hello i just had a question, about omega 3 fatty acids. the vet told me to give it to the boys to spruce up their coats abit. I was just wondering is it really worth giving it to them (their on innova, so a quality food) and the capsules at the vet are $40 (which seems to be alot) is it ok to give them the one at local drug store or is there a different formula they make for dog?

I buy fish oil caps for the dogs at the pharmacy or health food store. I think the recommended dosage is 1000mg per 30lbs, but I would start with just 1000mg a day and then increase, to avoid loose stool.

everyone i know uses the human stuff (Ocean Fish Oil aka Omega 3 capsules, 1000mg). I just bought a bottle at Walmart, 180 capsules for $12.37, came with a bonus 60-capsule bottle. Good until 2008. if it's good enough for me, it's good enough for my dog! :thumbs up

I've often wondered if anyone actually buys the capsules from the vet when they charge such an outrageous price for them. One of these days I'm going to check the bottles for expiry dates as I'm sure they would be well past them. :D

no need to spend that much, go to the health food store, it usually costs about 10 bucks for a bottle.

Fish oil would have other stuff in it too that would be helpful too.
