Dog Clothes

October 2nd, 2006, 08:11 PM
Do yours have clothing.. and is it functional, or because you can? When I went to woofstock it was like June, hot as heck out, and many people had small dogs in outfits.. some cute, some not so much.. but some were like polar fleece with dogs panting their heads off.. Little too much..

Cider owns a hoodie and a sweater.. and the ex roomie made her boots. Someone pointed me towards a rocking site.. And I became one of *those* dog people.. I bought another hoodie, and a jogging suit.

My doggies only have outdoors stuff- muttluks, lifejacket, saddlebags, light up collars, x-back harnesses...

October 2nd, 2006, 08:16 PM
Nobody has doggie clothes, yet, but I did see the cutest Roots hoodie that I am gonna get for kita for xmas. :D

I have been looking for saddlebags for our hikes and icefishing excoursions but havent found any that are like i see in my head. Prolly just me though.

October 2nd, 2006, 08:19 PM
Layla has booties, an insulated rain coat, an insulated cordory coat, a winter coat, a california fleece shirt, a knit sweater and two teeshirts. It's all functional and intended for cold weather, except for the tees.

Yes ma'am! Especially with me, the Roots/Abercrombie queen:queen: :o
Oh, i wonder if Abercrombie makes doggie hoodies??

And sorry I lied, Meik has a Roots pet bandana

October 2nd, 2006, 08:30 PM
I think I saw roots doggie apparel before Cider was mine.. like 5 months oldish.. there was more than a hoodie.. it was all like 60 bucks and more even for like sizes that wouldn't have fit a puppy Cider..

I have a backpack for Cider (saddlebags) Found it at Princess Auto and it was the perfect fit.. total accident wasn't there for Cider, lol.

Jesse has a witch costume for Halloween. :o

October 2nd, 2006, 08:47 PM
Melei has a brightorange with reflective stipes rain coat, 2 hoodies, a fuzzy sweater, a knit poncho and about 6 tees. the origional intention is functional for the tees. she is a shop dog during the day with me and grease is hard to get out of her fur. But it certainly helps that the tees are really cute too :)

Dodger and Minnow both have attire... some functional and others not so much.
"Grandma's" a knitter so Dodger has 2 homemade knit winter jackets (I want the silly looking leg warmers too:o ), a slip-lead made of boa and the hiking, pulling and tracking gear. He also has a homemade "cooling coat", traffic vest/underbelly protector, a mini-pack (seen on service/therapy dogs) and of course muttluks and neopaws.
"Lucky" Minnow got Dodger's "Devil" shirt that no longer fit him and she also has homemade outfits - a little fabric vest and a knit jacket! I would consider Minnow's clothes more functional than Dodger's since she goes outside in the winter and needs protection!
I want to get Dodger a full body snowsuit because he freezes in the car during the winter - but he seems to prefer MY jacket:p.

I think we need pics!!!:D ( ( (

October 2nd, 2006, 09:25 PM
At first I thought Dodger was wearing an oversized housecoat ~ he looks like he is folding his arms ! Cute pix!

The Grrrl's have high performance boots and Ceili shares hers with Declan. They have flourescent, blinking leashes and a number of collars but that's the closest we get to clothes.

I think the funniest Man-Dog combination I have ever seen was in Riverdale. A refridgerator sized man in full leathers walking an eensy, teensy white Poo mix with little pink knit booties, a pink sweater and little pink bows in her hair.

Though I have seen Man-Dog combo's in the Gay Village which were "Separated at Birth" type outfits. Tiny terriers in motorcycle jackets and leather butt-less chaps just like their Daddies are one of things that makes me go Hmmmmm.....

October 2nd, 2006, 11:30 PM
Dodger reminds me of Jemma when she got hypothermia (almost) and I gave her my hoodie. It's funny how our upper body is the same as theirs.:D

October 3rd, 2006, 12:07 AM
Ummm.... yes, my dog has clothes, but only things that I made for him, and only from necessity--coats for the winter. I have a pattern and am going to make him a new coat; it has attached booties, which is exactly what he needs cause his booties always fall off and then his feet freeze.
He also has a lifejacket, and a lighted collar, but I don't really consider those "clothes".

I was actually flirting with the idea of getting him a Halloween costume. I want to get him a pirate costume, complete with peg leg and parrot on shoulder, since he can wear a patch and it won't affect his vision (the one benefit of a one-eyed dog), but I'm not having luck finding one I want, and none have a bird with them.

Here's the site I'm looking at:
My top 3 contenders are Yoda (omg!!), Batman (DOG29, not DOG07) & the Sheriff. I want Yoda for sure, but it's out of stock, so I have to wait. Very sad, Cube would be the cutest Yoda ever!!
Can't you just see his Yoda face?

