New Food = New Problems

Well as I predicted, changing Dart's food has caused some GI backlash. We are currently feeding DVP venison and rice (I think its rice, for sure venison though). I have also tried DVP duck and sweet potatoe.

For the past 1+ weeks, to say Dart has had gas would be like saying the Pope is kind of religious.

The foul odours being omitted from my boy's butt could be consider a weapon of mass destruction! Also, he hasn't had a really solid poop in ages. :yuck:

Our living room smelt so much over the weekend that I was going to light some candles but thought he would blow us to kingdom come. :eek:

He gas is awful and I suspect he is having anal glad issues as he has started licking his butt occasionally at times more frequently other times. At first I suspected allergies but now I’m not sure.

I’m wondering if anyone has some suggestions on what I could try to solve our problem. Not sure if I need to switch food or perhaps provide a supplement.

I’ve called the vet for a visit as she needs to look at some other things but if anyone else has any ideas I would greatly appreciated them.

LOL I feel for you. Doggy gas is the worst.
I have been feeding the DVP foods for the past two weeks and neither dog has had any problems with gas or their poops.
If you have not noticed an improvement in the next few days/week it might be a good idea to do a food switch as it is obviously not agreeing with him.

Try adding about a 1/4 cup of probiotic yogourt and a heaping tablespoon of pumpkin to his meals for the next little bit. It may just be that his system is trying to purge. Poor you and poor Dart.

I was going to say the exact same thing. i had rosco on the DVP venison and he had gas as well. Since switching to Canidae lamb & Rice hes been fine. As well, his stools have become firmer and less volume.

one note, make sure its pure canned pumpkin, not the pie filling. There is a difference.

I also agree with the probiotic/pure pumpkin (not pie filling) tratment. Let us know how you make out. :fingerscr
