My cat is an indoor, 9 year old, neutered male Himalayan with all of his shots up to date.
For the past ten (10) days or so he has had an unusual sounding meow.
He seems fine other than that. He is eating and drinking as usual.
He is awake much more than usual.
We got a new kitten about 3 weeks ago. He is healthy and has had his first shots) I think this is why our older cat is awake more than usual.
He seems to enjoy running around after the kitten.
Could he be deliberately trying to sound different because the kitten sounds different than him?
I would appreciate any suggestions or advice that you may have.

Thank you,

Welcome to the board. I am not a cat person I have a dog but I know with dogs when you bring a younger dog in they seem to get a little more energy and like being the top dog. So I think maybe it is the same with cats and yours is letting what the young one can do and not do according to him. He is now the boss of him (a little ego boost for him)

I brought a kitten into our house in June and my 2 old girls are learning new tricks and meowing and vocalizing in ways I have never heard from them....

I would think that as long as their is no lethargy, or other symptoms that this is what is happening....

Congrats on the new kitten...kimmee