October 3rd, 2006, 12:07 AM
Cute pic of Dodger. And it does look like he has his arms crossed. :D

October 3rd, 2006, 08:04 AM
Tucker has coats because he has to, he gets cold easily. I always try to buy coats that are bright and/or reflective. Basically so Tucker is seen when out walking in the dark, on nature trails, or in the yard... especially during hunting season. (also because he seems to blend in to our landscape, half the time I'm out in the yard screaming for him and he's standing in plain sight.... but blends into the surrounding foliage).

October 3rd, 2006, 11:39 AM
I tried to make Daisy wear some, after the first operation (lump on the back of the neck) I put one of her winter boot,(muttluck) back foot, so she wouldn't scratch herself and lend her my "GIRLS ROCK" t-shirt. Second operation ; back end :p she would scratch her bum on the carpet,so I lend her a very old pair of spandex shorts, she looked pretty sexy ! But it didn't last,I had do make a hole for the tail, about an hour later,I heard what sounded like fart/explosive diaria, but no,the shorts ripped open :D

October 3rd, 2006, 05:35 PM
haha..........dodger reminds me of the rap guy

October 4th, 2006, 08:26 AM
We're on a tight budget around here, so Trigs gets the older kids' too small clothes, the toughest looking ones we can, considering the older kids are girls. Dory has to use the babies old sweaters, which fit her well. We only use them when it's really really cold. I think some dogs need protection from the sun, but not all.

My daughter used to dress Dory up, but she looked so defeated and humiliated I asked her to stop.

I saw this really cute costume, it's spiderman, I want to get it for Trigs, but daddy said he would look silly. Who cares, it's sooo cute, and our son is wearing spiderman this year, so they would be like a team. I'm gonna keep buggin him for it. Dory doesn't get a costume, she'd be too afraid to go out in the dark with all the ghoulies.:o

Funny how much she resembles my first boss (I worked in a public library almost 40 years ago.) Wonder if she's a reincarnation of Louise Hackett?

October 4th, 2006, 06:01 PM
It's that frown isn't it? She's a non stop tail wagger.. but she needs to be doing something to give you 'happy' pictures.. Otherwise she gets her frown on..

October 4th, 2006, 06:27 PM
I don't see a frown,more a "what the f*** are you looking at?" :D

October 4th, 2006, 07:06 PM
HAHAHA. She's standing here now going.. Ummm Mom.. I'm hot.. It's HOT in the house.. WTF did you do..
Take it off!

October 4th, 2006, 07:21 PM
if i would bring Cider with me to work, with that face, people would think she's my dog! :p

October 4th, 2006, 07:28 PM
Oh yeah Mafiaprincess... Cider is DEFINITELY not a happy camper. I snagged this picture for Technodoll but maybe Cider needs a little super-bling to cheer her up...

October 4th, 2006, 07:35 PM
Even when she is a happy camper she doesn't look as happy go lucky as like your stereotypical happy lab..
Need to only take pics when she's playing fetch, doing agility.. romping in the park..

Aww Frenchy, Don't be telling me you make a grumpy pair, cause I don't believe that for a minute :D

I'd love to take her to work this winter, but I know her she'd be a pain in everyone's bum, though she might smile all day, haha.

Man, that's hardcore bling... Though I know someone who bought her chi a tiffany's necklace for a collar.. That's like 300 dollar bling, lol.

October 4th, 2006, 10:11 PM
Cider is so adorable in pink:love: I love that her frown naturally occurs because her fur is dark/light in just the right places!:pawprint: I want a pink hoodie for Minnow now!

October 7th, 2006, 10:59 PM
Though I do make my gangs clothes for function I believe in making them fashionable as well

Chinese silk coats, with a quilted silk lining for cool days
They also have their cold weather nylon and fleece coats with snoods
Fashion wear for parades collars for different seasons/events

October 7th, 2006, 11:04 PM
Gawd OG you are SO talented. I have dawg-clothes envy.

October 7th, 2006, 11:14 PM
So many talented people on! Wow,are the collars your creation too? They are so cool! :dog:

October 8th, 2006, 06:39 PM
Wow OG, what you've made for your crew is fantastic!! More pics!!

I want my doggie order to arrive already..

October 8th, 2006, 09:55 PM
Yes that is my dogs halloween collection that I made, last year
Right now I am taking a several month break from sewing as trying to run a small business that is labour intensive and still working fulltime and add in all the paperwork the goverment wants and demands can burn a person out pretty quickly, plus having a puppy in the house does mean I don't leave me much free time for running a business. So all sewing right now is either stuff for the house like valances as I am doing work around the house or making some items for my own gang, I have a few dogs bed that will be needed as the costco beds I have now have gotten pretty shabby looking.

More super-bling for your "Princess"
Sigh...can I have one of these for me ?

October 10th, 2006, 08:11 PM
OMG I love it!

October 10th, 2006, 08:42 PM
:o I knitted a sweater for Buster last year :o I don't have any pics of it though. He needs it in winter (he's got really short fur), he wears his sweater and his muttlucks when we go walking in winter, it's quite a sight!!

