pvc-coated nylon... am i missing something?

this has good info...

and www.gundogsonline.com/dog-collars/biothane-dog-collars/

Just a fancier name but the same thing have the webbing inside with a clear coating just like you are describing it is the same as the gun dog collars, the tracks have used this type of collar for years

oh, cool! thank you OG :)

so they stand up to their claims?... i was afraid they would easily rip... doesn't LOOK too solid, but... "virtually indestructible", they say! LOL

Origins was that it was created for standardbred racing, with the webbing inside it is not going to rip

WE LOVE IT!

the collar is everything it said it was, and more! it's so soft and easy to put on, looks great on maika, very chic! hubby was pretty pleased too, he was expecting it to be "plasticky" and tacky but no, it feels as nice as it looks, very solid too. yayy! :highfive:

i highly recommend this collar to anyone whose dog leads a "messy" lifestyle! :thumbs up

Looks great Techno. I am just trying to decide on the best colour. If I can get one in blue, I am going to get one. Thanks for the update :)

Wow, I think I'm going to get one too.
Currently my dogs wear waterproof hunting collars when they might get dirty, but those biothane ones look a lot better.

hmmm they have pink, black, white, orange, yellow... i don't see blue... also sold here, but neon orange only... http://www.gundogsonline.com/dog-collars/biothane-dog-collars/Biothane-Hunting-Dog-Collar.html

i'm sure blue and other colors are available somewhere! just have to do some research..

the collar is soft to the touch, almost "talcum powder" feel, but sooo tough and maleable, it's awesome. i will order more, surely! :highfive:

No blue :( . Hunter is all black, so I don't want black or white, he is a boy, so I don't want pink....
Maybe I'm too picky for this type of collar:p . If you find a place that sells blue can you let me know??? In the meantime, I will keep looking.:fingerscr

i love bright orange or yellow collars on all-black dogs, very flashy!

but here you go... a cobalt blue biothane collar (also comes in bright green!) :p also that one looks "ridged" and not smooth?

Dodger has a plastic coated hunting collar which is different from the biothane one's (look more like the one's OG posted). There is a different feel and look to plastic vs. biothane collars although they have the same purpose.
Dodger's hunting collar is the only one he has managed to keep for over a few months - the nylon one's got filthy/stinky OR he broke them in the field.

His collar doesn't stretch:)

That's the same material as the Grrrrl's "Smoochy-Poochy" leashes. They may be virtually indestructible but they aren't Ceili-indestructible ~ hers has toothmark gashes from her "tug-o-war" wars. I also found that the blue dye in the pvc coating came off on my tan leather gloves last winter. :yell: But overall I love the leash ~ they make collars too and they're Canuck-made.

I love Cider's princess collar.. but it's getting to the point where even soaking it in amaze doesn't make the grey looking collar become pink anymore

I want one of those in a hot colour.

Get the hot pink one like Maika's....it's sexy and will match Cider's tutu. :D

Looks good.Will it stretch

angeldogs, there is a "give" to this collar, ie when it's on a dog pulling on the leash, yes the collar will stretch a bit but it will snap right back once the pressure is off... only had it a few days but so far it has retained its original shape, and tonight in the rain and mud it wiped off sooo easily, it's like brand new! no stain on the dog's fur either... you could always order one, it cost me CDN $16 shipped to my mailbox, worth every penny :thumbs up

Think I would like one for puppy-boy, when he is a big boy. But, can they not be had with a quick release clip instead of a buckle? Because, won't the holes for the buckle eventually stretch and rip through? I have looked on-line and found two different greens that I think will look stunning on a Black Lab. But no quick clips.

hazelrunpack
January 25th, 2008, 09:23 PM
You mean like a parachute buckle, Longblades? We've tried the quick-release fasteners but in a big powerful dog like a lab, we experienced a high rate of failure--the plastic clip casing would crack and we'd get a sudden, unexpected release of dog...luckily never in a dangerous situation like when on a walk near heavy traffic, but scary nonetheless...

About the stretching--we have similar but non-Biothane collars that the holes stretch on, but we've never had one rip and release.

Not sure you'll get any of the earlier posters in the thread to come back and help you out--it's been more than a year since anyone's posted in this thread.