I'll post a pic someday...

Here's a picture of Buster in his summer attire. Can't you just tell how much he likes to get dressed up?!

Now I have Winnie in his PJ's
Clothing is definitely an necessity for him

jesse's mommy
October 11th, 2006, 06:26 PM
OG, Winnie is so adorable. You definitely need to start a Winnie thread devoted only to him. :D

October 12th, 2006, 12:17 AM
Ohhhh.... OntarioGreys, I'm in luuuuuuv ~ what big eyes he has ! Winnie is so photogenic ~ I agree , more pix pleez.

October 12th, 2006, 12:27 AM
I agree!!! Where's the "Winnie Pic Overload" thread?

October 12th, 2006, 01:09 PM
I agree too....he is just so adorably cute. :D

Would anyone know where I can find muttluks small enough to fit a 4 lb. yorky. I've tried pet stores & can find nothing small enough. Getting cold here.

I bought mine (not mine I mean the dog's :D ) at the vet. They should have any size.

October 15th, 2006, 01:36 PM
Poor Miss Maia. She was soooo cold at the farmer's market yesterday that we searched for the coat we bought her at the end of the year sales last year... well she didn't grow as much as we thought that she would! It totally is toooooo big. We'll have to find her something for winter. She's such a tiny little thing.
So to answer mp's question, our boxer has muttluks and will have a coat when I find one! Our lab x has no clothes :) he would bite them off if we tried, I'm sure, and never seems cold.

October 15th, 2006, 09:42 PM
Well there you go, ingenuity in the face of necessity. I just met up with one of the "regulars" in one of the richest neighbourhood in Toronto  ~ a homeless guy who has a doggy. Bullet is a shorthaired muttski and as the nights are getting pretty cold, "Steve" hit the Goodwill, bought a child's down-filled coat, shortening it where necessary and opening vents for ease of movement. I'm going to post on freecycle for a pair of muttluks for him.

October 15th, 2006, 10:12 PM
I hope someone gives Steve the break in life he deserves. :grouphug:

I don't know if the smallest muttluks will fit your doggy or not... A few of the good food places I know have them, but honestly, I got Jemma's in Ontario at the petsmart...:o

They also sell them in the store on this site, but you're going to have to ask Marko directly for the smallest sizes...

October 16th, 2006, 10:38 PM
Please don't hurt me, it's just a suggestion...
if you can't find real muttluks for your wee one you might try doll boots or McGyvering up something yourself with some leather, neoprene and velcro.

October 16th, 2006, 10:53 PM
Or just socks with elastic bandages to hold them up.
(better than nothing)

October 17th, 2006, 07:23 AM
Lady was buying baby socks at old navy the other day, and I was like hmm wonder if those would fit Ciders feet, haha.

Got my dog clothing order yesterday.. Not happy with it. So, Cider has more clothes but meh... No more buying online for me I guess..

Shirt I ordered.. Left side down a tad.. says juicy on it..

Shirt I got is crushed velvetyness rather than what is said and shown and I don't like it so much..

It's not really crappy or anything.. I just don't like it so much.. wasn't what I had ordered exactly... you know?

Ordered a jogger for her.. Measured her.. Custom made it.. It's way cute...

BUT... The bum end is too big... Her knees are coming out the crotch hole...

I had just pulled it up before the pic.. But you can sorta see the material above her knees... I can fix it by sewing some of the hole together, but boo.

So to get an order where both things have issues.. Makes me even more sketch about ordering online...

October 17th, 2006, 09:58 AM
I absolutely love the super girl one!!!:D She looks so sweet! I want to know if she will RUN in it!!!

We have to see the juicy girl on her too!!!!

October 17th, 2006, 12:42 PM
I love the super girl one and the last one of Cider wearing it. And she even seems impressed. :D

October 17th, 2006, 02:36 PM
Yeah she wasn't as grumpy eh, lol.

Back to grumpy wearing the shirt I'm meh over.. But I've taken liek 8 pics today so...

October 17th, 2006, 03:10 PM
From the look on her face, Cider would rather be "super girl" than "juicy girl". :D

October 17th, 2006, 03:26 PM
Would anyone know where I can find muttluks small enough to fit a 4 lb. yorky.

have you tried ebay? I just got muttluks for my dog on ebay... and WITH shipping I paid around $12. basically brand new too.

you can also buy them direct from the company:

and OMG, OG! MORE WINNIE PICS! the cuteness is overwhelming...

October 17th, 2006, 04:08 PM

October 17th, 2006, 05:12 PM
Hee hee....I think poor Cider's had enough already. :D When you said wig I wasn't expecting a helmet type one like that and that definitely would not work with her tutu.

October 17th, 2006, 05:16 PM
Yeah.. being my rubber wig it's not anatomically right for a dog.. lol.
